Peavy could be your small ball 4 and Sorber or Fielder could be traditional forward when the match-up requires.

The best thing about Peavy is that he’s a really good defender. The second best thing is his versatility. I think hes most naturally a 3, but can easily slide up to 2 or down to 4. Gives us a lot of flexibility as we see how the rest of the roster comes together and how quickly some of the young guys are ready to contribute. I also like the fact that there was no real pre-existing connection to him. He’s not a DMV guy transferring home or a guy who had ties to our staff when they were at PC. We just identified a major need (perimeter defense) and went out and found someone who could help. The fact that we beat some good competition probably speaks well to our NIL offering too. This. Also brings up an interesting consideration re NIL for a program like Georgetown … until the program starts sniffing the top 25 / NCAAT again, does taking a swing at a star player (top 10) even make sense? If the NIL bag is even close to what’s rumored, are you better off “overpaying” for lesser talent pieces with the idea that 1) assuming they’re transfers, they’re only around for a year or 2 so the NIL isn’t tied up for long and 2) maybe they’ll work harder (mindset of earning the NIL)?

Feel like a lot of folks are over-thinking this. It's a very good get. Helps our weakest area which is defense, and adds some experience. Does it turn us into a contender? No. But it move us in the right direction. Be happy for one day.

Some fun facts about our new commit (trying to get more positive vibes in here people):
He registered the third triple-double in TCU history with 13 pts 12 rbs 10 assists against Arizona state, a double-double against Houston 13 pts 11 rbs, and had 3 or more steals in 5 games.

For those that have wanted a Defensive stopper... This stretch of defense by Peavy is ridiculous. His effort and effectiveness in shutting down the three point line and slipping screens like water is crazy. Adding to our roster with great defensive players is so encouraging.

Additionally, I believe his active and aggressive defensive intensity may be contagious leading to overall better team defense by a defensive leader.

One of the things we've been lacking sorely for years is defensive versatility. The better teams will repeatedly run offensive actions to force switches and create favorable matchups that they can attack, and this has killed us in recent years. Looking for Peavy to be the beginning of shoring up this team-wide weakness, which was arguably the worst of all our problems last year. I think he's capable.
The shooting numbers aren't great and YT has some great videos of spots where he excels and where he doesn't, but it's on him to keep improving his shot as it looks like he's done every year at the collegiate level. And just as important, if he can provide plus rebounding for his position at the defensive end, that would be a big help. Had too many guys last year who were allergic to rebounding on the defensive end, which is why we never could string together stops.
Like the add overall.

Agree. He makes this team better defensively and will help set a tone that others can follow. He is also strong in transition both offensive and defensively. We could totally use that.

Peavy could be your small ball 4 and Sorber or Fielder could be traditional forward when the match-up requires. Peavy seems to have only played guard and occasional wing on offense and defense and plays them insanely well on defense. He picks up the best scorer and really alters their game. TCU didn't have another guard wing who was nearly as solid on defense, so if a team has a few good scorers Peavy only can cover one.

Additionally, I believe his active and aggressive defensive intensity may be contagious leading to overall better team defense by a defensive leader. Peavy igniting defense will be really good and he sees the court incredibly well on offense to pass and keep good things happening. If / when Mack is added that is a defensive upgrade at point over Epps and a couple of the freshmen when their game adjusts to D1 and BE play will be improvements over last year defensively. Caleb having Peavy on the team is like having a defensive roadmap for Caleb and that could help a ton. Peavy sharing what he knows and guiding the young guys makes his addition even better and longer lasting. I haven't seen McKenna play since about a year ago in the summer (I was watching Glen Elg as I knew one of the guards well and wanted to see him play) and McKenna can score and really caught my eye on the offensive end, but I was paying more attention to the guard on defense to see if he still was solid on that end. Peavy's defense and approach to the whole game should have a solid upside with McKenna as well.

Credit to Cooley: Peavey had offers from Houston, K State, Kansas and Creighton. Getting this kid from Texas is quite a coup and does send a message. The timing of Peavey's commitment was also well done ( if controlled by EC ). Mack cancelled his UVa visit the same day. Lets hope that portends what all the prognosticators think it does

I wrote the above before I had heard about Styles. Yes credit to Cooley for sure re Peavey....but at the loss of Styles? I am befuddled. IMHO, Styles in a functional team offense would and will be outstanding. And in any kind of D, he would be damn good. We already know that he is a warrior- every game damn near 40 minutes. Last years debacle wasn't all on the players.

Last years debacle wasn't all on the players. I was willing to have Styles come off the bench for McKenna to be honest. Too many games in which he didn’t assert himself on offense when the team needed it. Can’t blame all of that on Jayden. Styles was a good player and seemed like a cool guy. But team needed more on both ends from him. Give him kudos for his rebounding though.

Peavy and Mulready will be better defenders than anyone we had on last year's team. Add Sorber in the paint and we will be significantly better.

I am sure you are right about Peavey and I hope you are right about Mulready and Sorber. The D had to be addressed, but who is going to score. Eppsball? he may leave if Mack comes in. Where is the Offense coming from? We all expect Fielder to take a step up, but still. EC must have a plan?

Epps is well aware that we have been on the lookout for a more traditional PG and he will update be our scoring guard. We tried it last year but Rowan and Heath didn’t quite fit the bill. Believe me, Epps wants a studly backcourt partner.
