It's super weird to me that after an offseason of being attacked for being too negative that someone's motives come into question for statements that the team might be mildly awful rather than exceptionally awful. I'm not sure I'd bet on above 5 wins but I'd bet on above 1. Regression to the mean is a thing, and as bad a coach as Patrick Ewing is, Wahab has been an efficiency monster this year, and the problem seems like usage. This team isn't going to win 10, but if you cut Murray and Spears' minutes to 28 and involve Anglin and Riley more why would 5 be off the table? TC this is Boya's pattern. If you don't pay attention you'll miss it but he will say things to make it look worse if they don't come true. He'll talk about Flowers being a GTown lock so when he goes to WVU it appears that Ewing lost the kid. Or in this case even the terrible Ewing will get 5Ws in this BE but no one watching thanks this GTown team is winning 5 gms. I see maybe 2. Butler and DePaul.....Boya just wants to make sure that no one screams progress after 3Ws 🤷🏾‍♂️ If they get three wins, you’ll be back on the Ewing is an ok to good coach train.

Right on cue - this is their other tactic. If you don't take a public blowtorch to everything associated with the program (players included) or dare to question their posting approach, you are a "Thompson/Ewing guy".

If ever, there was time to take a blowtorch to something, it is Georgetown basketball in 2022 and 2023. What the program has done is something I’ve never seen before. It’s not just horrendous basketball, it’s the corruption, it’s the lack of accountability, it’s the secrecy of keeping incompetent but seemingly entitled people employed who would not be employed anywhere else. I have never seen something like this before in American sports. I don’t think people appreciate this. If you are not willing to take an absolute blowtorch to the program now, why not? What are you clinging to?

Which part shouldn’t be blowtorched? And, after all this, how could we not mock someone who still is a “Thomspon/Ewing” guy? Edit - why is the word f1re auto changing to Leave?

I think we get at least 5 wins in the conference. The Big East is very down - I think there are really only 2-3 good teams (Creighton, UCONN, maybe Xavier). It won’t mean we’re better than last year, it will just mean the conference is worse. When I think Boya is being optimistic, I know things are bad.

The university itself and the people in charge have already taken a very public blowtorch to everything associated with the program. That’s why we are where we are. They’ve burned it to the ground and all we can do is sit and watch the embers smolder waiting for the sweet relief of the last one to burn out so that maybe the process of cleaning up the ashes and rebuilding the program can begin.

Edit - why is the word f1re auto changing to Leave? So you can’t say F1re Ewing It begs the question: in a sports-based forum with a historically bad team, why exactly are we not allowed to use the word “FlRE”? It’s not a curse word and it’s a highly relevant topic. In fact, it’s all anyone wants to talk about when it comes to the program.

My greatest fear is that we don’t rebuild from scratch. Pat eventually leaves, but it’s effectively business as usual. Continued mediocrity or worse. Can’t fire the people that do the firing.

Third, Ewing is being paid a fortune - well beyond some of the best coaches in the game. Fourth (and this is key), what makes Georgetown a disaster beyond anything I’ve seen before is that the problems are so much deeper than Ewing. So many key decisions are just hard to justify. What makes Ronnie qualified? Why doesn’t he address the media? Who hires these people? Why does everything have to stay inside the “family”? Why is the family more important than winning? And there have been a lot of bad coaches in college basketball. But you can’t try any parallels to the corruption, nepotism, cronyism, lack of accountability, secrecy, and poor performance that Georgetown puts on display. It’s on a different level from anything else and it’s an embarrassment.

And, like it or not, this is one of the more important places for fans to make our displeasure and need for change heard. The idea that we can’t say stuff that is obviously true is stupid. I know, it’s your place and you can run it however you want, but you are doing GU and GU basketball a disservice by censoring anything these days.

Until the smoking gun shows up we can chalk it up to rank incompetence and the repeated placement of unqualified friends, family and other assorted hangers on in positions of influence.
