I just want to win with class. If the shove was called for, hey i'm all for it. But it wasn't. It was completely unprovoked, and there's no place in the game for that.
A little smack talk is one thing. Shoving someone in full view of the officials in front of the opposing bench is not "hoya paranoia".
It's stupid and immature.

Ewing made a stupid mistake, to bump Alexander after play stopped (reminded me of the Wesley Wilson punch at 'cuse a few years back). Ewing should apologize for his cheap shot on Alexander.
But Bee Line can never put a hand on one of our players. As a coach and a grown man, he needs to see that Ewing is walking away, didn't hurt anyone, and the situation was over.
I obsessed on this in the chat room, and forced a couple people to use the ignore button (sorry for that, and I hate being in the realm of eightieshoya). Bee Line and Ewing both lost control, but the diference is Bee Line is a grown man and Ewing is becoming a man.

Look, he gave the guy a bump after he undercut jwall for no good reason... it was going to be a wvu ball for christ sake. Look, it's not like he coldcocked the guy. Was it wrong? Yes. Should he have gotten a T. Yup. But I've seen far worse get far less a response (elbows, missed punches) from the ref. He lost a little control but I don't think it's as big a deal as you're making it Pope, and I'm pretty sure the staff will talk to him about it.

gotta go with jjl and daytona...our team is defined by their understated class and that is what i love about them...i am all for aggressiveness and a mean streak on the boards and in the style of play, but shoving a forearm into an opponent's chest in front of the coach and bench is just plain stupid...he needs to pick his spots.

Dear PEII, Its great to have you on the team. We all admire the hustle and energy you bring as well as your good 3 point shooting. However, I must say that many of us in HoyaNation are very concerned with your lack of emotional control. The Hoyas are a very classy team, but your outbursts are completely out of synch and unnecessary. In addition to reach-in fouls, I have seen you throw elbows, bump people, and now, slap the hand of the opposing coach (even though he should not have touched you). PEII, I ask that you really think about this and know that your emotions can be both a good and a bad thing for the team. When they result in silly fouls and when they create a ruckus and make us completely lose our momentum, those are bad results. It is important that you control your emotions so that they dont hurt the team. I hope that it doesnt come back to haunt the team and ask that you address the issue now before you do something you will regret. Those kinds of outbursts make you look silly and make people feel embarassed for you. Develop grace in the face of pressure and see that it is a sign of strength when you control your anger. It is not a sign of weakness when you lash out. Keep up the good work and good luck in the Tourney. So many more of us are glad you stuck up for a smaller teammate, and also didn't do anything very nasty. Those little walk-by message bumps show some toughness, something opponents must be reminded of once in awhile. Some fans might think it might look silly, but many others think it's ok, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. We were embarrassed for the usually classy West Virginia coach, who felt it necessary to approach after very slight contact with one of his players, instead of going to a ref. IWe appreciate the spark you bring to the team, and remember, it's not a sign of weakness to show emotion once in awhile. Great win, Hoyas!

Pope, get off the high horse. From here on out it's simple: fall/jump (it was a combination of the two) on the Alabama Rainmaker, Jonathan Wallace, and Patrick Ewing (Jr.) will make you regret it. That is good for this team.
Also, what gives you the idea that Ewing would do this in any game? All year he's been emotional, but all year he has been emotionally in control. At times he gets a little out of control by going a million miles an hour, give or take a few miles per hour, on the court, but that's it. Your criticism is unfounded and ridiculous. Then again, so was your prediction that we would lose to Notre Dame.

its just a little push. he told alexander nice game. I think Ewing might have taken offense to Alexander taking out Wallace. Dumb play? Maybe. Good hustle? You might say that. But I can't say I didn't think that Alexander might be taking out some frustration by diving at Wallace's legs when if he stays standing it's a backcourt violation. I don't believe Alexander's that stupid honestly. Go Pat.

I went to school at GU in the 80s, was there for all the Hoya Paranoia at its height.
JT III is building a very classy program with a style of play that basketball purists love and opposing fans respect; the Lousville boards were all complimentary of what a class group of players GU has.
The Ewing move was a cheap shot. Beilein looked silly, but if an opposing player had swiped up against a GU player while they were talking to JT III this board would erupt, as would the fans. If it had been a hard foul or something I might appreciate it a bit, but it just looked like a cheap shot.
I was disappointed to see it, and hope the whole thing goes away. I think it will.

I do agree that no coach should ever touch a player. And JTIII had every right to be incensed after that. But here's my question:
Where were the officials?

A cheap shot is a punch or elbow, Ewing did nothing of the sort. The play by Alexader was a dirty and dangerous, could have ended the season of our best guard. PEII can play on my team any day, I know he's got my back.
True Hoya Paranoia.

Say what you want but you MUST protect your point guard, just like you MUST protect your quarterback in football. Alexander took a cheapshot at JWall, undercutting his legs when it was going to either go out of bounds or be a back court, PE2 has to protect his man there...absolutely the right move without crossing line like throwing a punch or something that would have gotten him thrown out...just a little reminder that you don't mess. I didn't see anything wrong with it and I applaud it.

ANNDDD ONNEEE!!! lol ... I love ewing's energy. He just made a bad decision there, cut him some slack.
On a side note Mr. Sapp is starting to worry me with the over abundance of turnovers, seems a little lackadasical at times. But I love the penetration. Hope he keeps improving (and staying away from shot clock ending shots) and we'll be great next year. Hell, we could go 10!!! deep like the Heels.
Oh and just a note Heels = 6 Mickey D's on current roster Dookies = 6 Mickey D's on current roster hmmm... could it b that coach K has lost his touch or maybe Paulus and the greatest passing big man in the history of college are over rated (who just so happen to make two errant passes at the end of critical games). hahaha i'm done. Goodnight

ep,
I feel you and understand where you're coming from, but you can't do it in plain view of everyone, and you can't do it in front of the opposing bench.
It's like a police sweep. You don't do something when things are "hot".....you do it when things calm down, when nobodies looking. Then you send the message.

Man, this pope really is a man peace, huh?
I am not condoning Pat for bumping the dude right as he was talking to his coach, but I am not going to condemn him either. He obviously was protecting Wallace and felt that Alexander's dive was a bit uncalled for (otherwise he wouldn;t have done anything). Sure, it deserved a T, but it was really nothing flagrant. Just sent a little message, that's all.
Beilein's reaction was wrong, but that's what is was -- a reaction. He was protecting his player, and you could tell he knew he made a mistake. No blood, no foul.
