Speaking of Institutional Rot … the end of the Syracuse bench isn’t smelling so fresh these days.

Two terrible teams in a terrible game.
A coach who can't coach any more vs. a coach who never could.

Maybe Pat can channel his inner Big John and get run with two technicals.
Then after the kids scrap their way to late lead, Jay Heath (ludicrous late foul practitioner) can channel his inner Sam Jefferson and commit a foul 80 feet from the basket to blow the game.

Difficult to play at the Dome the first time there. Depth perception, crowd, etc. I am expecting a low shooting percentage from deep.

The huge crowd could be a good thing if you mentally think they are cheering for you. We always play them well. However, we have to make threes to stay in it. If Spears penatrates and dishes we win. Q be ready to catch and shoot please.

Yes - and the coach must tell him if he is open be ready to catch and shoot. Could be his breakout game if he is not run out to early. He seems to only get around 2-5 minutes a game if that. Still don't know why Bass and Mutombo don't see any daylight.

Oh and by the way you only have two days to prepare for the zone. Get the film on the St. Johns' game, I guess.

I’ll settle for the “catch” part - on both passes and rebounds- if a few baskets follow. Gravy!

I know this will fall on deaf ears - but Q should be playing as little as humanly possible this game (and many others)

I know this will fall on deaf ears - but Q should be playing as little as humanly possible this game (and many others) Q doesn't pass, his defense stinks as he overhelps and gets beat off the dribble, he only goes right, and he misses consistently inside. If we had a passing big, we could really get the ball moving and help the offense. I'm pretty sure Ryan or Bradley can be coached to not overhelp. They may still get beat off the dribble but I think both can be better passers from what I have seen (at least Ryan). They have better post moves and can shoot better. What am I missing? If I was coaching Q would be a break glass in case of emergency and would see very few if any minutes. I really don't understand what we are doing with him. Same thing at this point with Mozone. Use Anglin/Riley/Bass/Bristol who are presumably going to be here next year. Our season isn't a tourney season and Mozone is barely a plus player over those others (maybe a net negative on the whole). There is no vision with this program.

Oh and by the way you only have two days to prepare for the zone. Get the film on the St. Johns' game, I guess. Ewing has not done a bad job preparing for the Syracuse zone in the past few years and the team has gotten good shots, when they stay disciplined and don't make careless mistakes. Using Denver in this game to space the floor might help create more space for everyone else. Syracuse is not a great team, but they can get hot shooting threes, especially the Girard kid, so the Hoyas need to stay connected and find the shooters early. I am not sure if I am ready to say any game the Hoyas play this year is a game they "should" win, but this is a game they can win if they can play a full 40 minutes on both sides of the ball.

I'll be at the Dome - this is the big one for us upstate NYers. Similar to last season, a win over the orange will make the season at least half palatable.

We have played surprisingly well against Syracuse in the Ewing era despite most years having the inferior team, with a few wins and mostly competitive games. But this year I will be very surprised if we are within 10 when all is said and done...

I'm Looking forward to this game. While I'm disappointed with our performance last season, I'm on the side of those willing to give Ewing a chance to turn things around. I'm not making excuses for him, but roster upheavals during his tenure has had him starting from scratch, personnel wise, almost every season.
I know some blame him for his roster instability, but we cannot honestly critique his success, or lack thereof, without acknowledging the roster challenges that he has faced. From my view point, he has demonstrated that if he has the pieces and the personnel stability, he can produce winners.
That is why I feel good about this team. The pieces are there. The main players are all new, except Wahab(who wasn't on the team last year), so it will take time for them to gel. This team reminds me of the 2021 team, which finished 7-9 in conference, then went on to win the BE tourney. And, yes, I've been seeing gradual improvement, despite the out of conference losses.

I assume big men are still coached not to put the ball on the floor close to the basket unless absolutely necessary. No idea if Ewing tells Q that but Q is a serial offender in this regard and, as a result, draws a crowd before he is ready to shoot.

Roster challenges are part of the game. Every coach faces them, every year. The head coach is responsible for roster construction and roster stability. It’s Year 6. Pat has failed by any unbiased evaluation standard.

Not having watched Cuse at all, I don't really know who to hate. Girard is clearly an easy mark. It looks like Judah Mintz shooting sucks something awful. I really like the limited I saw out of Benny Williams last year. They beat ND which is a better win then anything we have so far. They got smacked by Illinois which we would too. I'm not sure what to make of this game. Murray seems like he could handle the top of the kid and get buckets. This was Aminu's game last year. It was his best contribution as a Hoya and unfortunately all he will be remembered for. I would really like a W here despite the overall season trajectory.
