Amani Hansberry is a 6'7" forward out of Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore. He is a bear in the paint, versatile on both ends, and has a 7'1" wingspan. Was recently awarded the Baltimore Sun Player of the Year.
Georgetown has offered, but I wonder how involved they actually are. Hansberry is being heavily pursued by the likes of Penn State, Illinois, Boston College, Virginia Tech, and NC State, amongst others. Villanova also.
You can check out everything you need to know about his game in an in-depth evaluation that was just published on the Point Guard Eyes site. Kid has gotten better and better, adding a versatility and a perimeter skillset.

In a tough matchup against Paul VI, Amani Hansberry definitely did his part in front of tons of college coaches that filled the seats. Although the 6-foot-7, 225-pound power forward out of Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph is under sized, his ability to handle the ball, shoot it from mid range, and patience in the post really opens up his game. Hansberry is a double double threat each time he steps on to the court and competes at the highest level. Hansberry has become a big target for a host of high majors with Penn State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Illinois among some of the schools showing interest in attendance. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Khani-Rooths-Luke-Bamgboye-Drew-McKenna-Amani-Hansberry-188948946/

The 6-foot-7 Hansberry is a walking double-double, and stayed true to form while averaging 15.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.75 assists per game at Session I. I saw him post 18 points and 10 rebounds to keep the Gaels in it against PVI, and watched him follow up with another 18 and 10 in a win over Georgetown Prep. Hansberry’s combo of size, offensive skill, rebounding prowess and passing ability is tantalizing, and Xavier is the latest program to offer. www.dmvelite.com/news_article/show/1230386#.YrSBTgoPvmc.twitter

The arc of top 150 power forward Amani Hansberry and his development has been really interesting to watch because faced with a fork in the road of his development he chose to work hard and get better rather than rely on his early reputation. When the Team Durant and Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph first hit the scene as a freshman, he was bigger and stronger than those in his class and could overpower most in the post. He also had a great motor. As the next couple of years passed, his peers caught up to him and his status slipped a little between the end of his freshman and beginning of his junior year. Lately, Hansberry has been on a tear. He’s gotten into the best shape of his high school career and has really added to his all-around game and fins ways to be productive each and every time out. He will make some jumpers, he is always going to be active on the glass, he’s a terrific passer and he’s sneaky switchable on the defensive end. The guy is just fun to watch because of his smarts and efforts and you have to respect that he always finds ways to be productive. So far, Hansberry has taken official visits to Boston College, Illinois, Penn State and Virginia Tech. He said he’s got a trip to Miami set up for the end of July and that unless somebody who can really change his mind jumps in and goes all out to get him, he’s probably going to move into decision mode shortly after that visit to Coral Gables. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/LongFormArticle/Basketball-recruiting-Nike-EYBL-Kansas-City-Naas-Cunningham-Amani-Hansberry-Elijah-Gertrude-Justin-Edwards-189909568/#189909568_2

So far, Hansberry has taken official visits to Boston College, Illinois, Penn State and Virginia Tech. He'll visit Miami at the end of the month and he broke down what he liked about the visits he's taken and what he'll be looking for on his next trip. Boston College: “They are really focused on developing their program and getting wins. They just got a new facility that they showed me around and that was pretty cool. Coach Grant is a family guy and that’s really important to me. He showed me during my visit that family was important and that if I come there, he’s always going to take care of me.” Illinois: “I really enjoyed how they focus on doing what they need to do to get their players to the League or to the pros. They really develop them in their system, and they have they freedom that when they move on to play in another system they’ll fit in that system and that stands out to me.” Miami: “The most important thing for me is to see that they can develop me. I know going to the next level I’ll be facing stronger and bigger guys so being able to develop and maybe move out to the wing a little and showcase my skills shooting a little more. I think that could help me improve. So that’s really what I’ll be looking for on my visit.” Penn State: “I liked how they focus on developing their guys. I know coach Shrewsberry is new there and last year was his first year but with the resources he had he put together a pretty good first year. I really admire his basketball brain and how he is able to put everything together and develop his kids.” Virginia Tech: “Their approach to the game is a little different. They watch a lot of film, and they are very statistical. If you get in the gym and shoot your shots if you can’t make a certain number, then you can’t shoot that shot in a game. It’s really cool how they use stats understand what their players can do and how to improve them.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/College-basketball-recruiting-Amani-Hansberry-Boston-College-Illinois-Miami-Penn-State-Virginia-Tech-190055809/

Too bad, he seemed like an interesting player.

