I agree - it is a winnable game . Got to rebound and defend.

LOL what planet are you living on? We are the team that opponents chalk up as a guaranteed sweep every season. And check the resume of us against Butler for the past, oh, 20 years. Butler has been the far superior program for a very long time. Marquette and Providence have been better than us for better part of a decade. Since the formation of the new Big East, it’s us and DePaul at the bottom. Period. Any path back has to begin by realizing just where we are. Agreed on all points Guru. I said we "should", not that we are. We have more resources than all of those schools, a higher academic profile, a richer tradition, a marquee recruiting locale, etc. I have always felt we should be a guaranteed top-3 finish in the Big East every year, winning BET championships every other year, so I'm not exactly the most objective or reasonable here. But honestly, with the current Big East alignment, Villanova, UConn, probably Xavier are the only ones when we have our act together that I can realistically perceive as competitors in the Big East. We just have to get our acts together. Of course certain programs -- Marquette & Butler being prime examples -- have outperformed their previously perceived potential in the last decade plus. That has raised their current perceived potential and no one blinks to see them near the top of the conference now. But part of them performing better is the expected top programs like Georgetown underperforming, including on the recruiting trail. We gave them the room to make the move. We can crowd them out again and should as ColumbiaHeightsHoya indicates. Maybe we can start that process by beating Butler tomorrow and proving to them we are the only ones in the Big East worthy of a bulldog mascot. Always annoys me way more than it should that they have a bulldog mascot too. Jack's the best!

Frankly we should sweep Butler every season. They should be a bottom tier BE team that overachieves every five to seven years. We've got to get to the point where Butler, Marquette, Depaul, Providence are guaranteed sweeps. LOL what planet are you living on? I agree with everything Guru said but he/she left off the Johnnies. It's been us, DePaul and the Johnnies in the basement.... lol

Marquette also has one of the largest budgets for basketball in the country for the last 20 or so years. That is supposedly what was going to make it attractive for Shaka Smart but he bailed after it was a #Done Deal.

This is a game that most teams in our situation would win. One team coming off a hard fought OT win going on the road to face a team coming off a disgraceful performance. We are favorites in the game and losing this would be a bad loss based on the circumstances. I imagine we will come out inspired. With the way our home games have played out I will be allocating some of my purely entertainment dollars on us in the first half.
Winning this also goes a long way in keeping us out of the basement which would be nice.

These are two very bad teams so anything is possible but I agree, winning this one seems like it should be likely.

Winning is never guaranteed but we HAVE to win this one if we want to even pretend that we're not the worst team in the league. As long as the guys show up, play hard, and take care of the ball, we should be in a good spot at the end of 40 minutes.

Man, it’s ptsd but I really dread games that we are favored to win. Much easier to go in as 14 point underdogs.

We never seem to beat Butler at home. All our wins against them have ironically come at Hinkle (and this year should have been another). An in-form Thompson and the addition of Hodges makes this team a lot better than the one we played a month ago.
I think a line of -1.5 is probably kind to us, as Butler does have 6 conference wins to our 3 and they are playing their best ball of the season.
We have looked better (and stats say the same) offensively in the games since the pause (sans last game obviously) but the defense really hasn’t been any better if we’re being honest.
I think this is prob a game where we need Blair or Pickett to have a big individual effort to win. Gun to my head says Butler will win a close one, but with this Hoyas team usually the opposite of expectations comes through.

Hard to feel good about Hoya chances after the fiasco the other day but still hope that rest and focus will provide the difference and a victory over a very average Butler team. Of course average is still better than what the Hoyas have brought most of the year.
