Currently we have averaged 9,264/ game at Verizon. We also have our 3 biggest attendance games still left to play(all are Saturday games) and a Monday game with WVU.
Conservatively if we get:
Marq = 17K Pitt = 16k Conn = 15k WVU = 9
Then we'll avg. 10,593/game at Verizon and that is without a big draw out of conference game and no Syracuse. I thought we would do better but still not bad.

Pitt travels pretty well too. There were a ton of Pitt fans at the game last year, on Super Bowl Sunday, with the Steelers in the Super Bowl. I think that crowd should match or surpass the draw for Marquette.

Yeah WVU fans come out to this game in big numbers. I would be shocked if we had anything under 13K for that game. I expect the top rows will be open with lots of navy blue and gold in them.

Two Hoya alums tried to get tickets for Marquette. The best they could do at the box office was $5 nosebleeds.
So, the assumption was that the problem was that they were looking for two tickets together. So they asked for separate seating.
The best available was $5 tickets.
Putting MU at 17K seems a little low.

We'll be fine- we have a bunch more tix sold than attendees thus far. My guess is we'll end up in the 11k range with no real great home draws.
BBall dept has to do better to get us a good home sched.

The other drag on home attendance is the fact that we played two (rather than one) game in McD this year.

If we beat SJU and L'ville and Marquette beats PC and RU at home, there will be a temendous buzz around that 2/10 game (with the 100 year celebration adding to it). I would not at all be surprised if that game completely sells out. That will be fun.

"Lotsa hillbillies come out for that one, even on a monday."
Why is it that so many people feel free to insult people from West Virginia but the same people would call you a racist if you poked fun at someone of color? And I'm not singling you out, DoubleHoya. It's a commonplace thing on this board. How many comments on buck-teeth or marrying cousins and the like have there been posted here? Not classy, to say the least.

On the WVU stuff:
First, let's not try comparing the insults to racism. Dumb idea. It's not even in the same county. Nor the same state. Nor the same planet. Nor the same galaxy.
Second, WVU revels in having a more rural atmosphere. Their mascot has a coonskin cap and a rifle and their unofficial anthem refers to "mountain mama".
Third, the really horrible insults occur at the expense of Rutgers and Seton Hall, both of which are located in New Jersey. Both of these schools consistently educate fine young men and women, very few of whom go on to work directly for the mafia.
In summary - this is a message board. It's, to paraphrase Star Wars, a wretched hive of people who have nothing better to do than whine about RPI rankings of the Big Sky and whose hearts start thumping irregularly when certain people's ACLs start acting up. It is, to a degree, a place where we can cast off what we do for a living and mock a coworker - a coworker who is intelligent and as hardworking as we are - just because she attended a different school with similar admissions standards. As long as people realize this, it's fine to make jokes about why Syracuse football fans love early-season road trips to West Virginia (1).

Speaking of WVU, I enjoy the gusto of their fans. I don't mind if they park their trailers in the annals of Verizon crowding it to capacity, nor the din of 15,000 banjos/jug/washboard wielding yokels. Just as long as we win. And as long it is not at our expense, I will always wish them the best of luck.
There are only 2 teams that get the "Meteor" treatment from hoyaclap...Syracuse and Maryland.

This just in: Barbaro's carcass has been shipped to West Virginia for some good ole Morgantown Stew...mmmmm-MMMMM! ...too soon? In an effort to rival hifi in story telling ability, Nah, you wouldn't want the simple folk eatin up all that nice horsey, horse is reserved for the governa himself. I herd that fellah who won that fancy lotto game from WV a couple years ago put in a bid for the delikasy, AND using a computor to do it too, but unfortionatly Barbaro's owner doesn't take money that circulated through every stripper bars in WV, youh know, the ones where the girlies take off their clothes and do a nudie dance. My cousin/girlfriend, who works at the classiest joint this side of Morgantown, said that he comes in every day...

This thread has taken a wild detour away from anything remotely resembling attendance figures (For the record, I think Marquette will be a sellout and UConn will draw more than 15K.)
That said, RIP Barbaro. I think his passing could be eloquently marked by a quote or two from new Hoyatalk member Alberto Gonzales.

I like seeing the high attendance numbers, but it does bother me when the opposing teams fans make make up a significant proportion of the crowd. Having been a freshman in the last year of the Esh Era, I have seen the worst of it, when the response for Gerry MacNamara's game winning three was much louder that for Courtland Freeman's game tying layup just a moment earlier. But I guess until we develop a large local fan base, thats gonna be the case, albeit less so than before. Here's to hoping Muir knows how to advertise!

Barbaro's not dead yet... he just had surgery to put pins in the leg, but he's still kicking (as it were).
That said, I'm all for preserving the life of a valuable animal, but that horse lives better than most people in this world...
