Akok is perfect for the middle of the zone. Let's hope he is in there. Mark me down in the Q should play very limited minutes in this one. Hopefully we find our shot. There is no reason we can't beat them again.

Q had a good game vs Syracuse in his sophomore season and played just 20 minutes. That’s about what he should play.

Either the big 3 need to pass more too him or he simply has a Limited offensive game and can’t do more than he is doing now. If he had some sort of post game he could be used on mismatches down low or if he can put the ball on the floor and drive but my feeling is neither of those things is in his game. Which means he is a 3pt spacer which isn’t the worst thing in the world given his defensive prowess.

I'm Looking forward to this game. While I'm disappointed with our performance last season, I'm on the side of those willing to give Ewing a chance to turn things around. I'm not making excuses for him, but roster upheavals during his tenure has had him starting from scratch, personnel wise, almost every season. I know some blame him for his roster instability, but we cannot honestly critique his success, or lack thereof, without acknowledging the roster challenges that he has faced. From my view point, he has demonstrated that if he has the pieces and the personnel stability, he can produce winners. That is why I feel good about this team. The pieces are there. The main players are all new, except Wahab(who wasn't on the team last year), so it will take time for them to gel. This team reminds me of the 2021 team, which finished 7-9 in conference, then went on to win the BE tourney. And, yes, I've been seeing gradual improvement, despite the out of conference losses. Roster challenges are part of the game. Every coach faces them, every year. The head coach is responsible for roster construction and roster stability. It’s Year 6. Pat has failed by any unbiased evaluation standard. Thanks. Your point of view has been well represented on the board. I just wanted to share mine.

There are many teams this year that compare well to us conference wise that have the same/close to the same level of roster turnover as we do. Those teams include Texas Tech (10 new players) who is currently 6-2 and beat us pretty soundly, Illinois (7 new players) who is 7-2 and just beat #2 Texas, West Virginia (10 or 11 new players I think) who are 7-2, Kansas St (9 or 10 new players I think) who are 8-1 and most damning to me.....LSU who clearly had major turnover with players and coaching (we have their best player!), are 5-1. There are a couple more I am forgetting that I had checked in on earlier. Of the major conference teams with a large number of new players.....we have BY FAR the worst results. That boils down to one thing....coaching.

Ewing's teams have generally done well against the Syracuse zone. I think part of it is that the zone forces him to use a more structured approach to offense. For example, it did not surprise me that Aminu had a great game against Syracuse last year, because we played in a more structured way with discipline, and I think it reigned in some of Aminu's poorer tendencies. It also forces us to play more slowly and deliberately and avoid bad shots (i.e., against the Syracuse zone it's hard to get lazy and take the long two since it's not as available). Especially given the venue, it'll be hard to come away with a victory, but it also wouldn't surprise me either (Syracuse just isn't very good either, even if they are better than us).

Could this be a karma game for the closing of Manley Field House? The closing of Ewing’s coaching era?

Not having watched Cuse at all, I don't really know who to hate. Girard is clearly an easy mark. It looks like Judah Mintz shooting sucks something awful. I really like the limited I saw out of Benny Williams last year. They beat ND which is a better win then anything we have so far. They got smacked by Illinois which we would too. I'm not sure what to make of this game. Murray seems like he could handle the top of the kid and get buckets. This was Aminu's game last year. It was his best contribution as a Hoya and unfortunately all he will be remembered for. I would really like a W here despite the overall season trajectory. Shorthand for you: hate them all. You can't go wrong.

These teams are both so bad right now that a Chris Wright style Alumni game would be much more interesting.

Turdeon and Danny Manning really screwed Q up. Before Maryland he was at least able to score down low, block shots and rebound. Now he can’t even do that. It’s going to take a while to recover from the bad College Park instruction.

This looks like a game Akok can show out. He gets a lot of minutes but seems to be playing a little under the radar. Nobody has explained to me why Mutombo is getting "zero" PT.

He does have a nice 3-point stroke. We have seen fewer and fewer attempts as the young season has progressed. Wondering why. Maybe PE's view of a big man's role has him around the basket or setting picks all the time or something. He hasn't hit a lot of the few shots recently but that would be remedied by offensive plays to let him shoot.

I think there’s a scouting report on him and the team now and teams are just guarding him closely from 3. Kind of like when teams figured out that Nate Lubick was scared to shoot and just stopped guarding him outside the paint. Which made it 4 on 5 offense. (although not as bad as that) Also happened with Jeremiah Rivers where teams were just willing to give him the outside shot because Jeremiah would always miss.

I think it's simply that he's the #5 option on offense behind 3 "my turn" guards who like to make 1-on-1 playground moves and a post-up center. They don't run any plays for him. PNR is usually run with Wahab. Akok's job is to hang out on the 3-point line while the my turn guys make their moves, be ready if the defense collapses and the my turn guys decide to pass, then crash the boards in the 90%+ of the time that they decide not to pass to him. That's the offense we run. It's pretty simple why he doesn't get more involved offensively.

Play Akok at the 5 for either Pick-n-Roll....or Pick-n-Pop.. Then play 4 out with your best rebounding guard on the roster. Jordan Riley; 2021 NYS Gatorade Player of the Year. ESPN 4 Star Combo Guard who is your best on ball defender; who can bring toughness and energy when not sitting on the bench for 30 plus minutes per game...Just saying the question should be why is he not in the rotation from the start of the season. He played 9 games last year with a torn Labrum in his left shoulder; spent 7 months rehabbing...on a 4-5 team and he can't get any burn?
