Guys like Mike Boynton and Kim English would be my first calls, but there are a lot of others who deserve a look. Dennis Gates, 2 x Academic All American @ Cal, graduated college in 3 years, took Master's degree classes his senior year. Spent 8 years as an assistant under Leonard Hamilton @ FSU, currently head coach @ Cleveland State - took over a 5-13 squad from the previous year, led them to 11-21 record his first year, 19-8 last season, 13-4 @ present. Gates would be an interesting choice and definitely worth consideration.

I don’t know a thing about Gates/never heard of him and express no opinion here on the overall hot topic it concerns but will throw into the mix (as some may know but many may not) that Lee Reed was AD at Cleveland State immediately before becoming our AD, so this would be a candidate that is not completely under the radar

I know for a fact that that isn't how JT3 was hired. I know at least 2 coaches that were contacted about the job. And we made the right hire at that time indisputably. Out of curiosity, who were the other 2? Not sure there if there were more than 2, but the search committee spoke to Joe Scott from Air Force (hot commodity — was #3 in National COY balloting in 04 then had a disastrous run at his alma mater Princeton) and Fran Dunphy at Penn. Ironically, Scott replaced JT3 at Princeton and flopped. I made an asinine argument at the time that Princeton had made a better hire than Georgetown. This information was shared with me by a former Princeton player and friend who almost knocked us out of the tourney in 1989. I shared on the board at the time w Dan’s permission. The other coach rumoured was Willis Wilson from Rice— but i dont have dorect knowledge of that.

Article by Feinstein in Wash Post sports today about Maryland hunt for a new coach. We might be interested in a Maryland reject, especially if that reject is Andy Enfield.

I wonder if Brad Stevens wants to get back into Coaching at the College level. Less personalities to deal with then NBA. I'm sure it'd be tough to leave his cushy FO job though.

Remember when Pitino changed into the white suit at halftime vs. us? He loves him some attention. ( I think it was actually John Wooden who originated the change into white suit at halftime move). Betcha he’d have us in the top ten within 3 years…….and I still wouldn’t want him.

I remember being so annoyed at the broadcast because they kept talking about how much better Louisville played after the suit change as if that had anything to do with it lol.

What's wrong with Enfield? I think it is an allusion to Florida Gulf Coast University's dismantling of JTIII's team in the NCAAs in 2013, a fifteen seed over the second seeded Hoyas. Enfield leveraged his team's run to the sweet 16 into his USC gig.

Of course. I just hope that will not happen. I am confident that if there is a change, at least the search will be done in the traditional Georgetown model. I hope not to have to find out if that will be the case. Thanks for answering honestly. As you have read, the traditional Georgetown model after JT2 was: (1) to have a “one-man committee” (JT2) pick the new coach; and (2) to pick “one of us” (a person somehow related to JT2). In your opinion, is that how the search should be conducted next time? Who would substitute JT2 as that “one-man committee”? Who is available in that “one of us” group? In theory, we had a two-person committee - Lee Reed and Paul Tagliabue. And if we could have gotten Shaka or Mike Brey, I believe we would have taken them in a second. I think we might have taken Ed Cooley also. I was told that each candidate wanted to know, right away, what the role of JT2 would be.

I think I saw somewhere that Louisville might be interested in talking to him.
