I was happy with the offciating for much of the game, but down the stretch, it did seem that Duke, and Reddick in particular was getting more of the calls. I could say that the Hoya defenders were getting tired and making more contact, but then they should have been calling the reach-ins that the Dukies were commtting on EVERY in bounds play.
Still, the right team won, and complaining about the refs seems too much of a Beoheim thing to do.

Just finished watching the DVR replay of the game (not aided at all by my DVR's sudden spastic problems but that's a separate issue). I thought Packer was pretty good overall. He was fair and dished out praise where it was deserved on both sides. Verne Lundquist has never been one of my favorite play by play guys, he did little to change that opinion in this game.
As for the refs, they were acceptable. They didn't miss much, although I have to agree with others that after watching him in person, Redick gets away with an awful lot of off-arm pushing off and chicken-wing arm hooking to get around guys. None of that was called on him yesterday and several of those were called as fouls on Hoya defenders. More power to him: if they are going to allow him to do that to create space why not do it? That offensive push off foul on Cook late in the game was a Duke flop, nothing more. Cook, however, extended his arm which made it easy for the ref to call.

I saw the same thing at the game and was absolutely livid in the second half (when Duke was shooting towards the basket near me) when Redick got away with at least 3 "hooks" while driving to the basket and the call went against us. Considering this helped them get into the bonus so early, it was a huge factor in their ability to get back into the game. Haven't heard the game on CBS yet, so I can't make a judgment about Packer. I can say though that I did cuss a bit at him prior to tip-off .

I liked the fact that Packer pointed out that Owens, Cook and Bowman were on the team that lost by 24 to Duke two years ago. Billy's early point about Duke players getting the sense they were playing a team that thought they could beat them added to the drama of the game.
