This game is at 8:00 pm EST on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 on ESPN+. As of last week, Texas Tech was ranked 20th in the Coaches Poll, and 21 in the AP poll. KenPom ranks Texas Tech 27, Bart Torvik ranks them 24, Haslam Metrics ranks them 15 (as of this writing). Texas Tech's two losses are Creighton (KenPom 16) (76-65) and Ohio State (KenPoom 20) (80-73). The best team Texas Tech has beat so far is 127th Louisiana Tech (by 9), but they destroyed weak teams in Northwestern State, Texas Southern, and Louisville.
On KenPom, Texas Tech's defense is ranked 18th. Head coach Mark Adams was a long time assistant to Chris Beard, and is considered a defensive guru by some. Texas Tech has played at a much slower pace than us (297th/65.6 possessions per game), they shoot threes okay but not great (33.0%), they are good at twos (54.4%), they rarely get blocked on offense, and they do not turn it over much. On defense, they defend well against both the three and thw two, and get a good number of blocks and steals.
Texas Tech does not rely on three point shots to a significant degree, only taking 33% of their field goal attempts from three. But, they get a lot of assists, and they shoot free throws fairly well, as well.
This will be a tough one, and it will be interesting to see how we deal with offense and defensive that is at a much higher level than what we have seen to date.

"Interesting" is a very kind euphemism for what we are likely to see on Wednesday night. Most likely "can't look away from a car wreck" kind of "interesting"! I would love to think otherwise. but we have not seen anything remotely like the D Texas Tech will throw at us. Scoring under 40 points is definitely in play.

Texas Tech is completely overrated.
Anyone can win with good coaching and a well-run athletics department.
Try winning with Patrick Ewing as your coach and Ronnie running the program.

ESPN+ sucks and hopefully TT does too when we play them so the boys at least get a decent shot to compete
ESPN+ literally bought the rights to some minor English soccer tournaments, even tho they get awful viewing numbers, just to spite NBCSN (whose coverage of soccer is the best in the US hands down) and not let them have a monopoly on English soccer (the most popular). They’re so lame and won’t even broadcast those finals on normal tv

We have to pay for ESPN+ which is annoying. Does anybody know if they have replays? I probably cannot watch live and don’t want to waste money on something I cannot use to watch our game. It’s $9.99 a month, as far as I can tell.

It’s $9.99 a month, as far as I can tell. Very annoying for a strong OOC opponent. You may get ESPN+ if you have a premium Hulu/Disney package. When you remain irrelevant for a decade you get relegated to secondary channels and don’t get invitations to premier tournaments. The downward spiral takes hold and is difficult to turn around.

I haven't been posting as much as there isn't much of a desire for the board to talk hoops given what's going on.
That being said I have ESPN+ (thanks Disney bundle which is necessary for a 2 year old) so will make sure to write something up after the game.
For those of us on the board that appreciate defense, Texas Tech operates on a different level. They're famously known for their "no middle" defense. They will refuse to let ball handlers drive middle, you will see how the feet of each perimeter defender is angled to give up baseline. Once you drive baseline, you're dead you just dont know it yet. Because they know that's where the drive is going, everyone else is ready and waiting to hit their assignments. You get trapped immediately or get called for a charge. The only open pass is a skip pass to the farthest open player away on the opposite wing. And while that ball is in the air, everyone is busting it back to get into position and you're starting over with no time on the clock.
If you want the glass half full, they basically force you to go one on one...which is basically what our offense is anyway. Texas Tech will gladly take Primo / Heath / Murray (maybe?) pull up 2s, we'll see if they drop on Wednesday.

Most or all Low Division one programs are on ESPN+; When a Low D-1 program plays Top 25 that is where it will be....and that is where Georgetown basketball is ...A Low D-1 program

Ewing is the king of the back door cover. And the subsequent BS about how close many of the games were.

Slightly OT, but kudos for a nice piece about the '96 GU-Tech game on the main page. Memories. My only quasi-complaint is the point that the Hoyas were burned out in that game, so they were crushed by Mass. Basically, they were badly outcoached.

I doubt us being bad has anything to do with the game being on ESPN+. A lot of Big 12 games when they are home are on ESPN+ no matter the opponent. TCU and Providence are also on ESPN+ tomorrow.

Being 17.5 point underdogs to an unranked team is certainly a new low.

I will watch. I will walk away at the eight minute timeout. The TV will be on but I will be doing a thousand other things. Maybe this should have been in the prediction thread.
