Very happy for Mac. that was the most impressive dunk contest performance I can recall in a long time. If the sixers were smart - they would put him on the active roster so he can put on a dunking exhibition in warmups each night. Fans (especially kids) will come out early to watch him warm up, the way they come out early to watch Curry warm up. And the NBA will sell a lot of Sixers #9 jerseys.
I know that a lot of us (myself included) had some frustration with Mac when he transferred. But he has always conducted himself with nothing but class and hard work. And seeing how the program collapsed over the past two years - I no longer hold any negative feelings towards any of the guys that transferred out. they were living this coaching incompetence every day. I can't blame any of them for wanting to get out of a dysfunctional program before it totally collapsed, and while they still had a chance to save their own college (and for some of them, professional) careers.

I kept trying to post word “wiShut upl” about the whole thing and “autocorrect” can turning it into gibberish (and still is and I don’t know how to fix it — the word I’m trying to use means sad about times gone by and a dollop of opportunities foregone)

Felt fortunate to have watched him and talked to him at Kenner. Class’act and continued following him at Texas Tech. I don’t think anyone who saw him questioned his dunk contest ability so not surprised he won even though the NBA and mainstream are just discovering him. Still has a long way to go as a player but this award will help him. Worst case scenario now he will be the in demand coach for vertical leap/dunking for nba/college/high school prospects.

Congrats to Mac. I have no idea if Mac will ever work his way into a NBA long term player but regardless, tonight he made himself a bunch of fans/money. He showed out of the biggest stage available to him and one that perfectly matches his skill set. He’ll be back next year in the contest.

Outside of the 4 days in March 2021, the Mackinjo era was the most exciting/promising time of the Ewing era. Just a shame they couldn’t co-exist.
