So, Colorado's sort of going home, and both the AAC and Conference USA would appear to have no fixed identities whatsoever - just transition stops on the way up or down the ladder?

Expecting to see Arizona, Arizona State and Utah announcing tomorrow that they are leaving the Pacific 12 and joining the Big 12...which, with Colorado, will swell the latter to sixteen teams.
Big Ten appears poised to offer membership to Oregon and Washington, after the above departures become official.
As for Oregon State, Washington State, California and Stanford...some rumors that the Mountain West would take the Beavers and Cougars, with the Golden Bears and Cardinal staying independent, after the demise of the Pac 12.
But...our friends in Storrs are staying put.

The school presidents, athletic directors and conference commissioners all should be ashamed of their role in tearing asunder the fabric of college sports. But they’re too busy taking orders from TV partners and counting the resulting revenue. Yet and still, there is nobody looking out for the greater good of the entire enterprise—nobody willing to throw on the brakes and slow the gravy train. www.si.com/college/2023/08/02/college-sports-soulless-spiral

It's a lot different when the ox being gored is yours.

Yes, to the media the end of the Big East was just progress. The breakup of the PAC 12 is the Guns of August.

As a fan of the Pac 12 going all the way back to its old Pacific Coast Conference days, I'm sad to see this happen (just as I was sad to see the dismantling of the original Big East), but the fact is that my allegiance to the Pac would have ended with the departure of UCLA and USC anyway, and that move combined with the TV contract debacle made this inevitable. RIP, PCC/Pac 10/Pac 12. No more Conference of Champions.

So long as I don't have to listen to him rhapsodize about the "Conference of Champions," I really don't have a preference.

One of the endearing (or not, depending on your point of view) things about Bill is that he has no filter. Particularly if he is covering a game involving any former Pac 12 team, I guarantee he will throw in multiple Conference of Champions references.

Not surprising there are holdouts since some teams want to leave and expansion could kill any chance of dissolving for now. Based on speculation from other articles it seems like the schools can break the grant of rights if enough teams want to leave but there definitely isn’t space for 8 or 9 teams in the two “super conferences” that everyone wants to be in. Even though i think there are teams other than the obvious who can find new homes as I could see the Big 12 taking Pitt and Louisville for a pod with Cinnci and WVU. Who knows if that’s the case but it’s certainly not the end of this.
