Juwan has been flirting with the NBA and there is mutual interest. I know these things usually end with going to the dad, and it's just as likely here, but it makes sense to be Jett's #2.

I think it's exactly this. He needs to have a comfortable backup in mind if his dad either leaves for the NBA, or for some reason he really is opposed to playing for him. I wouldn't get too caught up in wasting lots of resources or official visits on this one...

Michigan is dang near a blue blood. Milwaukee… not so much. It’s one thing to play for your dad at a low-major versus one of the most attractive sports schools in the country. True, but family is family imo. History tells us more often than not these kids end up playing for their family members. Especially when you’re talking about a kid like Baldwin who’s only going to be in college for a year. Each kid is different, and parents know if it is a good idea or not. I recall Coach Thompson discussing his decision to let Ronny play for him. It is not always so cut and dry. It could be a good fit for one son to play for the father, and not a good fit for another son. Time will tell.

My Jett take is this. We need a wing and if he doesn't go to Michigan I like to think we're the next best option. I think Ewing is the only other coach he'd be willing to play for. So I'm all in on Jett. I'd like to think the Howard family has respect for Coach Ewing to not waste his time visiting if he wasn't serious. If the staff lands Jett...it'd be a remarkable feat. Go Hoyas!

It always comes back to the kid and what he wants to do.

Comparing apples to oranges. UW Milwaukee and Michigan don’t compare. Plus Baldwin and Howard don’t compare either. Baldwin is one and done, Howard probably won’t even start his freshman yr. I understand what you guys are saying but there's a pretty solid list of HM prospects that spurned HM schools to play for relatives who coached at LM and MM schools. Ray McCallum (Detroit Mercy), RJ Hunter (Georgia St), Trey Ziegler (Central Michigan), and even Doug McDermott fits the bill since Creighton was in the Missouri Valley when he committed there. Imo the family ties usually Trump the status of the school or program. That's why you see teams hiring family members to staff to land kids all the time and then letting them go as soon as the kid moves on. Why did you capitalize trump?

Can’t immediately think of a bigger “shock the world” decision if he picks us.

Whether we get Jett or not, I just like the idea of this helping move towards a Michigan home-and-home series. Our non-conference schedule is losing juice with the Conference “battles” drying up and that kind of home-and-home would be perfect. Perhaps this is Ewing playing chess and not checkers.

“I am recruiting Jett Howard to come but other then that I feel like we have everything we need that is there already and that is coming, “he said.

I don't know what college kid wants their parents to be around every day to see what they are doing at college. I know these are BMOC athletes with their own weight of responsibilities and coaches checking on them, etc. -- but aren't they generally "enjoying the college life" even more than the average kid? At least they sure seemed to be when I was there.
Maybe if it's only going to be 6 months before the pros ala Evan Mobley or Pat Baldwin, that sounds awesome to get 6 more months with your dad. But gaining your independence as an adult can be enough to figure out for any kid, let alone a BMOC athlete with a lot on their shoulders, and having your parent around for all that may not be what you want. I wonder how many actually do sign up for that -- I wouldn't be surprised if we can identify so many of the ones that do because they actually are less common than those that choose to go elsewhere. Have no idea what type of kid Jett is, so maybe none of that interests him and/or fazes him. Maybe he just wants to play ball and find the best place to grow as a player. I just am not surprised when a kid decides they want to get away for college.
And we don't know if Juwan Howard wants his kid to get away and experience that and grow up on his own like he had to -- Juwan has as much understanding of this path as anyone and may have a different perspective than some coach who's job is implicitly tied to having his kid there (not to cast aspersions, but it's often true). Maybe Juwan Howard wants his kid at UM badly, but Jett is checking it out to make sure it's what he wants. Maybe it's a back-up situation like mentioned above. Any of those could be right.
Really, we just don't know. But if the coaches got enough indication from the Howards that Jett would be interested in something other than UM, then I don't see why you don't do the recruitment right. That sort of thing pays off when you do it routinely.

That sort of thing pays off when you do it routinely. I have no doubt that it's still an enjoyable college experience - but I do think from talking to current D1 players that it can feel very much like a full time job at times. 5/6 am wake up call to get in workouts. Then class. Then practice. Then study hall/tutor. Rinse and repeat on a daily basis. It's a far different experience then your average college student.

Remember this is Uncle Pat! You don't call him Uncle Pat unless he's coming lol. We all think he's going to Michigan. But maybe he was to carve out his niche n the hoyas would be the perfect landing place imo. He waited late to visit...perhaps he wanted to see if we'd land a sf...ill remain hopeful until the decision is made. Perhaps we have a real chance this time.

Either way if there isn’t word leaking of Gtown a few days before it ain’t happening. His Dad is going to know the decision and they won’t want it look like he is spurning Dad. So in the slim slim chance he wants to come word will spread. If nothing changes by 10/13 it’s UMich as expected.

And they got Gregg Glenn...his teammate. I just think Jett wants to forge his own path. He'll be valued alot more with us. And he can create his own legacy at GTown
