Side effect of the new season ticket policy for these early OOC games, it's now impossible to get a cheap single game ticket to these games. I have a happy hour in Chinatown today, and I'd love to stay late and do the American game, but tickets are $30 with fees on both Ticketmaster, with Stubhub no different with almost zero supply. Or am I just missing something?

Nothing is a must win, but if we lose to American, it basically confirms we are in for a long season. One can excuse the Dartmouth loss as nerves, bad luck, playing in Capital One the first time, but that doesn't work as much if you lose to another pretty weak team. For what it's worth, I do NOT think we are as bad as we looked against Dartmouth, and think we will play better than that tomorrow. That doesn't mean we willl win, but I do think we will play better. Duke lost early in the 2019-2020 season to Stephen F. Austen (ranked 264), and they ended up finishing the year ranked 2 on KenPom. So yeah, it's a loss we can overcome, but throw in another and it begins to get incredibly hard. This is why turning things around quickly is crucial. The Thompson/Ewing haters are already relishing a loss and have written out their post game posts. If we win they will simply tuck it into their drawer until the next loss. This is entirely not responsive to my post. The instinct to call anything remotely negative about our program “hate” is lazy, silly, and unfounded in fact. If you think there’s a positive way to spin a potential loss to American as not a bad result, and instead is merely Ewing/Thompson hate, I think we are living on different planets.

Or am I just missing something? Yeah, kind of tough. You have the free DC resident thing. I am a season ticketholder and would give you mine but there is no way to transfer them. In the past, an 8:30pm game I would have sold or given to someone and can't do it. Maybe the new strategy works, maybe it doesn't, but I support the effort by ticketing to try something new. This will be the first real test of this strategy. I kind of feel like they also might want to consider loading up section 121 (behind the opponents bench) with students and move those 121 ticketholders elsewhere. Probably a better view point and more disruptive to the opposition.

He uses his other ticket to get in and then just shows your seat location to the usher. Nobody else will be sitting in your seat since it's yours.

GAMEDAY!!
Not sure about the rest of you, but it's good to have games again. Every game is a new game and the deeper we get into the season, the more this team will improve. Mistakes will be made but we know they will play hard from the tip and give it their all. Fortunately (unfortunately?) we do have areas of improvement. Shooting will definitely improve as we get more time together since the guys will get more comfortable with their teammates movement, ending in higher quality shots. Overall offense will improve as Pat tinkers with lineups and the guys get used to their rotations. A lot of the issues first game were due to guys rushing and forcing things, I'm sure even Dante's shot will look better as he gets back into the flow of the season. We have a team that is strong mentally (as seen by a 16 point comeback out of half) and can run with any team in the nation. At the same time, we won't win many if the shots don't fall (like the first half Sat). I have a feeling we'll see more shots go through the hoop tonight which will help this look like a whole different team. Hope the guys don't underestimate American, any inter-DC match-up should be taken seriously. Come out strong and don't let off.
GO HOYAS!

Also if we are being a little candid, the Google doc just asks you for a zip code to say you are a DC resident for a free ticket… if you catch my drift

Four years in, this is now Ewing's team. Looking forward to brighter days ahead. However, in the current college basketball environment, GU will never be an elite program. It depends on what you mean. Will Georgetown ever be a "blueblood" again contending for the championship every year over a decade? Probably not, but we can certainly do better than finishing in the bottom half of the conference. The BET was a good start, but the Dartmouth loss was a big step back. The way to turn it around is to beat American, convincingly. Until 6-7 years ago I agreed that our Bball program was doomed. But then along came Nova. Other than an on campus arena I see no difference in the schools as far as bball potential goes. Especially since they built their program around DMV kids. I see no reason why we can't do what Nova does. Okay maybe not win 2 national championships in 3 years but definitely make it to the top of the BE. But doing so may require a big break from the past. No more JT associated coaches. Find a young coach with a great record in a D2 or lower D1 school. Providence and Pitino come to mind.

Crazy that we are in this state of mind facing American after an opening loss to Dartmouth. As they say, it is what it is, so let's face the hard realities, cross our fingers and cheer loud. If you're not checking out Hilltop Hoops with Aidan Curry regularly, do that. I think he does a great job at breaking things down. Here's his take on tonights game: hilltophoops.substack.com/p/opponent-preview-american-university. Let's go Hoyas!

The issue is more that most years (even years we were a good team), you could get tickets to these early (supposed to be) cupcake games for $10 or less either in the non-lower bowl or through resellers like stubhub. But now they're only officially selling lower bowl tickets through ticketmaster (or the box office) and there is no stubhub supply with the changes in season ticketing this year. I'd love to watch this game in person, but $30 after fees is too much for me and likely for a lot of fans.

Forgive my ignorance as former District resident--but what is the ticket policy change this season? Something along the lines of contactless digital tickets only, which can only be accessed through the Ticketmaster app (thus cutting off the possibility of secondary re-sellers like Stubhub)? Are there any secondary markets available to those who want to buy/sell?

I think he's referring to the free tickets offered to season ticket holders for some games, plus the opportunity to "upgrade" to lower bowl seats?

Are there any secondary markets available to those who want to buy/sell? I believe there were a bunch of lawsuits against Ticketmaster (that they lost) for trying to stop the secondary resale market. They must be using COVID to continue their monopolistic ways.
