The thing that blew me away this tournament was the Pac-12 as they were really good and with most of their entries and they normally have had 2 okay teams and get 4 or 5 in The Dance. ACC wasn't relevant, nor was the Big East. Big East needs to turn that around.

The Baylor players look like bodybuilders compared to the Gonzaga players. They use their football weight room, it is crazy big, and very well maintained. Baylor is also an older team and a couple years makes a difference.

Baylor looked quicker and faster than Gonzaga tonight, dominated the offensive glass in the 1st half. I know UCLA has 2 players that can isolate and get their own shot, would have been interesting to see how Baylor would have defended them. Suggs, Kispert, and Nembhard normally can shoot really well and make their own shots and Ayayi is streaky, and they feed Timme inside. Baylor just shut them down and didn't give them room. Juzang in the tournament could make his own shot and make long contested shots or blow by players, but agaist Baylor he would be running into more defense. Baylor's defense communicates and adapts insanely well. UCLA's length would have been interesting against Baylor with 3 6'6" wings, Tiger, and 6'9" Riley. Riley disrupted Dickinsen out of his mind as Huter never had a balanced shot nor contact free. But Baylor had two on the boards set properly and holding their ground. Surprised at how Vidal was able to get to the offensive time after time again Definitely made a difference tonight with 8 offensive rebounds and 16 of 38 rebounds being offensive rebounds.

They got jumped in the beginning and could never recover. After Gonzaga settled down they played pretty even but they put themselves in too much of a hole. This kind of thing happens a lot in sports and especially the ncaa tournament. when a team has an emotionally draining nail biter in the tournament they come out flat in the next game and lose. Gonzaga was too tense in the first 10 minutes.

Too bad for the Zags - I had thought they were the best team - until the beat down by Baylor.

Baylor's 3 big (I count Vital as a big since he's 6-5 250 lbs), all they do is REBOUND and MOVE. They don't shoot 3s. Then their guards just shoot THREES and score. And DEFEND.

They showed Bile stealing the ball and racing down court with Carey on One Shining Moment.

Offensive boards are three things: 1) Caring about them, many teams head back down to set up on defense when the ball has left the shooters hands; 2) Being in the right spots and holding your ground, the right spot isn't directly under, but a bit out and hold your ground - UCLA's Riley did this really well on Dickinsen as well; 3) Know your own players and where and how they miss and be there and own that ground by keeping a body (lower body is better than top) on others so the other team has to get a foul to go through you. Vidal owns his ground and most often that is about 3 feet out or more. Watching some of the women's games that is one difference Stanford had in their games is their bigs sat out a bit and owned their ground. Arizona did this to UConn as well.

Kind of like how JRE was a problem for us.

Stanford had height. McDonald at 5'6" just couldn't get anything in the lane once she ran into those tall towers. Especially in the 1st half.
Arizona can defend like Baylor. They just don't shoot well, and admit that they don't shoot well. They just take pride in their defense. And they put on a clinic defensively against Stanford like Baylor did against Gonzaga. The difference is Arizona only had one scoring option in McDonald. The rest of the girls couldn't shoot. If Arizona had at least 1 additional scoring option, they win the tournament.

I was surprised to see Arizona make the run they did. Watching them play UConn they disrupted every UConn player offensively and controlled the ball away from Paige with really good coverage and controlling the passing lanes. It was really good defense. MacDonald was shooting like Curry in that game, from deep. Arizona has MacDonald and inside play offensively, or seemed to this year.

Kind of like how JRE was a problem for us. Tim could become that for Georgetown, but not having summer play and the ability to get good work in over summer and fall all the progress he made his freshman year became rusty. He can become a beast as has the height, body, and insane wingspan, but needs to learn the game and skills more. JRE has size, but is also really smart with how he rebounds. JRE also has enough handles to dribble out of bad spots and get to the weak side of the rim or outside of congestion to pass. I'm really wanting to watch UCLA v Michigan again to watch Riley on Dickinsen as he used gentle pressure of his butt below Hunter's hip so he never had balance, could never get properly set to get a rebound. It was great to watch a player do what good big coaches teach, which is to play low and control things below the other player's hip.

She looked nothing like the player of the year against Zona. She is good shooting and coming off screens. But not necessarily as good creating her own shot. You better have good handles with the basketball or Arizona will steal it. You can't guard McDonald. She'll cross you up multiple times in the same sequence. Her dribble penetration is lethal. Great on the defensive end too. She'll hound you full court. She was Pac-12 defensive player of the year.

What I liked about Tim is how later in the season he started to go into a wide stance with his legs. This is what Texas Tech teaches, and for Tim, with his long legs, when he goes into a wide stance, he takes up alot of space which makes it difficult for anyone to drive past him. (instead of standing straight up like a 7 foot street pole).

If for no other reason, I'm glad Gonzaga lost so we won't have to hear anymore that they're one of the best teams of all time. Interesting question - in terms of NBA talent, which NCAA finals had the most? 1982 had three who ended up in the HOF (Jordan, Ewing and Worthy) plus two more lottery-level picks (Floyd and Perkins).

The way they played it looked like they drank the 6 cases of champagne before the game started...
