I didnt see anything official posted yet... Thornton transfers to Towsonwww.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061214/SPORTS/612140336/1002/SPORTSFormer Caesar Rodney High all-state basketball player Josh Thornton is transferring from Georgetown University to Towson, he said.
The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 1.7 points and 0.5 rebounds in six games as a Georgetown freshman last year. He had announced in October that he would transfer and has not played for the Hoyas this season.
"Everyone knows Georgetown is an excellent school, academically and athletically," Thornton said. "The decision I had to make was more of a personal decision. Where would I fit best athletically?
"Towson plays more of an up-tempo offense. Not only do I like the way they play, but they also have a great coach [Pat Kennedy] who can put guards in the NBA."
He'll become eligible in December of 2007 to play at Towson...

This will make our Dec. 20 game with Towson a little more interesting. I assume we have a return date with Towson next year? Wouldn't Thornton be able to play then, since he's not playing this year?

Talk about needing to adjust someone's views. Put guards in the NBA??? Not saying it is impossible, but come on.
The best story I ever heard in this regard was when JTII, Morgan Wooten & others had a round table. Wooten told the story of a kid whose parents were with him when he had to cut him from the freshman squad. In a straight face, his mother asked if this would negatively effect his shot of making it to the NBA? This was a high school freshman who couldn't make the Dematha freshman squad. People are insane.

Farewell Dagger. We hardly knew ye. Can we count on you sporting a black arm-band in the daggers honor for the rest of the season?

What's the expression? Hope springs eternal.... Josh merely said Kennedy can put guards in the NBA. We can infer Thornton's thinking about himself and, frankly, I don't have a problem with that. He's got three seasons to develop his game before entering the NBA draft. If that's an aspiration of his, go for it, bro! He sure wasn't going to make it sitting on the Hoyas' bench. BTW, wasn't Michael Jordan once cut from his high school team? And, Aggy, that's the same Pat Kennedy who coached at FSU, DePaul and Iona.

lets hope he doesn't light it up against us next year. I wish him all the success in the world outside of when we play him next year.

Unlike certain people (*cough* 007 *cough*) even the stuff I wear while PLAYING basketball is school colors. I will be sporting a gray wristband in his honor.

But he sure put on a show when he came to Jacksonville's gym in '81... Thanks for the info on P.K....

This will make our Dec. 20 game with Towson a little more interesting. No it won't. Nothing could make that game interesting.

BTW, wasn't Michael Jordan once cut from his high school team? Jordan was cut from varsity his soph. year and dominated on JV. Too many people say "he got cut from his HS team" without context, usually to make scrubs feel better, which makes it seem like there was a point at which Jordan's potential was in question or something. I'll bet he didn't get cut from any freshman team his freshman year. This program just hasn't been right for JT. I feel like in our system where the game moves a little slower, there's so little margin for error that guys don't have as much time to build confidence as shooters in game situations, and that might be what he needs. A more uptempo style could help him out, and I certainly hope he lands on his feet.

He helped Charlie Ward make it. His team is also the reason we didnt get to see Zo vs. Shaq in the NCAA tourney due to FSU knocking us out of the 92 touney.

My only point, really, with respect to Jordan is that despite his being cut he continued to work on his game -- and didn't rest until eventually he was the absolute best the game had to offer. I don't know what Thornton's ceiling is, but if he can realize more of his potential over the next few years, why isn't it possible he could be an NBAer?

Right - MJ's potential wasn't in question but he was never LeBron in HS either. He never had anyone patting him on the back until '91 - he worked at it his whole career.
I'm not calling JT a scrub or limiting him in any way - I'm just saying that we haven't seen him in an environment where he can begin to approach his potential. I hope Towson is that environment for him.

Jordan wasn't Lebron, but he was pretty darn good. There were many folks in my area that would follow the Bucs around the Mid-Eastern 4A Conference just to watch him play. He also had plenty of competition. Laney was the 2nd best school in the city of Wilmington. The city school, New Hanover, was a BEAST!!! Our school routinely loss by 40 to several schools in the conference...but they all knew that football season was coming...
