I am posting facts/opinions on a message board. I want the Hoyas to be a great basketball program and think that we have the potential to be one based on the conference we play in and resources devoted to the program. Just because my opinion may differ from some doesn't mean it's not valid. Why would anyone want to only have 1 set of opinions on a message board? It is okay to have your opinion. We are not concerned with your opinion. We have a problem where you constantly criticize the guys and the coach. We heard you say the same things a thousand times. After awhile it gets to be, for us, that you're trolling. Is it necessary to come on and attack Dante, in your last post, like you did? A lot of us on this board thinks it is uncalled for. Well said! Saying the same thing over and over and piling on isn’t sharing an opinion, it’s harassment and abusive. Like I’ve said multiple times on this board, these are real people you’re criticizing. Just because they’re famous doesn’t mean we should treat them less than human. Would [that troll] levy these I’ll informed opinions to Ewing or Dante’s face? No, because you would just get laughed at and your ego wouldn’t be able to cope. An anonymous message board profile isn’t a license to be nasty and cowardly online (aka behind people’s backs).

If you want to have a valid conversation, how do you justify saying that Pat shouldn't recruit 5 stars in one thread but you want the Hoyas to be a great program in the other. We won't be great unless Pat goes for some 5 stars that show interest (he doesn't keep going after guys that have made it clear they're not going to GU). Reading through the lines, you clearly believe that Pat is the issue, not going for 5 stars. Unfortunately, you're not going to get much good faith conversation when you come into it with the bias that we should fire a head coach (and legend) just because he's only been slightly above average. Pat is trying to improve, maybe you should give him a chance. As far as what started this off, you say Harris isn't what he showed in 4 games but most believe that he was already trending that direction and hopefully that performance gave him the confidence to continue to break that ceiling. Opportunity pushed Dante into starting and he did the most with it, he will continue to have the opportunity and I believe he will continue to do the best with it he can. Agreed, but again will quibble with the characterization that opportunity fell in Dante’s lap because it’s an important point. Dante TOOK than job from Jalen. He EARNED IT. Jalen literally left to save face, period. A 5th year player hoping to land an overseas contract would’ve cratederes his chances at that had he stayed on the roster and showed the world that he was benched for an unheralded freshman. It was a money move, and a smart one at that considering that even the vast majority of our fan base missed that. From game 2/3 it was clear Dante was the better fit for this team. His inconsistency throughout the season was mostly due to catching up on conditioning, but even so it was just the regular ins and outs of a freshman season playing the most important role on the team (also he played the toughest PG SOS in the BE). I’ll also add, I believe our defensive improvement in year 4 under Ewing was mostly due to the head of the snake finally being able to set the tone on each possession.

I never said we shouldn't recruit 5 stars. I absolutely do think Georgetown can and should effectively recruit 5 stars. We've recruited 5 stars effectively for 35+ years prior to Ewing taking the head coaching position. Ewing has gotten one 5 star in 5 recruiting cycles. That is woefully underachieving compared to his predecessors. It's when people try to make excuses for Ewing's recruiting, saying that he shouldn't be expected to recruit 5 stars effectively, that I respond with - then why is he recruiting 5 stars? Last paragraph re: Harris is fair. There's no doubt he had a great run in NYC. I subscribe to the small sample size theory that what he did in NYC is not more representative than what he's done the entire rest of his career. That said, it will be great for the program if he builds on the NYC results and provides similar play the next three seasons. I'm guessing he won't, but I also like that we have Beard this year and Anglin next year to move to if/when Harris plays like he has his entire career prior to NYC in March 2021.

Also, even for arguments sake if we take out the BET Dante is still one of the best PGs in the BE and most of us Hoya fans didn’t need to see a tourney run to understand that. Also, you can’t claim small sample size and then try to describe his freshman year in terms of “his whole career!”. lol it just started. If you’re thinking about high school, a) you’re incorrect because he excelled in high school. He wasn’t ranked higher because he didn’t actually get fully evaluated and b) nothing that you did in high school matter beyond high school. Sports or not. Maybe the problem is you haven’t yet let go of your high school glory?

