Anyone who enjoys baseball should make it a point to watch this man pitch (and hit).
His levels of excellence are approaching the other worldly.
Last night on his way to a 15 strikeout, 2 hit shutout, he was still throwing 100 mph in the 8th and 9th.

He was mowing the Nats down last night. Glad he cut his hair, too! And the fact that he came up as a shortstop in college makes me think of Cal Ripken.
I love Scherzer as well and rumors abound that if the Nats out of the race by the trade deadline, he may be traded.

Avid Met fan here...since Tom Seaver's rookie season (1967). I've never, ever seen a more dominant, better pitched game than I saw Jacob deGrom throw at the Nationals last night. And I was at Seaver's one-hitter against the San Diego Padres on July 4, 1972; the no-hitter was broken up by Leron Lee in the ninth inning.
There is no longer any contest as to deGrom's claim to being the best pitcher in MLB right now.

I know this is just East Coast bias setting in, but you might want to look at what Corbin Burnes is doing in MKE right now. He's right behind deGrom in ERA (same number of runs given up, but in 4+ fewer innings), but his WHIP is a minuscule 0.33 right now.

When that kid in Milwaukee has a full season under his belt he can be discussed.

Burnes hasn't gone more than 6.1 innings in any game yet this year. I'll start paying attention to Burnes's numbers when he goes through the entire lineup three times in a game a couple of times. He's not there yet.

I get that deGrom has history, but I bristle at the claim that “There is no longer any contest as to deGrom's claim to being the best pitcher in MLB right now,” when only one of them did something that’s never been done before in MLB history. And it ain’t deGrom. All I’m saying is cut down the hyberbole. Lotsa good pitchers out there right now.

We'll revisit this at the end of June....

Talk to me when deGrom shuts out the Pads. At the rate the Nats are this year, Pierre deGrom could’ve shut them out. Like I said - it ain’t as clear cut as you think.

Stop the presses. DeGrom gave up a run. Knowing the Mets, they'll probably lose 1-0, even with a better team than they've had in the past. DeGrom's lack of support the last few years has been ridiculous.

Red Sox make 1-0 standup to defeat deGrom and Mets, proving once again why W-L records not the measure of great pitching.
