Got anything else from maybe the Weekly World News or Screw Magazine that you want to post as evidence?

The words are unfortunate but if he and the kid were both laughing it is mostly a nothing burger in my opinion.

I haven't been able to post as much, but was actually able to sit down and watch the full 2nd half: - This team just isn't quite capable of making enough consecutive winning plays. Prime example: right around the under 8min timeout. Heath just hit a 3 in the corner off great ball movement / offensive set where we made the extra pass to cut lead to 4. Cooley's matchup zone is working and gets another stop, SH is like 1 for their last 10. We come down...an offensive set with zero passes, one ball screen, and an Epps step back three with plenty of time on the clock. Clangs out of bounds. After the tv timeout, Richmond blows by his man, Heath gets beat backdoor ball watching, Styles is late on help and it's an and-1 to put it back to 7. To me that's just a microcosm, there's stretches where it's not awful, you see ball movement, you see Cooley trying to coax something / anything out of the defense. And then it all falls apart
- I'll admit it's a bit of a cruel joke that the main things the board structurally harped on during the Ewing era have been reversed and the results are identical. Offensive Ewing complaint: not taking enough 3s and playing too much through the post. Last night we shoot 40(!) 3s, on the season our 3-point attempt rate is 67th in the country. Doesnt matter because our turnover rate is uncomfortably high, 11% of our shots get blocked and we can't make 2s. Defensive Ewing complaint: hemorrhaging wide open 3s. Now our defensive 3point rate is 124th and teams 3pt shooting% against us is 132nd. And it doesn't matter because teams now shoot 55.4% on 2s against us, which is 346(!) in the country. Can't win
- I don't know what Fielder did in the first half to not play in the 2nd, but given this is a lost season would like to see him play more. Part of the solace I was taking was as long as you see development with Epps, Fielder, Brumbaugh, Styles you could rationalize a lot of losing. Epps is being asked to do too much and the efficiency is cratering, Fielder and Brumbaugh cant stay on the court, Styles was great last night but inconsistent. I think we all appreciate it's going to look very different next year, and while we hoped this season was about laying the foundation on the court, it sounds like the foundation building is happening more off the court in anticipation of the transfer portal. Fingers crossed.

The whole Cooley exchange with the taunting student reminds me of both the legendary Roger Maris “hit ‘em with your wallet” retort when he would deal with Mick-fan hecklers in ‘61 by responding (allegedly) “oh yeah, how much did YOU make last year?” and a last game of the season I was at a few decades ago between two floundering teams (one the Wizards of course — some things never change) in which foe Jerry Stackhouse responded to a heckler during warm-ups by saying “I’m going on vacation for two months tomorrow. Have a good time at the office!” I have zero problem with a similar response by EC, especially in light of all the stuff he’s had to deal with in the move to the Hilltop.

Great post as usual.. Your last point is spot on, tough for me to feel confident if they're relying on the portal market.

Tough loss last night! I don't think Seton Hall is a very good team, but they have enough veteran players to make the right plays down the stretch to get some wins in a very tough conference. The Hoyas played hard and had some impressive moments last night, but just make too many mental mistakes to win close games. With the current talent level the margin for error for the Hoyas is really small. Just a few quick thoughts about the type of things that they just can't do and expect to win. First, the sloppy open court turnovers that turn into uncontested layups for the other team, there were at least two of them that I can recall from last night, that amounts to 4 points. Second, Seton Hall kept running the same inbounds play under their basket and kept getting a layup up from it, happened at least 3 times last night, another 6 points. (you just know the staff told the guys what was coming and they just did not execute the correct defense) While I am really impressed by how hard Supreme plays and his growth, he needs to start making free throws, he missed at least 4-5 of them last night. Thrown in missing some wide open 3 point looks from good offensive sets, and you see why they lose a 6 point game last night.
The fact they make these mistakes and are still in this game at the end, tells me they are growing and improving, but in order to get over the hump, you just need to clean up the little things. Let's hope that happens and they can find a few wins in the last few weeks here.

Great post as usual.. Your last point is spot on, tough for me to feel confident if they're relying on the portal market. The lack of minutes for Fielder and Brumbaugh indicate that Cooley is doing whatever he can to win games this year rather than develop players that will be on the roster next year. It's an interesting strategy for those that keep saying this is a throwaway season that we shouldn't care about. The playing time numbers wouldn't indicate that. Last night, minutes distribution was as follows: 38 Epps 38 Styles 36 Heath 35 Cook 24 Bristol 19 Massoud 7 Brumbaugh 3 Fielder 79 of 200 minutes went to 5th year seniors. 35 minutes went to a 4th year senior who appears to be our most indispensible player and we're hoping returns next year (even though many fans didn't want him back earlier in the season). 38 minutes went to Styles, who only has one more season in a Hoyas uniform. Only 48 minutes combined went to Epps, Brumbaugh and Fielder, most of whom were thought to be "core" building blocks that will be here for seasons to come. Fielder couldn't get minutes when Seton Hall was forced to use its pudgy backup post player with Bediako in foul trouble all game? At this point, you have to wonder what exactly Cooley is building with this year's team. Is there a foundation at all? Seems like it's Styles and Epps for one more season, and that's it.

Epps was 3 of 13 from 3 and had Styles early and Heath late shooting 3s decently. Hoyas need Epps off ball scoring and less on ball. I'm really wanting better advanced stats, as Hoyas had 18 offensive rebounds, but I really am curious what the shot was for those rebounds. These are the stats you want according to CBB Analytics: At The Rim: 3 In the Paint: 2 Mid Range 2s: 1 Above Break 3s: 11 Corner 3's: 1 Of course, we took 40 threes, so these numbers make sense. I was at the game last night, which was fun despite the loss, and I'll add some thoughts later today. I am just busy with work this morning, so cannot post more until later on.

We had 4 possessions down 51-44 and didn't score a point. Defensively, the effort was there. Epps and Heath basically shot us out of that game and Massoud produced the worst 19 minute stat line imaginable. Give Rowan and Fielder more minutes instead of Heath/Massoud.

Obviously not the reason for the loss, but more evidence of lousy uneven BE refereeing this year.

Every game is the same now. Epps has become Primo Spears reincarnated. Heath is walking accident, poor shots, bad passes and no defense. Yet he gets the minutes every game, especially at the end. Styles kept them close in the first half and then went missing for most of the second half. You have to give it to Cook. Outsized and less talented he fights for everything. He hits his free throws and he has two dozen points. Bristol overall is a better player than Heath has demonstrated.
Watching the game, it looked like the varsity playing the junior varsity. Seton players must have outweighed GU players by at least 20 pounds per player. Not fat but muscle. You wonder if the weight room at GU is under rennovation.
Why not Rowan or Fiedler is astonishing on this team and only makes it more likely they will be looking for a new place to call home next year. Rown is your only true point guard. If you don't play him then you put Epps in the position where he is both playmaker and shooter. Ish does his best but how often has he lost his man on defense?
