They fired Kirby. This isn't complicated.

They fired Kirby. This isn't complicated. Wasn’t Pat involved too?

They fired Kirby. This isn't complicated. Wasn’t Pat involved too? Probably and, on a very related note, the player is not coming here.

They fired Kirby. This isn't complicated. Wasn’t Pat involved too? Yeah for sure but these guys usually really connect with the assistant. All things being equal, it was always going to be hard to make up ground once the staff shakeup happened. Just yesterday Don Carey was on a podcast talking about his relationship with Crouch that led him to Georgetown. The HC has to pick and choose which kids he's closest to and it seems like Gardner wasn't that guy. That's OK.

They fired Kirby. This isn't complicated. It really is as simple as that. And I don't think Gardner was any kind of game changer. Would've been a really nice recruit with his motor and athleticism (to go with his size), but he's definitely not a stretch shooter by any means. And there's other guys out there. This felt like a recruit we had to get early on based on his love for Georgetown and his mother loving Georgetown, but everything changed when Kirby was turfed. That should've been obvious to anyone who follows Georgetown Hoops recruiting. Gardner spoke of trust and his relationship with St. John's --- the family bond. That makes it even more painfully obvious that firing Kirby was going to be way too much to overcome.

Nickelberry was the lead assistant for Gardner at LSU which he was heavily considering. They lost to SJU, plain and simple. Kirby getting fired may have been a part of it, but so was 0-20.

"St. John’s lone commit in its 2023 class, four-star Brandon Gardner will not sign during the early signing period which begins on November 9th and runs through the 16th. The 6-foot-8 power forward out of Middle Village (N.Y.) Christ The King will have the opportunity to sign during the late period in May of 2023. Despite deciding against signing in the early period, Gardner says he’s still “fully committed” to St. John’s. He committed to the Red Storm in June, over offers from Auburn, LSU, Georgetown, and others." www.on3.com/news/st-johns-commit-brandon-gardner-to-not-sign-early/
