This poll just shows that coaches don't pay any attention. Any coach that has L'Ville over G-Town after this weekend should have their vote taken away. Tenn deserves it, but L'Ville and Cuse do not. Oh well.

That is still from last week. The AP comes out later in the afternoon.
The Polls are a joke...oh well...great win.

TBird, I think that poll was only updated with records. They did not change the ranking itself from last week.

Huh. That would explain it. The page said it was updated at 6am this morning.

Not disappointed, although Louisville and 'Cuse should definitely be out of there. UNC is hanging on by the skin of their teeth.
All this means is that this snub will make our players even hungrier for two wins this week for eventual ranking validation. Interested to hear if the AP poll will be any different.

I really believe we have a better chance in the AP. The coaches poll is always a joke with PR people doing the voting for most of the coaches. They love the big names and do no real analysis. Coaches are too busy doing work to pay attention to other games.
At least people in the AP seem to watch more games...we'll see later today.

I think that's about right.
This week is when we find out if we're top-25 (or top-15, if you believe Kornheiser).

I am not going to pretend to be an expert on these polls or many of the teams ranked ahead of us but... Quick someone give me a rational argument on what Louisville or Syracuse has done to warrant a top 25 ranking? Oh wait thats right nothing. And I know the transitive property doesn't work in college basketball but still I am going to have to point it out... Maryland loses to Duke embarrasingly bad and we beat Duke therefore Maryland is 8 spots better than us?? oh and please dont even get me started on Wisconsin, if we lose to Stetson you wouldn't see me arguing we are one of the best teams in the nation!

Syracuse/Pitt tonight is a big threshold game for both teams. Pitt should fall five places if they lose because they would have lost two games to teams that haven't had outstanding seasons. If SU loses, they do not deserve to be ranked in any poll and should begin to fall out of bracket predictions, like Louisville.

SoCal ... forget the transitive property ... Maryland does not belong in the top 20 based on any sort of criteria ...
A loss to Vandy is the same thing as a loss to Miami and what is their quality win -- Boston College? Oooh. Boston College. Look out everyone, it's Boston College. Make way for Boston College. If BC stayed in the Big East, they'd be the 10th best team.
Quite simply, Maryland is a sweaty, overrated team. If they played Syracuse, I am convinced that nobody would win.
I'm not hating on Louisville, though it does seem very stylish to do so. With Taquan Dean (who I believe I voted for as GUSA president one year) healthy, this is still a top 15 team and one of the four best in the Big East.
Also, is that a typo, or did St. John's just beat 2 ranked teams (including an undefeated) and receive NO votes? If they had a campus, it would be burning right now. What are they, 10-6? If you're 2-14 and you beat 2 ranked teams in a week, you should at least get 1 vote. 1 vote!

Great post IlladelpHoya! Made me LOL. Wisconsin is the shocker to me. How a team can lose to North Dakota State, need two OTs to beat Eastern Kentucky, and still be in the top 25 is beyond me. They have lost to every good team they have played - Wake, Ohio State, Pitt - save their victory against Michigan State. As I've said before Gary Williams and Jim Boeheim both vote in the Coaches Poll and I think there may be some trading going...

The St. John's thing is amazing as well. The AP got it right with them getting 9 votes. It's supposed to be how a team is playing at this time and they are pretty hot.
I now officially do not recognize the Coaches Poll as legitimate...
