I know it's probably physical/mental maturity, but he hardly dunked in college which was a mystery to me. It's like he skipped dunking in college and decided dunking was a weapon nn the pros.

Just what I said - maybe a total of 4 dunks (in college from these videos). No big deal though he is still fun to watch.

He's a two handed dunker as a result of his limited wingspan and smaller hand size. While he can certainly dunk easily with one hand, he can't cock it back and throw it down on someones head the way Ja Morant and others do that have much larger wingspans and hand sizes. He and Ja are the same height with the same vertical, but Ja has 5 inches of wingspan and much larger hands. It's simply a lot harder to dunk in traffic with 2 hands, especially at his height, than it is with one hand. In college pretty much all his dunks were on the break in the open court. In the G League he has had a lot more success at throwing it down with 2 hands in traffic as well as catching the occasional alley-oop in the half court which I think you could equate to simply 1, him getting better as a player, and 2, the defense being more lax at the G League/NBA level than college. At the college level, you'll get mugged trying to throw it down with 2 hands in traffic at his size, in the G League/NBA, there's way better spacing, leaving the paint not nearly as clogged, and guys will often times concede the dunk rather than give you a hard foul.

Did we ever see an Akinjo-to-Mac alley oop? No. It happened a lot in Kenner, but as many have said alot harder when people are actually playing defense.

Lacking height and length, He needs an unimpeded runway to dunk. I don’t think he can dunk from a stand still and he probably needs at least 2-3 steps to dunk. Only time you can really get that is on a breakaway but even then he needs to be clear of all defenders. He didn’t have many dunks at Texas Tech either for the same reason. If he were 6-7/6-8 he’d be able to get a lot of Darwin Ham type put back slams or Alley Opps. But at 6-1 or 6-2 doesn’t dunking in games isn’t going to be his bread and butter.

I’ve noticed that too in the G league highlights. His two handed dunk against defenders is something he didn’t have here or at Texas Tech. Overall thought dunking for him should primarily be for slam dunk contest. It’s a lot of wear and tear anyway for a smaller guy which will lead to a lot of injuries or deterioration at the elite level. Steve Francis comes to mind as someone whose body eventually just broke down and had a relatively short career especially at an elite level.

I think just as big an issue in games is that he is a TWO FOOTED dunker. So that requires a bit more free open space , as well.
