Georgetown has had a history of ruining my day since the 80's and regardless of the turmoil, I will always consider Georgetown Nova's biggest rival (at least for me personally). My very first game I saw Villanova play in was a 52-50 loss to Georgetown in the regular season of 1985. Countless defeats in the 80's, 90's. The worst loss was a a 108-66 loss to the Hoyas in 1996 in Bendover Maryland. (I won't call it Landover). Bought brand new TV's in the past on sales and was perfect for the Georgetown game, Yeah another Georgetown win, I think that was in the 2006-2007 season where Georgetown hit game winning free throws with no time left on the clock and not even going to mention the Big East Tournament on Georgetown's last win and their eventual run through the Big East. I don't like seeing how that program has taken such a step down and it's a shame considering the tradition of that program. I would wish you luck but I would be lying and was almost hoping you would knock off Butler because the brain kept thinking, I don't want these deleted beating Nova on Wednesday night. Personally, I think you deserve better and if this was any other school, Ewing would have been sent packing years ago. I may watch one of my Villanova-Georgetown games that I have in my collection. I hope you get a win soon but not this Wednesday. Somebody’s gonna get deleted tomorrow night

From the front page... it really is unbelievably bad...
“In 20 games versus Georgetown since the 2012-13 season, Villanova has won 17 of them. The last home win for the Hoyas in this series dates back nearly four years, where Mac McClung and Jessie Govan combined for 42 in an 85-73 win over the #17 ranked Wildcats. At that time, Georgetown was 16-10 and Patrick Ewing was 31-25 in his second season. Since then, Villanova is 43-17 in Big East play and Georgetown is 15-47.”

Unbelievable that the betting line is single digits. Villanova isn't good. Neither is Butler, American, Loyola Marymount or DePaul.

I don't know whether to envy or pity Hoya fans who are still willing to put time and effort into discussing individual games. I don't want to watch the games. I don't want the team to win. I just want speculate over potential head coaches (who the admin likely won't even bother to interview) to replace Ewing. Not sure what my point is here, other than how depressing it is that the Hoyas are playing Villanova today, and not only do I have zero interest in tuning in, but I'm actually dreading a Hoya win.

I cannot imagine a universe in which I was not looking forward to a Hoya game. 'Nova? Even more so. Cannot wait for 6:30 PM EST.

Despite the depressing circumstances that won’t ever change. I’d rather experience all the ups and downs of the Hoyas than sit on the sidelines bitter, angry, annoyed, bag on my head, making embarrassing posters, routing against wins, or shreds of positivity, etc. But that’s just me. I’m uncomfortable with everything going on and being said. But when I don’t know what I can do…I just show up and keep on being myself. To each their own.

I look forward to the games for the dark comedy. I also enjoy seeing Ewing get embarrassed further.

I am going to do the unthinkable and actually provide some observations about the game. Despite the betting line, we are still a fairly sizeable underdog on this. KenPom puts our odds at winning at 26%--which does make it one of our more winnable games remaining--but I think it's also possible to overstate our odds too.
First, I think people are underestimating Villanova simply because they aren't the Jay Wright top 10 type Villanova teams we are used to seeing. They are ranked 53 on KenPom, which is not a great team, but not an awful one either. Their offense is actually quite good - ranked 23 in the country. They are the best free throw shooting team in the country, their 3 point shooting is mediocre (ranked 162), and their two point shooting is good (ranked 56).
So while not an amazing offensive team like some of Jay Wright's teams, they are still pretty good. Which leads to...
Second, our defense is atrocious. When you combine Villanova's good offense with our horrible defense, it's a recipe for Villanova to go off on us as long as they can hit shots. Eric Dixon is shooting 39% from three, and Caleb Daniels 34.1%. And Arcidiacono is at 41.7%. Against our defense, there's a good chance they do better.
Third, Villanova's defense isn't very good, ranked 118. So bad, but not nearly as bad as ours. But our offense has been a dumpster fire, and if Spears and Murray insist on taking awful shots from long two point range it won't matter, we simply aren't going to be able to score enough points.
Basically, we do have a chance to win this, but it will require Villanova to miss a lot of open shots (like Connecticut did) or it will require us to shoot something like 65%. Otherwise, we probably lose.
Again, I think people are forgetting just how much worse we are than teams like Villanova. We are currently ranked 202. Villanova's losses are to teams ranked 3, 20, 40, 42, 52, 127, 154. So yeah, the Temple and Portland losses are pretty bad, but otherwise they have lost to decent to good teams. If Villanova loses tonight, it would easily be their worst loss of the game.
And PS. Villanova plays really slowly. They are one of the slowest-paced teams in the country, especially on offense. They clearly take their time and work the clock. That means a win by Villanova by an enormous margin is unlikely, though not impossible.

Yeah, I still show up at games, but I have no expectations of a victory and will be pleasantly surprised if we win or are even competitive. When we collapse down the stretch after being punched in the nose and don't respond, it's deja vu all over again and depressing.

Not sure what my point is here, other than how depressing it is that the Hoyas are playing Villanova today, and not only do I have zero interest in tuning in, but I'm actually dreading a Hoya win. I understand where you're coming from. More than W's and L's, I find it utterly depressing when the fan support feels almost completely gone, and it doesn't really feel fun to attend or watch games. I get the ambivalence. You're not even sure what outcome you want or who else even cares. Say what you will about last year's team, I think they fought til the end. We had some close losses down the stretch. After the Butler debacle, this year's team is starting to feel different. It feels like we're quitting. There is no cohesion. What likable players do we have left to root for (and which of them actually get playing time)? What else do we have left to play for? Maybe, just maybe, we can go 1-19 in Big East? I personally have never felt like I could root against the Hoyas, especially against a rival like 'Nova, but this is the closest I've ever come. Part of me wants us to shed all that, pull an unexpected victory out of our ass tonight, and have the tens of fans remaining storm the court. The other part of me wants me to us to lose in the most embarrassing way possible, for Ewing to be fired overnight, and for us to clean house and start from a fresh slate like we did with JT2 in 1972. I no longer plan my schedule around Hoyas games, but if I'm not doing anything else and there's a TV in front of me, I can't not watch. Just not sure what I'm rooting for anymore. Surprising victory or continued dark comedy. P.S. Echoing CT's sentiment, sorry to all those who want to do actual analysis. Bless your souls. Thank you for allowing some of us to vent here.

It would be kind of hilarious in a dark way if we win tonight against probably the worst nova team in ages (and without Wright) and what might lead to… lol I watch for funny moments at this point

Unbelievable that the betting line is single digits. It feels like a free money bet but when things are too good to be true.... I was out of the country for the Butler game, at a place that had a sportsbook. Had always said I could never ever bet against the Hoyas but free money indeed. I gave the points and walked away with some financial compensation for my troubles (which are many) of remaining a Hoya fan.... If I was still there, I might have to do the same thing tonight but will be at Cap One instead -- with profound ambivalence...