Think our 1A target has always been Miranda. Fingers crossed we get good news on that front soon enough and move onto snagging a high level wing (Parker)

Hansberry continues to dominate at Peach Jam... "But the matchup that caught my eye coming into the game was JL3 four-star Zayden High and Team Durant three-star Amani Hansberry. Hansberry is a walking double-double, with long arms and huge hands. He can score over both shoulders or square up and create from 18-feet. He had 23-points and 15-rebounds, including the game-winner." www.on3.com/news/live-blog-day-2-of-nikes-peach-jam/

Today’s Production Monster Amani Hansberry. Hansberry can be called gritty. Productive is another word that will get used. However it is you describe it, he puts up numbers. Hansberry has long arms, a wide body, and soft hands. He goes and gets the ball and seeks out contact on both ends of the floor. Hansberry finished Day 2 of Peach Jam with a 23-point and 15-rebound performance that included the game-winning offensive rebound and put back as time expired. It’s no wonder numerous high major schools are after the top-150 post. www.on3.com/news/shaws-sights-and-sounds-from-day-2-of-nikes-peach-jam/

I know it's hard to control the negativity, but maybe not posting about HS kids we are NOT recruiting would be one place to start. It's a GU board after all, not a HS forum.

Hansberry’s game-winner punctuates day two Team Durant and JL3 Elite met up in the final game set of the day and delighted the onlooking crowd (which included Blake Griffin, who stuck around after watching his Team Griffin squad a game earlier) with an exceptionally competitive and exciting game. The game went all the way down to the wire with JL3 holding a one-point lead, but Durant having the final possession of the game. Kwame Evans Jr. wanted the last shot. He got the ball just inside the right wing and aggressively looked to back his way into the post. While the go-to move wasn’t especially polished, the timing couldn’t have been any better. He gave his team enough time for an offensive rebound, and the opposition not enough time to go the other way. That was all Amani Hansberry needed. He wedged his man under the rim, secured the offensive rebound, and put back the game winner just as time expired. It was a fitting conclusion as Hansberry had been tremendous all game long, finishing with 23 points and 14 rebounds while showing his constant efficiency, heady approach to the game, and some of the best hands in the EYBL. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/college-basketball-recruiting-nike-peach-jam-day-2-bronny-james-gg-jackson-justin-edwards-190268565/

Only to be disappointed, every time. This stuff is ridic though, steady updates on a guy we aren't on - just silly.

There have been a good number of recruits that have come out of left field and his information (in the off chance that somehow a kid we don’t think we are on but the staff makes up ground and gets a commit) is helpful. If you see the messages that we aren’t on the players trail anymore then just note that and don’t check the thread or wait until there’s buzz in another general recruiting thread. I don’t think it’s fair to let your frustration with other aspects of boyas posting bleed over and cause you to write off everything that he does.

The bad outweighs the good with this clown - by a ton. Hopefully he’ll keep posting made-up, libelous statements on here and get the ban he so richly deserves.

Boya started his Marvel attacks 2wks ago. We all know that Hansberry didn't include us in his "Top whatever". Boya is only giving updates because he wants to draw attention to a local kid he believes Ewing should have recruited harder. There is a anti-Ewing agenda with every post Boya makes. Whether it's direct or indirect.

Where is there evidence from a reputable source that we're not recruiting Hansberry? The Twitter link from last night had Georgetown as the second program listed. While I certainly think Ewing has been a complete disaster as head coach, based on 5 years of proven incompetence, I can't imagine that Nickleberry would not be actively recruiting an area stud like this.
