“I took my first official visit to UNC, and then my second one I went up to Georgetown. I am supposed to be going to Duke and Virginia real soon; I am not sure on the exact date yet.” Georgetown: “My favorite part about the visit was their food; the salmon was great, and they had these cinnamon rolls. But on the basketball side, the mentorship really stood out. Having a guy like Patrick Ewing coach me would be a big thing. One thing he told me that stood out is that he wants me to come in and be his Patrick Ewing. That really stuck out for me.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/five-star-gregory-jackson-recaps-recent-visitIt may just be me, but unless he is a hospitality major, when a recruit says the favorite part of their visit was the salmon and cinnamon rolls, it's time to cut bait. Sorry I am a little salty this morning Madison lost last night to N Dakota State.

I dunno, I think that he may have revealed our secret recruiting weapon. Win em over with well-cooked fish and cinnamon rolls.

Five-star forward Gregory Jackson battled double-teams all game but still managed to flash his five-star skill set that includes handling the ball and a reliable jumper in a victory over Utah’s Timpview High on Saturday. Following the game, the coveted class of 2023 star said he intends to trim his list of schools to five in “February or March.” North Carolina is seen as the front-runner in Jackson’s recruitment, but, judging by Friday’s conversation, Duke and South Carolina feel like near-locks to make his final list as well. “[South Carolina head coach Frank Martin] has been watching me my entire high school career,” Jackson said on Saturday. “He’s always been there. He’s a very tough coach and he makes sure you do the little things right. Also, South Carolina is basically home.” According to Jackson, Georgetown and Virginia are also in the thick of things and are in play to be left standing when he narrows his focus. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cassidy-s-takeaways-news-and-notes-from-the-tarkanian-classic

What he did: Jackson faced double-teams for nearly the entirety of the event but still managed to shine, showcasing the blend of size, athleticism and strength that few players in the 2023 class can match. He’s probably not as polished as current No. 1 DJ Wagner but he has the physical tools to seize the top spot down the road. The No. 10 player in his class, Jackson has long been in the discussion for the top spot here at Rivals, and his supporters are getting louder by the week. He was impressive from three-point range in a Monday afternoon victory that saw him pour in 21 points. Recruitment: North Carolina, Duke and South Carolina seem to be the major players in Jackson’s recruitment. He intends to narrow his list early next year and all three programs are good bets to make the cut. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/the-cassidy-awards-the-tarkanian-classic

Prior to their game against Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday, Davis and his staff made a stop to watch one of the top prospects in the 2023 class, forward G.G. Jackson. Per the Fayetteville Observer, the Tar Heels were in on Friday to see Jackson play in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas. A day before falling 98-69 to the Wildcats in the CBS Sports Classic, Davis and his three lead assistants ventured to a nearby private school gym and watched their top uncommitted 2023 target go to work. Ahead of his team’s games in the Tarkanian Classic, considered one of the country’s premiere holiday tournaments, Jackson picked up two more 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions to choose UNC. The timing of UNC’s trip to Las Vegas couldn’t have been more perfect in terms of lining up with Jackson also being there. keepingitheel.com/2021/12/22/unc-basketball-recruiting-tar-heels-visit-top-target/

The Ridge View High School standout discusses his plans to trim his list and which schools may make the cut below. ON NORTH CAROLINA “I feel like I have a pretty good relationship with coach [Hubert] Davis and the rest of the staff. They are telling me they want me to be that guy – the guy that comes in and gets in immediately. They are telling me that I match up well with Simeon [Wilcher]. Simeon is a good passing point guard, so I’ll be able to get the ball.” ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH WILCHER “I’ve watched him a lot and we've texted a couple times. That’s it. When he committed, I asked him what motivated him to commit to North Carolina. He told me it just felt like his home.” ON A TIMETABLE FOR A COMMITMENT “I’ll probably cut the list down pretty soon. I’ll do it in, probably, February or March. I want to get it to five or so.” ON OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE MIX North Carolina, Duke, South Carolina, Georgetown, Virginia. A few others, too. RIVALS REACTION: North Carolina feels like the favorite here, but Jackson’s long-standing relationship with Frank martin and the Gamecocks shouldn’t be dismissed. Ruling Duke out of any recruiting battle these days seems unwise, but the Blue Devils have work to do. Those three should be viewed as the major players for the time being. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/gg-jackson-to-trim-list-in-the-coming-months

Is this post in the wrong recruiting thread? Neither of these players are Jackson, right? Unless some nicknames or twitter handles are throwing me off… Or is there a connection between these players and Jackson? Genuine confusion / trying to point out what could be a mistake - not trying to start anything and not criticizing!

