Very nice pickup. Should fill in the Pickett/Bile role nicely. Small-ball 5 when Tim is off the floor. Welcome to the Hilltop Tre!

I think this is a better get than people realize. He plays athletically and hard; I love those attributes for a Patrick Ewing team. Love that he has a couple years left even more. This is a huge get. Can play center and power forward. Very aggressive and athletic.

Makes it almost better than picking up a freshman who can leave after a year because of the Portal Professor, being that you're the professor, I trust your words. I have a couple of questions in regards to our pickup of Tre King. Question #1: How does this affect our being able to recruit Baldwin? Are we still in the hunt or, do we not consider ourselves as part of the contending teams for the Baldwin sweepstakes now that we've gotten King?

You still pursue Baldwin and hope to get one of Baldwin/Bile as the Bile replacement. Tre King replaces Q/Pickett. His versatility will help alot and I expect him to play alot of minutes as the starting 5/back up 4.

Solid pickup. Position of need. One more piece would be nice to go with this but I guess we are capped out now?

Based on what you're saying about King replacing Q, you said that he could be the starter at the center position. If that is the case, do you expect him to start over Tim?

So many paths forward from here (new players hitting the portal daily!) but this is an outstanding fit for our team. Eager to see what happens next!

As someone said Tim will probably token start but then I expect King to shift over to center and play alot. He's about the same size as Q but more aggressive and muscular. (I think it really depends how much Tim develops over the summer along with how ready Mutombo is)

I like this pickup a lot! The thing that jumps out to me in his stats is his excellent steals numbers, which particularly for a big is a good proxy for being active on defense. He doesn’t look like an explosive leaper or shot blocker, but looks like he gets after it.
He started to extend to the three last year and shot it okay. Good enough to keep teams honest, and if he keeps improving a bit more there he’ll be a weapon.
I’d be surprised if he doesn’t start to be honest, but he will have competition.

I’d say the addition of King with the freshmen are a net neutral to the seniors and Q departing (though obviously the long term upside with the freshmen is higher). We will be stronger in the backcourt but much weaker / inexperienced in the frontcourt.
As a result, if our position in the BE is going to markedly improve we’ll need guys like Sibley and Igohefe to make big Year 2 leaps or hope the Freshmen are much more impactful than expected. Most teams in the conference treaded water too this offseason (with the exception of Creighton and St John’s as of now), so rising in the standings with basically an equivalent or slightly inferior roster will be no easy feat.
Hopefully we have a full OOC slate that will allow for some growth and development of the new pieces. I expect some early lumps but think this roster should be middle of the pack in the conference. But it’s probably two years away (when have we heard that before) from being a real contender, Top 25, tournament type team.

(I think it really depends how much Tim develops over the summer along with how ready Mutombo is) "He's about the same size as Q but more aggressive and muscular." Very interesting statement you made about him being the size of Q because I was thinking he was a small ball center and I got worried that we bought into the small ball philosophy. I was worried that we weren't going to be Big Man U anymore if we would have King starting at the center spot and thus opening the door to change our philosophy in regards to our big man. Okay, so here is an official Question #2 for you... Question #2: You know how everyone on Hoyatalk is looking for the Big Man to shoot threes and stuff like that. Do you think the staff wants him away from the basket some or, will he fall in line with our traditional center play and play bully ball?

So does this mean someone else is leaving or am I missing something? As posted by others in other threads, to the naked eye something has to give, but there are too many unknowns. We don't know what the full situation is with Carey. Maybe someone with a scholarship last season won't have a scholarship this season for xyz reasons. Maybe the coaching staff expects another departure. Who knows? It'll work itself out.

LOL. No! nephew Used in the dc area as greeting to younger males from older males. A term of endearment used to express respect and love for a younger african american male from their big homie. You got to be smarter than that nephew. Haha okay thanks for clearing that up! lol. This exchange is too funny and great. FWIW, it is not just a DC thing either.
