I thought I’d be more excited to hear the news, it’s just that I have the inescapable feeling that we are going to absolutely eff this whole thing up (again).

The nightmare is over, I have been pretty vocal for my disdain regarding Georgetown but you have deserved better for a long time. If they are looking to go into coaching, Here are some I would like to see take over the helm at Georgetown: Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Allen Iverson, Mark Tillmon. At one time or another those Hoyas were instrumental in Georgetown beat Villanova. Bad joking aside, I am sorry it didn't work for him but it's time for Georgetown getting back to being Georgetown.

From the Athletic article: This is going to sound harsh, but there is one overriding reason: Ewing simply ended up not being a very good college basketball coach. He was a respected longtime NBA assistant, but his skills did not translate to those required of a Georgetown men’s head basketball coach, on or off the floor.
He recruited OK at first, but never extremely well, and he was unable to retain his best talent for long. On the floor, what was supposed to be a breath of fresh air for fans when he arrived — proper NBA-style pace-and-space ball — ended up being totally anodyne and ineffective.
Georgetown never defended, never ran good stuff, never recruited top players, never earned an at-large tournament bid or came all that close. He never did any of the things you need to do to be effective at this level. Ewing’s stature at the school made fans squeamish about saying it at times — until these past two years — but the whole thing was an embarrassing disaster engineered by Georgetown’s adherence to the John Thompson III family and built by a coach massively out of his depth. — Brennan
Finally, they get it

This is the best news I’ve received as a Hoya fan since the news that Ewing was coming to play for Georgetown. Ironic but true.

While I am happy to be moving in a new direction, I've been pretty certain it would happen. For a while now, I have been more worried that DeGioia and company would hugely mess up replacing Ewing, and that already looks well underway.
While I have little to no sympathy for Ewing, I do think it's a sad day for him and for Georgetown University. While I firmly believe Ewing should have never been hired in the first place, I did want him to succeed, and I did think a "Ewing brings Hoyas back" outcome would have been the best for all involved. It's just been abundantly clear now for several years (but especially the last two) that that would never happen. And having to fire your best player ever is never a good thing, but it had to be done (and a risk the university took upon hiring him).
I just hope we aren't back in the same place in 4-5 years because leadership messes this up as much as they did in 2017.

I endorse Kevin Ollie. Let’s go Hoyas! Kevin Ollie got a raw deal and ended winning the lawsuit for wrongful termination against UConn Kevin Ollie ended being hurt by all that early success at UConn including the National Championship. But the man can coach and is light years ahead of what we got out of Patrick Ewing.

Thanks Coach Ewing.
You love your school. You tried your best. It didn't work out.
The highlight was winning the Big East tournament title. That was a cool moment.
Moving forward, it is time for new blood. Let's get a young (or relatively young) up-and-coming coach with head coaching experience. A leader with attention to detail, especially on the defensive end. Shooting the 3 and defending the 3. That is today's game. Get some assistants that have recruiting ties to B-more, PG county/DC and Northern VA areas. Someone who understands the current college landscape of recruiting and what a student-athlete of today means. The old guard is being phased out (Boeheim, K, Williams, Jay Wright) for a reason.

I endorse Kevin Ollie. Let’s go Hoyas! Is he your top choice? Cuz I mean fair he has a title but his only college job was the one he drove into the ground and got fired from LMU coach Stan Johnson is my second choice.

I would love to know what went on inside the program this year. Yes, Pat is a bad coach, but the deterioration in play over the last few games indicates that it was more than that.

I hate that I'm so happy but this is what it has come to. I would love for it to be Pitino but really anyone that isn't a Amaker type will make me happy. At least for a few years.

Light years ahead of Ewing is not enough. That is most coaches.

Kevin Ollie won a title with inherited players and eventually was fired for ineffectiveness. UConn tried to dress it up as a “for cause” firing over NCAA violations (involving our old friend James Akinjo), and Ollie challenged it in order to collect his buyout. In other words, Ollie won his legal dispute by proving that UConn fired him for not being a good coach, rather than for being a cheater. I’d still probably take him over some of the other names that have been floated, but if we want a guy who’s won a title and is available, there is a much better choice out there.

I know it had to be done, especially the last three games, when it seemed that he lost our players including the games. But it also saddens me that our best player ever had to be fired. Many on this board were not even around for Pat's hay day (the board wasn't even around then), but those days were magical as Georgetown basketball had arrived. I wish Patrick the best as he celebrates his being a Hoya.

Pat: Thank you for coming to Georgetown and being the greatest basketball player ever to play on the hilltop. Unfortunately, your attempt to bring the Hoyas back to the glory days didn't pan out. Now, We must move onward and upward. AD Reed, President DeGioa, please hire Rick Pitino. We are on life support and need immediate resuscitation!!!! Mr. Pitino is one of the best basketball minds in the country and he doesn't have a buyout. This is the easiest decision in the history of decisions. Let's get er done! The sooner the better!
