All I ask for is a legit chance. Looks like we have that here.

His first quote there is:
I took visits to Georgetown and Maryland, but they don't really talk to me much anymore.
That's pretty much the opposite of what he says in the individual blurb. Seems odd.
Either way... "I love it there" is as much a "they're my pick right now" as anything else you could ask for in this kind of article.

You could potentially read the quote so that it reads Maryland doesn’t really talk to him anymore. We’ve been down to see him in SC twice now so I’m not sure how he could say we don’t talk to him. I think it’s slightly misquoted and meant about Maryland.

Wow. Love the swagger of his back-stepping while simultaneously getting himself in perfect position for the block...he knew that facial was happening about 5 seconds before either of those offensive players.

Brandon Gardner’s favorite percentage is 110. Every time he steps on the court for Raleigh’s Word of God Christian Academy, that’s what the junior basketball recruit promises his coaches and teammates: maximum motor and effort regardless of circumstances. Every opponent at every venue gets the full Gardner experience, and then some. “I know somebody’s going to go at me every game and bring their all, so that means I’ve got to bring 110%,” Gardner told the USA TODAY Network on Tuesday at the 2021 John Wall Holiday Invitational. That extra effort has made him one of the country’s top 2023 basketball prospects, a bouncy 6-foot-7 power forward with a blossoming post game who’s now playing right in the backyard of UNC and Duke. Gardner, who grew up in Georgia and played his sophomore season at South Carolina’s Gray Collegiate Academy, is the No. 7 power forward and No. 44 overall junior in the nation, per 247Sports composite rankings – and his August transfer to Word of God has put him squarely in the Hoop State’s spotlight. “More schools are going to keep coming (with scholarship offers)," Word of God head coach Byron Williams said Tuesday. “Just going to keep coming. I actually think he’s going to get an inch bigger, and he’s going to get bigger and stronger, too. But of course eventually the Carolina schools will come.” Florida, Georgia, Georgetown, Kansas, N.C. State and Ole Miss are among the Power Five schools most frequently contacting Gardner. Though coach Hubert Davis’ Tar Heels and coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils haven’t offered, Gardner said both programs have reached out to express their interest in him for their 2023 classes. In-state programs N.C. State and Wake Forest have certainly made him a priority, as coach Kevin Keatts dropped by Gardner’s opening John Wall Holiday Invitational game on Monday and coach Steve Forbes’ program hosted him for a visit in September. Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing is a big fan of his, too. www.fayobserver.com/story/sports/college/basketball/2021/12/30/basketball-recruiting-brandon-gardner-2023-word-of-god-unc-duke-nc-state/9043366002/

Disappointing not to make his top 5. It had seemed like the staff had pursued him pretty hard and was in a pretty good spot with him. Hopefully they have identified another recruit at the PF position. Finding a 6'9"-6'10" long, mobile PF can help rebound and defend (and in a perfect world knock down a few 3's) is need on the roster for the upcoming years.

That isn't Gardner's top 5, that is just someone he said he would like to play with who I don't think we even offered as we probably had no chance of getting Carlyle.

My bad, I should have read the posting more closely. I really like the Gardner kid, so hopefully the Hoyas are still in the mix for him.

Wouldn’t pay too much attention to this. Guys talk about package deals all the time, rarely ever actually happens (especially when their offer/interest lists are radically different).
