I agree with that. And now he's up to 5 turnovers. And Brumbaugh back in the game. Epps dad yelling at him after turnovers. Didn't get to see the game but laughed out loud when I read this.

The answer to your "why is everyone so negative" questions get answered by the bolded part of your post. It's not about winning by 40, it's about playing a competent ball game. Making the same mistakes throughout the entire game isn't a good look as you've pointed out I actually think we’ve been making different mistakes each game, and that is a good sign. For instance, the rebounding disaster against Holy Cross has been better. Against Rutgers we did not move the ball at all, ending up with 4 assists. Today we moved the ball a lot and constantly made the extra pass, upping to 17 assists. Now some of those passes were really bad, which was most of the 20 turnovers. But if we keep making adjustments as we get experienced, we’ll get a better balance. This to me is way better than the last two years where we repeatedly made the same mistakes every game. Rebounding has definitely been a plus the last two games especially against Rutgers. I can’t get excited about the assist totals from today, MSM is not on the same level defensively as Rutgers so the jury is still out on how well the ball will move against better programs. I agree 1000% that what we’re seeing is much better than the last few years.

Epps dad yelling at him after turnovers. Didn't get to see the game but laughed out loud when I read this. His dad also left before the 8 minute timeout and never returned! I don't know what to infer from that! I was sitting in Section 101, Row C, within spitting distance of the Epps family who were behind the bench in row CC.

20 TOs just kind of overrides everything else. Have to believe that Cooley is going nuts. Breaking the press with passes instead of dribbling through defenders. Inbounding to the center of the court instead of along the sideline when trying to break the full court press seems like another obvious change. When Epps picks up his dribble (another mistake) players have got to move to come help him out. Just a lot of mental mistakes that hopefully are corrected sooner than later.
Not all negative though. Styles looks to be a steal in the transfer portal. Have seen more aggressiveness from Cook, a moment of confidence from Fielder and the use of a zone to offset the quickness advantage of other teams. Need Rowan to calm down. Ditto for Epps and Fielder. Heath seems a little slow and I hope it is just conditioning after missing so much time. Still waiting for Bristol’s shot to arrive but recall that he was a decent shooter last year—unless age is clouding my memory. Massoud may be the key but I saw him last year and he was a very streaky shooter so not getting too excited yet.

The young ball handlers on this team are better served at this point with offensive sets that start with the weave out top instead of one of them bringing the ball up and pounding it at the top of the circle. That just invites the trap, especially if the others stand still and don't keep moving. I thought of this post when I saw this tweet Coach Dan

You are correct on Cooley going nuts. I am within earshot with my upgraded seats and he shouted "Jesus Effing Christ" after one of the more egregious TOs. His engagement as a coach gives me confidence that this team will be better in February and March than it is now. Far superior than " Move" and "Rebound" exhortations.

I don't know how to bold or italicize so I resorted to all caps. Sorry I offended you. All good! All caps = internet yelling, but no harm, no foul. We all love our Hoyas and want to see them succeed. Absolutely.

I agree 1000% that what we’re seeing is much better than the last few years. The other thing too is that Cooley clearly recognizes and addresses the problems. Rebounding against Holy Cross, breaking the press, turnovers, etc. I think it's noteworthy that in a relatively short period of time we've improved on rebounding, and even in breaking the press today we were better, I thought--though still a ways to go. Clearly, taking care of the ball is now one of the biggest problems, so let's see how Cooley deals with our team responds to that. It's refreshing to have a coach that recognizes the problems and clearly addresses them with the team, rather than throwing the kids under the bus or spouting platitudes like the previous staff. I realize this year's team is going to be on the weak side, but the key is to see improvement. And I think today really did offer glimpses of improvement. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Today's game was not televised here, so I can't comment from actual observation, but I would be reluctant to say we improved in certain areas today as opposed to the Rutgers game, because there's a massive difference in the level of competition. And now we have a quick turnaround. I just hope we don't repeat last year's AU debacle.

Of course, Mount St. Mary's isn't nearly as good as Rutgers, but the team had clearly worked on things since Rutgers, including breaking the press in a different way than against Rutgers (passing v. trying to just dribble through a double team trap, for example). I don't want to oversell it, because we were far from perfect, but there were things that seemed better. We aren't playing an opponent as good as Rutgers until TCU, so until then this is all we have.

Who knew Styles would be this teams best player...love his game... Absolutely agree. He looks great. By the same token, it’s also a little dispiriting because it forces us to recognize the chasm between us and teams like UNC. This guy barely sniffed the floor there but comes to Georgetown and is instantly our best player. I know it’s not as simple as that, but it’s hard not to look at the disparity that has grown between us and actual good programs during the Ewing dark ages. I look forward to how we will be playing come January where I think we will be markedly improved.

Do you actually have nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon than post your garbage here? Truly not sure what Boya’s point is with the comparison. 4,846 would have been the 4th highest attendance number in last year’s OOC schedule, and more people than 4 our our 10 BIG EAST home games.