Jackson, the five-star prospect from Columbia’s Ridge View High School, said Tuesday at the Chick-fil-A Classic that coach Frank Martin and South Carolina will be getting one of those visits in the coming months, though he hasn’t locked in a date yet. Jackson has been on USC’s campus several times, most recently for the Gamecocks’ home game against Georgetown where a “We want GG!” chant started from the USC student section. He has attended three games so far this season and also a couple of football games in the fall. USC assistants Will Bailey and Brian Steele were at Jackson’s game Tuesday night against nationally ranked Prolific Prep. Jackson scored 15 points in a 63-42 loss. Jackson had 24 points and 15 rebounds in Wednesday’s 62-52 loss to Huntington Prep (WV). Martin and Bailey also were there for Ridge View’s 9 a.m. game against Legacy Early College on Thursday. “Coach Martin told me when we had a meeting in his office, think about how you can uplift your town and the state of South Carolina if you stay at home,” Jackson said. “He told me a lot of guys decide to leave, but leaving is not for everyone. He feels like staying home is for me.” UNC, Duke, Virginia and Georgetown look to be the Gamecocks’ biggest competition for Jackson, assuming he takes the college route. The NBA G-League and Overtime Pro League also are interested in Jackson and have reached out, his father told The State Tuesday night. His father also said they haven’t ruled out reclassifying to Class of 2022. Jackson and his father said a decision might be made sometime in the spring. Duke’s coaching staff has been at multiple Ridge View games this year. Jon Scheyer, the successor to Mike Krzyzewski, was at The Bash in Columbia on Dec. 9 to watch Jackson along with assistants Nolan Smith and Amile Jefferson. “(UNC) coach Hubert Davis told me the only thing I want for Christmas is you in a North Carolina jersey,” Jackson said. “Coach Scheyer says I can be a Paolo Bonchero type of player, and they want to build a stacked team that will win a lot of games and want me to be a part of it.” www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/college/article256909067.html#storylink=cpy

GG Jackson finds more grounding in the conversation of who is No. 1 in 2023 The conversation of who is No. 1 in 2023 is going to be a consistently debated topic from now until graduation day and even then, we will still probably be having the discussions of who it could have been. A handful of guys in the junior class are in the conversation and recently GG Jackson entered himself into it after his performances at the Tarkanian Classic and he only found more footing in that conversation in Lexington. On Wednesday, Jackson took on one of the top prospects in the 2024 class - Trentyn Flowers - and the Huntington Prep program. The five-star prospect in Jackson once again did everything you could possibly ask for from scoring in a variety of ways on the block, rim-running, facing up and on the perimeter to gobbling 15-rebounds, blocking three shots and adding two steals. By the end of the game he finished with 24 of his team's 52-points on 10-21 from the field. On the recruiting front, things remain the status quo. North Carolina, Duke, South Carolina and the G League all remain heavily involved and are receiving the most buzz. He has already taken an official visit to the Tar Heels and will take an official to Duke in the month of January. A decision is expected to come sometime during the winter. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Chick-Fil-A-Classic-recap-top-performers-GG-Jackson-Milos-Uzan-Adem-Bona-MJ-Rice-David-Tubek-179374853/

Cassidy: We’ve barely started discussing the top spot in 2023 because DJ Wagner looked so dominant for so long , but I feel like that gap is narrowing. GG Jackson is making a case to push Wagner at the top of the rankings, and guys like Mackenzie Mgbako and Marquis Cook are also lying in the weeds. I feel like the discussion’s overture is just now starting, and the conversation has staying power … .especially if we start to see reclassifications down the road. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/rivals-roundtable-predictions-for-2022

I guess I am glad the Hoya staff identified him as such a high level prospect when they did but if he is the top ranked player in that class, I don't see him selecting Georgetown or probably any other college program.

Current rank: No. 10 in 2023 How high he could climb: DJ Wagner's stranglehold on the top spot in 2023 has loosened a bit, and Jackson is the main reason why. The 6-foot-9 forward’s ascent began during the July live period and has continued through the high school season thus far. A strong and impressive athlete that can handle the ball and score at all three levels, Jackson has few holes in his game, as he’s a ferocious rebounder in addition to being one of the country’s premier scores. His recent performances at the Tarkanian Classic and the Chick-Fil-A Classic have made him a surefire bet to move up significantly in February. Recruitment: Jackson has offers from all over the country but seems focused on North Carolina and South Carolina. Duke is also in the mix and shouldn't be counted out. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/i-ve-got-five-on-it-five-prospects-that-should-rise-in-the-rankings

Ridge View five-star junior prospect GG Jackson turned in another solid performance with a 20-point, 19-rebound showing in the 53-45 win over AC Flora in the marquee matchup of the event. This will be a big week for Jackson, who takes an official visit to Duke over the weekend for the Blue Devils’ game against Syracuse. This will be Jackson’s third official visit. He also has visited North Carolina and Georgetown. “I definitely want to get in the locker room before the game and see what motivates them and how they get ready to be in the spotlight every night,” Jackson said. Jackson said his last official visit will be with hometown South Carolina and another might be to either Auburn or possibly Virginia Tech. www.thestate.com/sports/high-school/article257423157.html#storylink=cpy