Saying the same thing over and over and piling on isn’t sharing an opinion, it’s harassment and abusive. Like I’ve said multiple times on this board, these are real people you’re criticizing. Just because they’re famous doesn’t mean we should treat them less than human. Would [that troll] levy these I’ll informed opinions to Ewing or Dante’s face? No, because you would just get laughed at and your ego wouldn’t be able to cope. An anonymous message board profile isn’t a license to be nasty and cowardly online (aka behind people’s backs). I would happily tell Coach Ewing to his face that he's underachieved relative to his position in his first four years on the job. Do you think, when he agreed to be head coach, that he expected to barely be over .500 overall with 1 NCAA Tournament game in his first four years? I hope Ewing improves and performs to the level of his predecessors and to the level of investment that is put into the program. I've seen little to suggest he will, but hope things get better. The recruiting class of 2021 is certainly a move in a positive direction. Re: Harris, I don't know why he'd want to have a conversation with some message board poster, but if he draws inspiration from it, great! I think he's done a nice job maximizing his talent - I just don't think he's very talented relative to most of the competition he plays against. Guess what - neither did most other high major coaches, which is why they didn't offer him a scholarship. I'm not sure how that is even remotely debatable or somebody could take offense to that fact.

Well, first of all no you wouldn’t (even though you’re now trying to move the goal posts and change words to make it seem like what you have said isn’t incendiary). Pat and Dante aren’t your neighborhood snowflakes (who care more about keeping things “civil” than doing what is right and just). Who cares what I thought (and what you THINK)? That’s the point. You’re basing expectation off of emotion. And yes, the current trajectory makes sense given the position we were in when Ewing took the helm. To not understand that is to not understand how much WORK and good fortune it actually takes to right the ship, full stop. We’ve literally kept improving since day one. We lost a couple of bad apples to transfer, which was a hiccup, but we didn’t even slide back we kept moving forward and got even stronger. Again, respectfully, your expectations are just out of whack. Why do you think you’re the only one signing this tired tune? Re: Dante: it’s cool if you don’t think he’s all that talented, but it’s a weird stance when he outplayed his matchup so often right in front of your eyes, including some of the best PGs in the conference. Maybe you THINK he didn’t perform well, but the GAME TAPE says differently. That’s not a matter of perspective or opinion. It’s measurable. And your logic doesn’t follow. Duncan Robinson literally didn’t get an offer from a D1 coach and is making beaucoup bucks now. Nobody recruited Ja Morant. Etc etc I could go on for days, all that shows is that rankings are trash. In addition, WHAT YOU DID IN HIGH SCHOOL LITERALLY HAS NO BEARING ON YOUR FUTURE IF YOU DONT SHOW UO FOR YOUR FUTURE. Today, every single coach in the BE would take Dante and more than half would start him. This isn’t the first time Ewing has recruited players who have outplayed their ranking. That’s actually what the best recruiters do, and is a positive thing. Though it runs counter to your unhealthy narrative so you’re literally twisting it to try and make it have the opposite effect. Oy vey. Anyway, I’m truly done with your trolling now.

Jalen Harris left the team based on family reasons, not because Dante Harris took the job from him. Jalen Harris started all 5 of the team's games in which he played. Not sure how you could say that Dante Harris TOOK the job from Jalen Harris. "Graduate student Jalen Harris will take a leave of absence from the Georgetown Hoyas, head coach Patrick Ewing told the media on Friday. Harris steps away from the program to deal with family issues...He’s started five out of the team’s six games as the team’s primary point guard. Harris missed the team’s most recent contest against St. John’s due to back spasms." wtop.com/ncaa-basketball/2020/12/georgetowns-jalen-harris-takes-a-leave-of-absence-from-hoyas/When Jalen Harris left the team, Dante was next man up and the only PG on the roster. It's very possible/likely Tyler Beard would have gotten the starting PG spot, had he not taken a post-grad year due to COVID.

