I know that you're highlighting this year's records in red in the final section, but it's notable that some of the others on the list also belong to Ewing.
Also, I think they said on the broadcast last night that we have a mighty-long road losing streak going on right now. I didn't catch the number and don't recall whether it was BE-only or overall.

And strangely enough, we won the BET Championship that year. Go figure.

I know that you're highlighting this year's records in red in the final section, but it's notable that some of the others on the list also belong to Ewing. It all belongs to Ewing. There is just so much bad to highlight that I didn't want the W-L record (and percentage) to get lost in all the red highlighting. Also, I think they said on the broadcast last night that we have a mighty-long road losing streak going on right now. I didn't catch the number and don't recall whether it was BE-only or overall. Yes, for that part of my post, I used DFW's info on the front page, but casual has another number. We'll get around to the right number. Btw, keep pointing out any other Pat Ewing records so I can include it here. It's just an easy way for anyone to understand factually just how bad Pat has been and that it's time to move on.

Here’s another one that is almost certainly going to happen. Heartbreaking, yes, but the administration is to blame for letting this continue. This should have ended after last season. No one survives 0-20.

Here’s another one that is almost certainly going to happen. I’ve been going to Hoya games since before the Big East. But I confess I do not have any memories of our time in the EIC.

While waiting for PRHoya to do the update of this extremely useful thread and set of PE stats following yesterday's desultory game, thought I'd bump it up AND throw this rather interesting stat into the mix. Yesterday I wondered where PE's record stood in terms of ALL TIME Big East conference losses, so down the rabbit hole I went only to realize there really are two tributaries of answer: (1) Successful coaches, who because of their success, lasted a long time and therefore accumulated a bunch of conference losses; and (2) Coaches who had no real success but who, for whatever reason, managed to last long enough to accumulate a bunch of losses because their teams (and coaching?) were terrible. PE can't quite get to No. 1 this year (guess which category?), but odds are he makes #2 very hard to catch... If I've missed any coaches, please correct me -- but I went to the obvious candidates
Including BET games (and remembering conference "only" began in 79-80) and accounting for what may be some bad addition/I could be off by a few games, in the FIRST (successful and thus long lived) category are
1. Boeheim 229 (losses in conference -- based on on-the-court results, not later-vacated-for-cheating losses) 2. Calhoun 180 (he was there forever remember -- was the coach that replaced the not so legendary/see below Dom Perno) 3. Jim O'Brien 133/BC (I originally had him in the category below, but likely that is unfair. Eagles indeed were terrible in the late 80s/early 90s -- but then got better/did well last couple years -- so well O'Brien was hired by Ohio State/lead them to the Final Four! Just don't tell DeGoia this, PLEASE) 4. PJ Carlisimo 130 5. Big John T. 128 6. Jay Wright 128 (like John Wooden, he had several years of lean before it all clicked) 7. Rollie Mass. 92 8. Louie Carn. 80 (it is surprising how long ago he retired/in 92 -- SJ has cycled though a lot of coaches since then...) 9. Al Skinner/BC 75 (was still the head coach when they left the conference for the ACC, after winning Big East regular season)
In the second category:
1. Letaio/DePaul 89/6 years (remember, DePaul was not in the Big East when he had his first head coaching stint there) 2. Ewing 81 (5.75/years -- and counting) 3. Purnell/Depaul 80/5 years 4 Perno (UConn) 68/7 years (in conference) 5. Wainwright/Depaul 55/4 1/2 years
There are not enough games this year for PE to overtake Letaio for you might call the "Championship Belt" (using that term intentionally). But the moral of the story stays the same: it is really hard/rare to be THIS bad for this long and yet be kept around and accumulate THIS MANY losses.

Including BET games (and remembering conference "only" began in 79-80) and accounting for what may be some bad addition/I could be off by a few games, in the FIRST (successful and thus long lived) category are 1. Louie 80 (it is surprising how long ago he retired/in 92 -- SJ has cycled though a lot of coaches since then...) In the second category, I found a surprise "winner" (e.g. the Biggest Loser -- by A LOT) 1. O'Brien/BC 133/11 seasons (It could be unfair to put him here instead of above, but the Eagles were terrible in the late 80s/early 90s -- but then got better/did well last couple years -- so well O'Brien was hired by Ohio State/lead them to the Final Four! Just don't tell DeGoia this, PLEASE) 2. Letaio/DePaul 89/6 years (remember, DePaul was not in the Big East when he had his first head coaching stint there) 3. Purnell/Depaul 80/5 years 4. Perno (UConn) 68/7 years (in conference) 4. Wainwright/Depaul 55/4.75 years (and counting) SOOO, including the BET losses (as the above do), PE is now post-Marquette at 81 Big East losses and No. 3 on the list above (or you could say No 2 if you move O'Brien to the "successful" list), without enough games this year to overtake Letaio for you might say the "Championship Belt" (using that term intentionally). If I've missed any coaches, please correct me -- but I went to the obvious candidates (O'Brien "obvious only in that team was SOOOO bad) Jerry Wainwright has not been DePaul’s coach for quite some time.

Of course you are right about Jerry Wainwright/replaced Letaio the first season DePaul joined the conference and later was fired mid-season. Fixed it in the original, and added Al Skinner

We remain in coaching purgatory. I don’t understand why Patrick and the admins insist on perpetuating this situation. It’s embarrassing to everyone.

The sad thing is that I expect inertia is a major factor in all of this. You’d hope that even if Ewing isn’t officially gone until March 9, that there’s be efforts to get ducks in a row and be prepared to hire someone as soon as possible after the season. I suspect they’re actually doing nothing.
