He has no clue. Pat is not a student of the game. This is what we’re stuck with for $4,000,000.00 per year. The joke’s on us. This is hilarious like how clueless can he be? After year 4 of no real changes it should’ve become obvious he has no interest in learning the more modern college game so just here for the check and to be stubborn, I would be so embarrassed after the first few years that I would’ve locked myself in the film room breaking down every single possession to figure it out or just resign At least he said “I need”. Usually he just throws his players and staff under the bus.

I don't buy that anyway. LMU's 29-4 run began with 16 minutes left in the second half (and they had already closed the gap to 7 before that). If our guys are too fatigued 24 minutes into a game, I don't know what to say. Ewing MIGHT have a point if our defense collapsed in the last 5 minutes and we lost. But, that's not what happened.
What happened is that our defense was horrible in the first half too, but LMU shot horribly despite several open shots. They got the same open shots in the second half and began hitting them, and our offense consisted of Primo Spears taking long twos, and Murray making reckless drives into lots of guys, or Wahab trying to overpower 2-3 guys on his own without passing.

Once upon a time LaSalle along with St. Joes were nationally prominent programs. Hmm... private Catholic urban schools without an on campus arena. It can happen here -- or maybe already has. Tom Gola ain't walking through that door. La Salle has an on-campus arena, named for him. I was talking about an arena not a large HS gym. Gola arena seats 3400 about what our nearby HS gym seats.

Based on his post game comments, Ewing thinks the defense was better in the first half because they made fewer threes. He really doesn’t get it. Not a process over results kind of guy.

Based on his post game comments, Ewing thinks the defense was better in the first half because they made fewer threes. He really doesn’t get it. Not a process over results kind of guy. I really wonder where his thinking is at. I am not being sarcastic either. We do a lot of things that simply make no sense: - Not defending the three point line. We are allowing opponents to take huge numbers of threes. So far, 50.2% of our opponents shots are threes, which ranks us 350th of 362 in the nation. We simply do not defend the three. - It's not just attempts. Opponents are shooting 36.9% against us from three, which is ranked 258th. - On the flip side, we are decent at making threes (shooting percentage of 35.7%, good enough to be ranked 113th nationally), yet we are taking hardly any of them. Only 28.3% of our shots are threes, for 327th in the country. For those who don't like numbers, in short: (a) we are allowing opponents to take huge number of threes, (b) opponents are making threes at a very high rate against us, and (c) we are taking hardly any threes ourselves on offense. From a very basic level, if you allow your opponents to take a lot of threes and make them (defensive problem), and we take very few threes (regardless of whether we make them), it's virtually impossible to win. On top of that, our guys are taking way too many shots from mid-long range that are two point shots. It's hard to get good stats on this, but Haslametrics has a "mid-range" attempt stat, and we are 44th, meaning we are among the teams in the country that shoot the most mid-range to long range twos, and these are the WORST SHOTS IN BASKETBALL. So, we don't shoot threes, but we do shoot long twos that are highly inefficient. I mean, this is stuff that can easily be fixed with coaching. You run an offense that emphasizes threes, doesn't allow guys to take long twos (especially with ample shot clock - this happened multiple times against LMU), and you have a defensive scheme aimed at curbing the three, which this staff simply is incapable of doing. The roadmap to getting better (even if not great) is actually right there in front of everyone's face. Either the coaching staff doesn't see it, or it is incapable of implementing the changes in instruction necessary to achieve change.

With the start of the World Cup and NFL games tomorrow, is there any compelling reason to watch this trainwreck tomorrow? I’m pulling for our student athletes (they deserve better), but watching this coaching staff’s puzzling substitution patterns and lack of defensive strategy is tiring.
I was a season ticket holder every year from 2007 until this year and was tempted to give it another go with the excitement of a new slate of players. Deep down though, I had a sinking feeling we would see more of the same and passed on the opportunity. I’ll hopefully make it to a game or two, but just don’t feel as committed given the ineptitude of our coaches and the administration. Go Hoyas I guess?

If the offensive plan is to have Primo look to make a play and if nothing's there, pass it around and create offense (or whatever -- did I express it right?? seems so bad), then we will suffer, esp. when Primo has started to put his head down and forge downhill. If he were penetrating and dishing with any regularity and efficiency, that would be different.
Pare it down, way down. Unless you are breaking out in transition, set up half court offense, dump it in to Wahab, have him shoot and score, shoot and get fouled (and score) or kick it back out. Movement around the perimeter and maybe an open 3. Or work on some brisk ball movement and get someopen 3's and 15 footers.
Offer the team a prize to the player with the most assists each game.
Drop the press almost altogether. Full court man-to-man if you must to vary it up a little, but the press and trap seems to give up easy scores on the other end.
Expand your rotation to 8-9 guys. Riley gives quality minutes every time he's on the floor. 20-25 minutes for him - he's earned it. Will spare the seemingly out of shape Murray, too. Ryan gave great minutes and was rewarded with more time on the bench. Gotta see Anglin and Bass. Let Bristol and Primo work their magic in transition as they did in the GB game.
Lastly - the perimeter. With Wahab and Akok near the rim, shouldn't we be able to put more pressure on the arc?
This has been billed as a do-or-die season for PE. This is a do-or-die game in the do-or-die season. We have talent, we have length, we have speed -- use it all, spread the love, and get this thing going. There can be no more excuses.
I will be watching -- join me, won't you?

I’ll keep pointing this out as many times as I have to. Wahab is simply not capable of kicking it back out. He had a total of five assists during the entire 2020-2021 season, and has no assists in the first four games this year.

I will be watching -- join me, won't you? Go Hoyas! I will join you blue I too have been a fan since the early 70’s and this low is a as deep as it has ever been. Those who say that Patrick can’t relate to this generation of players in order to get them to follow his game plans on offense and defense may have a point. How ever the 2019 team of Blair, Pickett, Moseley, Allen and Wahab played some effective defense overall and played some pretty offense at the end of the season despite going 7 deep. So is it that now he is recruiting s different kind of player!? Does any of the current players have Moseley grit and determination? Does any of the current players have the calmness and leadership of Allen? Does any of the current group have the consistency in 3pt shooting as Blair? And finally does any of the current group have the raw energy and determination to block every shot and get every rebound as the 2019 version of Wahab? Although the 2022 Wahab has the same body, there is no fquestion that the 2019 version was better. He was a “ black hole” then also ,but his other attributes of rebounding and blocking shots were much better. Every successful program has an identity. Do we know what the “Hoya way” is anymore? How many of us thought the Ewing era would bring back the JT2 way of great pressing defense rebounding and running, not the NBA pro offense and passive defense. Where are you Patrick Ewing, disciple of JT2? This version I know not.

So I would like to just see some individual and team growth in this one. I liked the fact that they tried out a 2-3. I liked the fact that they tried having Q ICE screens instead of hedge. I didn't think either worked really well but at least it shows that someone is saying "this ain't working....let's try something else."
I desperately want to see guys not having good games sit down. Heck, the bulls sat their all star guard this week in the second half because he wasn't playing well. It's not a punishment.

Rooting for these kids... that's the best I can say at this point...

Was that perplexing recruiting decision the first strong indication that Ewing may have no clue what he was doing?