In all seriousness, dont believe everything you read. Just talk to Jalen and he’ll tell you differently. In his last game he made several mistakes even freshman year of high school Dante wouldn’t even had made, including picking up his dribble twice at mid court, unforced, to travel. Not to go too much into detail he was looking for another place to transfer to, but to your point who wants a kid beat out by measly ‘ol Dante? Anywho, ✌🏽. Best of luck with life. I hope that one day you’ll feel good enough about yourself to not feel a need to go online and criticize folks you don’t actually know and can do no better than about things you don’t fully understand.

Sure, Dante Harris had to grow a ton during the season, and he of course had moments both positive and negative, but he was the better player. That said, did Jalen Harris go to play overseas? If so, I am not aware of that, and I see no evidence that he left to preserve his ability to make money overseas. This isn't just Georgetown, Jalen Harris wasn't all that good at New Mexico or Arkansas either. His career shooting percentages are pretty bad, he has a pretty long history of a high turnover rate, too. I never thought he was a great fit, but I know Ewing likely got him given the lack of experience on our roster. As far as playing on the team, even at the time Jalen Harris left, there was no sign that Ewing planned to bench him or use Dante Harris in his place. In each game he played, Harris played 26, 28, 30, 25, and 27 minutes. That's not usage of somebody that has lost his job. Of course, after Jalen left, Dante's playing time exploded out of necessity, but I have a feeling that if Jalen stuck around, he would have played a fair amount, and Dante much less (which would have been worse for the team, I think).

When evaluating Dante Harris you have to include what he does on the defensive side of the ball or it’s incomplete imo.
It’s really not a surprise that a kid that went from playing against terrible comp in Tennessee to HM ball struggled to adjust. But the skills have always been there and you saw his confidence grow over the course of the season. I think he takes a sizable step forward next year personally. Time will tell I guess.

I think he can be good enough and something that will help is just pure strength since many of his shots for 3 that missed literally just fell short but he has good technique and it is down the middle and his FTs were extremely solid so that will enhance his game a lot also just love his pure effort so we shall see

Good teams can and will figure out ways to post him up if Ewing insists on playing 100% man-to-man defense. That said, re: the second paragraph, YaBoy, you and I both know that Dante Harris played high level AAU ball for B Maze Elite. He had plenty of opportunities to play good competition and high major coaches saw his team a lot during AAU seasons - and Ewing was the only one that gave him a scholarship offer. To pretend like he's some backwoods guy that never played decent competition until he showed up at Georgetown just isn't accurate.

Agree to disagree. Just because you didn’t catch what was going on doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. That was the main aspect of our team I was focused on from the first minute of the season, Ewing has been known to suddenly bench starting PGs (see why Akinjo abruptly left, or is “TA had no evidence of superior play” to much to read between the lines), and the players and people I’ve spoken to all but confirmed that. I guess I was being too light handed in my last post but my source is literally Jalen Harris, his high school coach and one of his uncles. You keep missing the pont, there is no “if” he stayed on the roster. He didn’t because he got outcompetes. Yo your point Jalen was trash before GU. Dante has been good at GU. Why would someone with professional aspirations take a step back and sit on the bench in their final season. Do you not understand how that would hurt his chances at landing overseas? Jalen has always been about making money with the game. See how he bounced around from program to program to program to program to program between high school and college. All business decisions, Do you have a better source or would you like to keep speculating? Feel free to go rewatch the game tape. To have kept Jalen starting would’ve meant that Ewing wouldn’t have had a job at the end of the season. Anyway, I was just sharing it’s not exactly something I have to argue because, again, the game tape shows all. But beyond all that, do YOU even have a reasonable theory for why he left? Pleas, no “family reasons”…

Also, again watch the games to form your opinion! Teams tried to post him up several times and I can count on a few fingers how many times they succeeded. By the end of the season it was a poor strategy because Dante posted elite/above average defensive numbers in isolation post ups. Sorry, try again.

