IMO “Passionate fans” don’t deride players, coaches, and other fans when playing against long time rivals such as Villanova. Not sure I’d view these types as heroes.

Good players, yes, but they are visibly underperforming. Having Ewing yell " Move!" may be this generation's version of the double-fist, but these players continue to make the same mistakes game after game: they do not move on defense, are often way off the perimeter, and do not adjust to ball screens. Ewing benching Wahab is evidence of this--he's a senior and continues to get beat inside time and again. Georgetown is a -32 on three pointers in five Big east games. That's six more threes allowed a game. Other than Akok, I'm not sure a single one of the transfer brigade is significantly better than the players who they replaced in the lineup. On the bolded point, I made that point repeatedly pre-season. I think this year's group is more talented than last year's, but not enough to make a big difference. The big difference is that Akok is way better than anyone we had last year in the same role. Believe it or not, he actually helps our (very bad) defense a lot. And Wahab is much better than Ighoefe/Wilson were last year. And Ezewiro might be better than Ighoefe/Wilson too, but not by much. Beyond that, I do think Spears is better than Harris was last year, but Spears has his own problems that I've discussed in other posts. Beyond that, it's a wash at best. Murray was billed as better than Aminu, but I think they are actually similar players, though Aminu had a better motor. Both would have benefitted from real coaching. Carey last year was better than Heath before his injury. Anglin hasn't been as good as he was billed, though to be fair to him he hasn't had much of a shot, and I still hope he can contribute. As for making the same mistakes game after game, that falls on coaching, particularly since that phenomena has occurred across multiple rosters. I trust that Ewing knows that the mistakes are happening. I just don't think he knows how to fix it, because if he did, he would have done it over the last 5+ years. I still think we have a good enough core group that we could have had several Big East wins this season with the right coaching.

All-time Hoya dunks anyone??? Pat versus UVA '82 Iverson versus You Con '96 Hunter versus Seton Hall '01 DJ Owens versus Dook '03 Pat Jr. versus You Con (?) '07 Jabril versus SUCKS '13 Murray last night I am sure to be missing some/ many...Graham, Reggie, Zo, Victor, LJ, others... Please chime in; perhaps this discussion deserves its own thread. I remember at least a few monster dunks from Demetrius Hunter.....one against Seton hall that looked very much like Murray's. Just found a clip of it. Hunter was one of the best dunkers we ever had.

An occasional post here and there versus excessive criticism, trolling behavior, sub par basketball analysis, encouragement of people putting bags on their heads and making posters that are meant to kick a team of players and coaches while they’re down. Huge difference We have good players. No one’s knocking the team. The negativity is directed at the coach. We have one of the worst coaches of any power conference team and our records and stats back that up. I’d say every time someone suggests that X player should be having more minutes over Y player that’s taking a shot at both the coach and the player. It’s happening here, on Twitter, in the arena etc. I call it taking cheap shots from the sidelines.

If saying "X should play more than Y" constitutes a cheap shot, then we might as well shut down all fan discourse of sports, everywhere.

It’s not directed at the players and you know it. In fact, getting rid of Pat and staff is what’s best for the players. I bet that they would be 10-10 under a competent coach.

Best Hoya Dunk.
1978, Georgetown against Detroit in McDonnough, late in the season with both teams ranked at the bottom of the top 20, late in what became a one point game.
Craig ((Big Sky) Shelton takes a feed from John Duren and goes up against big leaper and future 11 year pro Terry Tyler, with both players eyes at the level of the rim. Big Sky forces the ball down through the hoop, almost breaking Tyler's wrists that are in the cylinder and bent backward by the force of Big Sky's dunk.

Are these comments from a “passionate fan” directed at a coach or a player? I am directly responding to a comment that “no one” is deriding players which simply is not true. Yes the abundance is aimed at Coach Ewing but don’t be intentionally obtuse that absolutely no one is directing this kind of stuff at players too.

You’re being obtuse if you do not consider the first tweet meant as a critique of Pat, not Malcolm, and the second tweet as a critique of Pat’s lack of developing Q. Remember when Pat said Q was going to be the best? Was he lying to us, to Q so he wouldn’t transfer or to himself?
