A side story to the #33 thing is that GU may be able to print next year's jersey with "Ewing" on the back with the number and argue that it is a promotion of a PE1 jersey in the current style. If I am not mistaken, it is illegal for schools to market jerseys with the players' names on the back, but this father/son thing might just exploit a loophole.

I'm willing to bet next year's jersey is #32 or #55. If Nike wanted to market a #33 Ewing jersey, they could do that whether or not Pat, Jr. is at the school.

I'm hoping they'll do 32, 55, and 2. It is time that Wallace gets some of the recognition he deserves in the broader community. I think it is a good idea to get a few jersey numbers in circulation. It grows tired when you see 5 different iterations of the 32 jersey.

It grows tired when you see 5 different iterations of the 32 jersey. It's called extending the life of your jersey. Every time we go Back in Black, that old-school Gerald Riley jersey gets 365 days added on to its life. And let's not see a #2 jersey. I like Jon Wallace too much and don't wanna let the secret out! Keep the fan base small and fiercely loyal...I dunno what I'd do if J-Wall went "corporate".

I hope they make a Jon jersey as well. I definitely think Roy will be the primary jersey this year though, as Jeff was last year. Last year Jeff's jersey was featured, but there were some #1s floating around too. I'd be happy if that was how this year went, with 55 being the featured jersey (deservedly so) but some #2s in circulation as well.
BTW for those suggesting Ewing wear #8, I'm pretty sure that's not allowed, only numbers with digits from 0-5. I definitely think 33 was best for him. Anyone else wearing it would definitely raise some eyebrows, as it did when the word was spread that Roy was going to wear it a few years back (before he changed it up to 55, perhaps due to the flack he caught for choosing that). Pat jr. is one of the few people who can wear 33 proudly and not be questioned or scrutinized by fans (or at least, he shouldn't be, in my opinion). It's simultaneously a sign of respect and a sign of PE2 welcoming comparison to his old man, and thus challenging himself to play on or near that level.

There were some Wallace jerseys on sale at MCI/Verizon last year in the Modell's, along with Bowman jerseys.
Now, there needs to be some Roy jerseys, and, some gray jerseys. I WANT A GRAY 55 JERSEY!

The #2 jersey exists its just hard to find due I'm sure to high demand given Wallace's POTUS campaign.

You've seen a #2 jersey in the Navy? Because if it is the old colors, I'm pretty sure those are just old Courtland Freeman jerseys.

Ugh. I hate all those numbers. Ewing DEFINITELY should not be #33. Jeremiah has #10 written all over him. Macklin should be #44. Summers is more of #24. The only single-digit man of the bunch is Ewing, who should've stuck with the 8. I hope the end of this post was a joke. 8 is not a legal jersey # in NCAA basketball. Also, KG was reference earlier, but DaJuan resembles him MUCH MORE than our Big Ticket. I go with Vernon as a 44, and Summers as a 21. Rivers could be any single digit, including 0. Jr. DEFINITELY deserves 33. Seeing as Jr. is not a Freshman, the 3 Freshman #'s add up to 9. There could be a marketing campaign in 2 years that says 1+3+5= '09 National Champions. This theory is, of course, only applicable in 2 years, and I am BY NO MEANS saying we can't win a Championship before or after that season.

Does anyone think these kids ought to be able to pick their own numbers for what it means to them? Maybe it's their "lucky" number. Maybe it's a favorite pro. Maybe it's a former Hoya. Maybe it's their birthday for pete's sake. Whatever the heck it is... it's theirs. They should choose it.

i don't understand why they have a rule about what number a kid can wear why can't they just use the numbers 0-9? why are 6-9 being discriminated against.

Ummmm, because the officials only have five fingers.
To signal a foul, how would you differentiate between nine and 45? You only have two hands.

NBA refs seem to be able to do it. They have crazy numbers in that league.

Of course they should get to pick their own numbers. That doesn't mean it's not a valid topic to discuss in August right after they've been announced.