Patrick Ewing has been at the helm for Georgetown for 5 seasons now and has had only one winning season. During the tubulent covid season the Hoyas were up and down minus the up part. Despite staring the season 3-8 Georgetown was able string togehter some good performances towards the end of the regular season before shocking everyone and winning the Big East Tournament to secure Ewing his first tournament bid as a head coach. Unfortunately for the Hoyas the magic ended there and they were obliterated by Colorado in the first round. The unexpected Big East Tournament run would seem like a positive sign for Georgetown moving forward until you look at the returning roster. It’s no lie that Georgetown lost the best pieces to a team that was very mediocre last season...Mohammed will have to make a big impact as a freshman and be one of the first options offensively if Georgetown is gonna pose much of a threat in the conference this year. All things considered, the Hoyas will be leaning heavily on Harris, Mohammed and the transfers and could struggle to get in to the middle of the Big East table. www.bannersontheparkway.com/2021/9/7/22661131/big-east-preview-georgetown

It's like you relish in rubbing die hard Hoya fans' faces in all of the poor records, bad losses, recruiting battle misses, etc. Trust me, we know, we suffer the pain of the last decade or so alongside you. I think you would find very few people on this board who are giving the current staff any kind of glowing grades for the first 5 seasons. But just like the real world around us, everything isn't binary, but nuanced. You can't fairly sh*t on the debacle of Akinjo, Mac, LeBlanc etc. transferring without acknowledging some aspects were likely out of the staffs control. You can compare Penny's recruiting success with Ewings early struggles, but its devoid of context if you don't mention Penny by being heavily involved in AAU for years, had built in advantages. I personally come here to celebrate and sometimes commiserate with fellow Georgetown die hards. And just my opinion, but your shtick gets old very quickly when it seems to have an agenda behind it. Just my 2 cents. Apologies for sidetracking the thread.

I agree that Dante Harris is a better defensive player than offensive player. I also think he has limitations defensively solely based on size. Yet he’s the best defensive PG we’ve had since…..? T. Allen

If we assume our backcourt of Dante, Carey and Aminu are going to be what most expect (which certainly isn’t a given) to me the success of this season will hinge on how good can Tre King and Kaiden Rice be in the Big East.
Simple math says we need to replace 50-60 pts a game in the losses of Blair, Pickett, Bile, and Wahab. The assumption is Aminu and a more confident Dante should account for a portion of that, but someone is going to have provide the additional scoring. Can King and Rice do that? Is there another sleeper on the roster (Billingsley?) that can chip in the way Bile did at the end of the year?
With pretty much every team in the conference but Creighton and Marquette returning more pieces than us, my fear is that for us to even maintain the same record we need King and Rice to essentially replace Pickett and Blair’s production, and I’m just not sure we can expect that.
As much as I was critical of Wahab’s tunnel vision, he often provided easy baskets that help stem the tide when shots aren’t falling. I expect this team will be better off the dribble and getting to the rim, but the paint points and perimeter shooting likely will be weaker. One hope is that we may actually get some fast break points which were non existent last year. It’ll be interesting to see essentially a whole new style this year, but to me I think we’ll sink or swim based on how well King and Rice’s games translate in the BE.

I agree that Dante Harris is a better defensive player than offensive player. I also think he has limitations defensively solely based on size. To pretend like he's some backwoods guy that never played decent competition until he showed up at Georgetown just isn't accurate. Why do you think teams didn't employ this strategy last year? Even when he matched up with Bouk, Dan Hurley never tried to post him up. I'm pretty sure you think UConn is a good team and Hurley is a good coach. Don't you think it's kind of wild to list something as a flaw that's never shown up in an actual game?? He played great for B-Maze. He led them to a second place finish at Nationals without Jared Springer, but let's not compare AAU ball to HM basketball. It's not the same. It's an unorganized glorified pick up game. The majority of his time in HS playing organized basketball was spent facing meager competition. 4 weekends playing on UAA circuit isn't going to prepare a kid to be a starting pg in the BE imo.
