You really love to hear yourself talk don’t you? Context and opponent matters. A 3 point loss to Butler is equally as bad as getting blown out by 20 to UConn. Had we suffered a 2 point loss to UConn, a lot less to complain about. UConn is a very good team. We lose to them probably ten out of ten times with the personnel they have. We probably lose by double digits most of the time too. Pssst, did you hear that UConn could be a final four team this year? Pssst, did you hear UConn’s coach is only in his 4th season after inheriting a program in dire straits in terms of talent and conference affiliation?

3 winnable home games this week and then at DePaul. We could win a couple of those.

People need to stop engaging him. It’s just wasting time and energy. The majority of rational fans understand the situation and are hoping this is the final string of games under this regime.

For GU to win one of the remaining games: the opponent will need to be ice cold from 3, maybe have some COVID issues, and GU will need to be hot from 3 (which they have been pretty often). Nova, UConn, and maybe a couple others are L’s regardless. There probably will be 1 or 2 wins, but the national media is already attuned to the program’s historically bad season. In its seventh season without an AP Top 25 appearance, I think Georgetown is sufficiently off the radar (read=not in ESPN's discussion) and so the national media hasn't dwelled on it in full throat. ESPN's College Gameday did a feature on "Bluebloods vs. New Bloods", loosely defined as Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, and Carolina vs. the likes of Baylor, Auburn, Gonzaga, and Villanova. Georgetown never came up. The New York press likely weighs in with the upcoming games with Seton Hall and St. John's. FWIW, I think it's easy for Tony Kornheiser to pop off because there's no John Thompson to call him at two in the morning.

Pssst, did you hear that UConn could be a final four team this year? Exactly, so a close loss to them where we played good basketball but still lost and there would be a lot fewer complaints. But a close loss to a bad Butler team just says we’re worse. I got news for you pal. No team that is picked to finish at the bottom of their league will have a "close loss" to UConn. Also, if we were to have a close win against Butler, would that then make you happy?

Look at Marquette, picked one spot ahead of us, and they lost by single digits, down 6 at the half. Now they’ve got themselves ranked in the top 25 with an even younger roster. Listen, any wins are better than losses, so I’d be less frustrated. My comments for the game probably woulda been something along the lines of, ugly game but at least we got one in the win column. Now can we string together another. Or something along those lines. A close win would’ve meant despite our mistakes, we made enough winning plays.

Yes and I also heard that he has kept his core team for all four years too. That’s the coach’s responsibility. If you can’t keep the players you recruited or replace them, that’s a failure. It’s an indictment on the culture.

Yes and I also heard that he has kept his core team for all four years too. You heard wrong. He lost Bouknight early to the NBA this year. And you are aware that the coach is responsible for assembling the roster in college basketball and that there is no salary cap limiting the caliber of player you can get?

I just hope we win a game at some point. We missed a good opportunity today. There are a few chances left on the schedule — I hope we are ready in those games.

Tafkash...let me ask you this...for you personally what would you consider the end of the line for Ewing? Say we finish last this season in the BE which seems likely (maybe we finish better than DePaul). I think it's reasonable to expect that Carey, Aminu and Rice are all gone after this season. Not a guarantee but I think it's a likely scenario. However let's say in this scenario everyone else returns. The following season let's say we go 7-13 or 8-12 something like that in the BE and no postseason. That would be 6 seasons without a winning record in the BE and 1 NCAA bid. In all likelihood a losing overall record (assuming wins continue to be hard to come by this year). Would you personally bring Ewing back for year 7?

We had four players who logged 30+ minutes today—only Aminu, the best of them, is a frosh. Rice played 17 — a grad transfer. Tim fell out of favor, but still played 14 minutes. He’s been learning for 2+ years.

The only problem is, I really believe that Ewing is not the issue. I believe that Georgetown is not coveted by the best players anymore. I think that no matter who you bring in, they are going to struggle unless who you bring in can get guys to transfer like Shaka Smart did at Marquette. Maybe that's a possibility but relying on high school kids and especially the local recruits will bring you nothing but headaches because you're not landing the cream. Maybe I'm wrong. As for Ewing, I say you treat it like kid gloves. You let Ewing down easy and so you put a situation together where Ewing makes the decision with a little nudge by the Georgetown brass. Otherwise, you ride it out and let Ewing rebuild the program which I think he can do. In the last years of JT3 we were having problems getting good players to come to Georgetown and it just extended into the Ewing years. You all say that he is a bad coach and I beg to differ. I'm watching St Johns get blown out by Villanova and its barely in the second half. We hung in there until the last 10 minutes. Does that make the coach for St. John's a bad coach too? The fact of the matter is everything happens in waves. Right now we are not that good and it gonna take time for us to get there regardless of who the coach you put in unless you take the Shaka Smart approach or you cheat like the Louisville coach did.

You’ve never once made the argument that you think you are making. Eligibility of an entire roster, many of whom don’t play, isn’t a good metric for experience. A 5 star Freshman is more valuable than a Senior walk-on. Not to mention, 1.4 and 1.5 are very close anyway. And Marquette is in the top 25 in their coaches’ 1st season at MU, while GU is now #173 per Kenpom in their coaches’ 5th season. That is an enormous gap, more than 2 NCAA tournaments worth of teams. Tim having so few games under his belt as a Junior is either an indictment on his ability to get on the floor in his first 2 seasons or the staff for bringing in 3 players at the same position in the same class + Yurtseven. A more useful comparison would be GU under Ewing vs. JT3 vs. Esherick. Hint, it looks very bad for Ewing. And it gets even worse when you account for his predecessors not having a first class practice facility to use or sell, or the benefit of competing in a watered-down iteration of the Big East.

Agreed, Morgan Wootten had a terrible career after GU chose Thompson over him. There’s no way Georgetown would’ve done anything under him. And it’s not like any other small northeast Catholic schools like Villanova or St. John’s made Final Fours when Georgetown was doing it.
