Carey left on his own. Let us assume that at least one of Billingsley and Beard was gone. With Rice, that is at least three open spots. So yes, I find it very feasible that there would not have been time for those guys in the absence of anyone being "forced" out.

[]On the "reduced role" issue, I would argue that's exactly what happened with Malcom Wilson. He probably did not want to transfer/leave, and so the team came up with an alternative. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing (i.e., the team working with him to keep him involved, even if not as a player). I'm not going to get trapped in the maze of circular logic here that being team manager and picking up the laundry is a "reduced role" from being the starting center. If someone loses their athletic scholarship and is forced to do something else (team manager, work for facilities) - that is a run-off. www.vice.com/en/article/53x5pq/did-northwestern-basketball-run-off-johnnie-vassarA f—-ing entire season of reading this poster’s obsessive thoughts on how/why last year’s players left is a pretty good version of hell. Please, everyone stop engaging on this subject.

They definitely got ran off. Don’t insult these kids’ intelligence. When they are told they don’t figure to crack the lineup the following year, they know they aren’t wanted. They can do the math, these kids can read the tea leaves. But when a coach brings it to their attention, it becomes uncomfortable to stay somewhere the coach doesn’t want you.
Georgetown isn’t unique in this, a lot of programs do this. It’s so far down the list of issues with the program, it doesn’t deserve this much attention. But let’s not pretend like Ewing’s character is above this.

Whether the players were given a firm nudge or a swift kick is not a significant difference to me in this instance because I recognize it was a desperate attempt by Ewing to turn around his coaching career and the program. It is not a sustainable model, whether you believe it to be ethical or not. So, I am willing to look the other way just this one time to see if Ewing can right the ship. Early indications are not promising.

My hope is that Anglin and Bass don't become afterthoughts - they need some meaningful reps to secure the future of this program.

I do not understand the logic of Primo Spears playing 35 minutes against LaSalle and going 0-7, with 1 assist, and 2 turnovers, and only giving Anglin (who did make a three and had one assist) 5 minutes. I realize that Anglin is not a point guard, but still, especially when we were struggling with offense in the second half, you'd think he would have merited a few minutes. I was really high on Anglin coming into this season based on what I have read, and yet, we've seen very little. I am not saying he's the answer to our problems, but I do think the guy has talent and I'd like to see him play enough that he'll want to come back next year. It would be one thing if he was a project (or if he plays and shows he's not ready), but he hasn't looked out of sorts in the limited time we have seen.

I'll respond simply as an appreciation to the topic. It's clear that Ewing doesnt think he has another "pg" on the roster other than Spears. I think we can all agree it's probably not Anglin, I think what's surprising is that Ewing hasn't been willing to put the ball in Heath's or Murray's hand to give spot PG minutes. You do wonder how much the Harris decision threw a wrinkle into the offseason plan but you have to attempt to adapt and we're not really yet. It was an offseason discussion where Heath was considered a distributor and...I certainly wouldn't call him that after three games. Murray has wracked up a surprising number of assists (mostly in first 2 games) but wouldn't love seeing a team press him. It's definitely a problem but I think we need to see what a Heath / Anglin / Murray backcourt can do and have whoever is getting pressured the least get the ball up and get into offense.
