What the hell is a Bellarmine Bellarmine is a small Catholic school (coincidentally, last I looked it had the exact same percentage of Catholic undergrads as GU) in Louisville whose sports teams are nicknamed the Knights. Like GU, the campus is an enclave in a very nice neighborhood somewhat at a remove from downtown. Won the D2 national championship in hoops a few years back. The Hoyas played them at our place in lacrosse the first year Bellarmine moved all its teams to D1 and we pummeled them. But I know your overall “question” is a very apt one, hanging out in the ratings with a team in Louisville that is NOT Louisville and which half the people in that city probably have never heard of is not where we should be — EVER.. Bellarmine playing for the Atlantic Sun conference title/automatic bid today on ESPN 2/5:30 against Jacksonville from Freedom Hall Louisville. I think would be their first appearance in the tournament since moving to D1. . While Hoyas are now well ahead in KenPom (182 to 203), due to the strength of who Hoyas have lost to, I think that small Catholic university has had a better last several weeks… Let’s go, Knights!

So Bellarmine is actually not eligible for the tourney....so they're basically playing to be spoiler because if they win the tourney then the auto bid goes to Jacksonville St who was the number 1 seed. Pretty wild stuff

Bellarmine is also a HS in San Jose, where at least one of our posters went to HS (and one of our All-American hammer throws champ taught).

Didn’t know that but no reason to doubt you! Fun fact (really): in 1981 Syracuse quite dramatically won the BET in the Carrier Dome in an OT thriller (over Villanova or BC as I recall) and because conference was only in its second year the BE and thus SU didn’t get an automatic bid. The next day we got an at-large and SUcks did not. Haha! The wailing from Upstate was GREAT…

Just a sad state of affairs. Everyone knew we would be bad I don’t know anyone that predicted this bad. The casual Hoya fans I know (which probably represent the general sentiment) just don’t care anymore. Couldn’t be bothered and move on in life. Georgetown as a university and Georgetown basketball as a sport become less relevant.
The PE contract extension is not sitting well with those same people and the few that regularly donate are not happy. Granted I had to tell them about it because at this point they don’t care.
All this is a long way to say the people that post here have to carry the torch to reach out to others and make apathy something else. Volume is more important than quality at this point. Enough is enough and accountability is due. Tell your friends instead of ignoring that call from a 202 area code answer it and say I’m not donating because the fiscal incompetency of Georgetown about Georgetown’s extension of PE.
And they can still donate if they choose by June once there is change. This is insane…the literal definition…if Ewing is coaching next year.

This is a good post that highlights the problem and how rough the program is in right now. There is not a long list of people sitting on the sidelines ready to get behind the program if they start getting good again. They don't care and it's going to take a long time of winning just to grab their interest. They've moved on. In sports or in anything in life, perception follows reality. If a team sucks for years, they could have two good seasons and people still think they suck. It takes the public a long time to realize they don't suck. The flip side is true. A good program could crap the bed for a few years and people still think they're great. Georgetown is a long way from getting people just to care anymore.

All the people who checked out in 2003 and 2004 were checking back in by late 2005 / early 2006. It does not take a decade to regrab people's interest in something they loved, but it does take a change.

But when you look at the crowds that Georgetown is drawing right now, it was never this bad (not even under Esh). It might take quite a bit longer than it did. Especially since that even if there were a change, the next HC would have a far worse program next year than JTIII had in his first year.

I totally agree with the sentiment and the pick up the phone/verbal message but would modify the action part only by noting that even WITHOUT a change by June — at which time it is likely too late to save 2022-23 anyway — one could (and I think still should) give specifically directed amounts to sports or academic endeavors that deserve it via who they help and how they are managed. I certainly realize the effect may be to free up money to go places those $$ will be used poorly but many of us stopped giving to hoops a while ago and targeted donations to places and students/coaches/programs we know can really use the money, and use it well, is still worth doing. But that is probably just belaboring the obvious and for sure doesn’t need to be said when the donor folks phone!

Maybe I missed it talked about on here earlier in the season - but I didn't realize that one of our current players was also on a winless conference team his Junior season. That speaks volumes imo.

It was so brutal to watch on person. Frankly Pat didn't miss an absurd amount of shots tonight and our D didn't lose the game (because the Hall couldn't shoot either). But watching our team out of a TO throw the ball out of bounds in a winless conference season seems really hard to do. But I guess we did it.
I am definitely on the ropes.

On this date 9 years ago, we were on College Gameday crushing Cuse and winning a BE regular season title. Today, we're trying to explain why 0-20 is OK to the rest of the CBB world. Just really hard to fathom.
