I haven't been able to post as much, but was actually able to sit down and watch the full 2nd half: - Epps is being asked to do too much and the efficiency is cratering
I agree with everything you said except this. In his 1st 2 Big East games Epps was 8/27 2/12 from 3 with 3 assists and 7 turnovers. In his last 2 games he is 8/27 4/12 from 3 with 8 assists and 6 turnovers so he's getting better! This idea that Epps is wearing down or there is no help is just a fallacy. Yea some guys missed some open 3s off his passes last night but they missed as many off Heath passes. That is not why he took upon himself to take some truly ridiculous shots. He did it because that's who he is. I am guessing some of the Cooley focusing on offense this week was getting Styles more involved and it showed in the 1st half. Styles is an offensive threat when used properly but like most guys it seems like he just watches Epps dribble too much and wait for him to do his thing. He's more passive by nature. That's on the coaches not the players. Cooley has to know what Epps is at this point and it's his job to reign Epps in and get better shots for the team. I think Cooley is good at that but he has let Epps run amuck way to much to the point where when he actually did say something last night Epps had the nerve to talk back. I think Epps is a better player than Primo but at this point the comparison is no longer unfair. These are there 2 Big East per game number Player FG FGA FG% 2P 2PA 2P% 3P 3PA 3P% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PTS Primo Spears 5.9 15.1 .391 5.0 12.1 .409 1.0 3.0 .317 2.5 3.3 .758 0.5 2.1 2.6 5.4 0.9 0.1 3.7 15.3 Jayden Epps 5.6 16.7 .335 3.5 8.4 .417 2.1 8.3 .253 4.5 5.2 .865 0.1 2.1 2.2 4.2 1.3 0.2 3.2 17.8 Fair enough. I dont love the Spears comparisons, mainly because I think Epps does a much better job of getting all the way to the rim while Primo loved pulling up for long 2s and Epps is at least taking 3s. But Primo actually hit those at a reasonable enough rate and Epps 3 point shooting has cratered so it's all kinda coming out in the wash. Link here has the trend on his offensive efficiency. Not super decisive either way but his season long efficiency is technically as low as its been since early in the season (not by much) and the 5 day moving average line was cratering until last night. FWIW I actually think its pretty impressive to carry a 100 rating on 30% (!) usage. Again i think that goes back to the existential question of is the usage high because he doesnt pass or because we don't have other choices. barttorvik.com/playerstat.php?year=2024&p=Jayden%20Epps&t=Georgetown

Of course his efficiency was going to go down. He's a streaky player who is more off than on. The best thing he did for his Hoya fandom was the early season explosion against American. That one game seems to have allowed him a free pass for his mostly awful play all season. He gets more excuses than any player on the team. I would be willing to bet if he is no longer here next season that people wouldn't be seeing him in such a shining light.

I’ll say this; I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but I do think Ed will regret that whole “I’m rich” line. What’s Ed’s persona/identity been for so long? Being the coach that connects with parents & promises that he’ll help mold their son into a man. If he continues on with the “so what, I’ve got mine” quips, will that really endear him to recruits or their families? I think that’s why this got the traction it did, it’s so far from his typical character
Edit: missed the “don’t”

So funny that you’ve gone from the board’s Chief Executive Whiner and Program Police Inspector to the poster whose head is buried deepest in the sand, and only pops out to enable and excuse this season’s ongoing failure.

As far as I know, it's also only being reported on Twitter/X and message boards like this. Which means that 99% of people who follow Georgetown basketball or watch Georgetown basketball will never know about it. I don't think Cooley should have said it, even if was in jest for this very reason. People take anything someone like that says--especially as colorful as that one--and run with it. There's just no positive from saying it, and instead Cooley handed his detractors something that they are going to be posting on message boards now from time to time, at least until we win. It was a silly thing to say. Ultimately, this won't matter if we win. And if we lose, that's going to eclipse anything he said too. I am already getting bored with it.

The Casual Hoya tweet has 61k impressions, it's in the Hoyas FB group, its on FoxNews, SI and the NYPost. I don't know how many people are left following the Hoyas that would care either way but safe to say they know about it. I too don't think its the end of the world but I think plenty of Hoyas fans know about it by now.

If Hoya fans have survived the last 5 years and still follow closely enough to see that, then they have been through so much worse than a coach saying something funny/dumb to an annoying spectator. If Ed eventually delivers, that might even be looked upon fondly as a joke later down the line.

Also, raleighfriar, did he use profane language during his press conferences at Providence? From reports, JT2 cursed in practice and the locker room, but I cannot remember him doing it during press conferences. Same goes for JT3 and Patrick…

It was a mistake - Ed must be careful not to repeat it.

Same goes for JT3 and Patrick… From what I’ve heard, he was told by the admin multiple times to tone down the profanity at donor events. Secondhand source so please take it how you will. In press conferences, he was usually pretty buttoned up unless he was trying to create a quote.

A random question occurred to me....who is better Massed or Kaiden Rice? Massoud. Kaiden Rice was not a basketball player. He was a run around the arc and fire guy. Might as well have never stepped on the other side of the halfcourt.
