Philippines 1 NZ 0. An historic first with the first goal by PI in the World Cup and the first win to boot. However, I have not seen Maya in the lineups. Our niece in the Philippines was very happy with the victory. Also, at EJ Obiena beating the world record holder and Olympian champ in the Pole Vault in a Diamond League meet.

Maya was not named to the 23-woman roster; she is one of the three reserve players that can be added to the active squad in the event of injury, etc.

The Malditas of The Philippines (not to be confused with the Matildas of Australia) have captivated the basketball-obsessed nation of 7104 islands. Though 90% of the team are foreign-born, the country has still embraced them warmly as if they were homegrown. The next match against Norway will be must-see-TV for 130 million viewers.

Source re: interest in Philippines? Born and raised in the PI and so follow Philippine politics and sports closely. Nevada Hoya has been nice enough to reach out on a few occasions due to his connection to the PI.

Nevada Hoya has been nice enough to reach out on a few occasions due to his connection to the PI. Nice! One of the most beautiful girls on campus during my GU years was from there. It's a great story to see a country get behind their national team even though 18 players were not born there, but are part of the country's diaspora. Only one player comes from PI's national league. I don't know if you've read this, but here's a great article about how the PI team was created: tinyurl.com/cnddscxwIt could be a model for other national teams. Heck, Mexico's men's national team has two Argentina-born players and two US-born players.

Well this week August announces the beginning of WSOC on the Hill. As a point of information does anyone know if FloFC will be the source for streaming again this year, or has it moved to another provider. Thx in advance.
