. Both sacrificed much of their growth standing/sitting and watching Ewing allow the two departed guards play selfishly, passing infrequently and dominating the ball.. But, but, but he was playing The freshmen/future and developing them. Isn’t that what “They” want?

Agendas, agendas, agendas. I love it when folks tie themselves in nots trying to seem objective while make the most laughable points... Yes, it is terrible some people have an agenda of wanting to see a tournament team.

On a separate note, Georgetown had a pregame zoom event with Mike Sweetney and Kevin Braswell as the featured guests. They spoke about their current coaching gigs and shared some of their fondest Hoya hoop memories. They even showed highlights from their playing days. The best was when Mike and Kevin relaxed and were kidding each other about events that happened on the road or in practice. Kevin went back to finish his degree in 2020 and Mike plans to complete his last year in 2022.

I enjoy seeing the young guys too, but winning is way more important IMHO. The idea that stealing 6 minutes from Blair and giving them to Berger or 5-8 minutes from Pickett or Bile and giving them to Sibley will have a material impact on the team's success next year seems fanciful, to me. And doing so most likely costs us a game like this. Seems to me like some people are more concerned with trying to proactively take any pro-Ewing defenses that may arise 12 months from now off the table--in other words, trying to stamp out "this team is too young and inexperienced, Ewing needs another 1-2 seasons to be properly evaluated" takes. But while I get that those takes will be annoying, and I get that most have thrown in the towel on this season, I think if you really stopped and thought about it you might realize that getting a few extra minutes for guys at the end of our bench isn't going to significantly change our fortunes for next year. My (perhaps somewhat politically incorrect) opinion is that either we need to add some older, better players to next year's roster, or we're in for another rough ride. Doing that is going to mean that some of the current underclassmen probably won't be back. When you remember that by most people's opinions most of these guys were not high major players coming out of high school, it isn't the worst thing for the team or the player. With that in mind, the calculus for minutes distribution changes. This year's 10th-13th men are not necessarily next year's rotation players. And when it comes to acquiring talent, one of the best things we can do is win games. Long losing streaks and an awful record are not going to help us bring in the caliber of player we need to get back to competing. That's not to say that a narrow win over a bubble team like PC is going to have players lining up, but if we can avoid being laughably/embarrassingly bad I think that does make a difference. And given that we've been competitive in most of our games this season, I do think that's possible. Thank You!! Pat has showed in the past that he WILL play frosh...in any situation...if they can play. Ergo, if Berger and Holloway and Clark aren't playing at all...for a historically awful and desperate team...then they CAN'T PLAY. That's not a character attack like some on here would make it out to be. And could they improve with practice and PT? Sure, but how much? Like RB above, I'm guessing not enough to move the needle next year or beyond when there better be far better options available thanks to recruiting. Nobody is suggesting guys can't improve. Of course they can and will. But expecting 2 or 3 guys who aren't worthy of minutes on this roster to grow into impact role players on a decent major-conference team is fanciful at best. And it's also totally outlandish to expect next season's team to be better if it features Q, Ig and 11 underclassmen. That is a recipe for utter debacle. And guess what? Aminu isn't likely to stick around for multiple seasons while Pat and his 2 stars mature into a competitive squad. We live in a win-now world. That's just a reality. While we absolutely want to cultivate a culture of steady growth and seasoning (like say Villanova); you can't do that at the expense of competing now. The upshot is that if Pat wants to keep his job he must consider processing some of these guys at the end of the bench and keep pursuing impact post-grad transfers and impact new recruits and talk one or more of the duo of Blair and Bile into returning. You aren't going to take a step forward next season with 11 underclassmen. It's not going to happen. And we MUST take a step forward next season, if Pat is to succeed at Georgetown. Another year like this one isn't an option for alumni, donors or recruiting.

I am hopeful that the scholarship situation changes and more spots become available before next season. I am really excited about the incoming class and I think it will be a significant increase in the talent level on the team/program, but depending on freshman to carry the offensive load next year is not a great idea. If the expectation is that the shots that Jamorko, Blair, Carey and Bile are taking this year all go to Aminu and Riley, then I would expect we will have a wildly inconsistent season. These guys may show the potential that we are all hoping for some nights, but they will struggle on other nights, like all freshman. The freshman in this year's class have not shown that they are ready now, or will be ready next year, to be consistent scorers. If the expectation is that the Q will pick up all of that scoring next year I see that as doubtful. I really like Q and think he has improved significantly, but he is still limited offensively and relies on his teammates to get him the ball in a very limited amount of spots, which is too easy for other teams to defend. I think Dante and Tyler will improve the overall PG play next year but I don't really see either of them being consistent double figure scorers. To win consistently in the Big East you need to find a way that you can consistently score 70+ points a game (if you have a decent defensive team) and I am struggling to see where the Hoyas will get that most night next year. A good team in the Big East needs to know they have 2 or 3 guys they can count on every night to get them close to 40 points and then hope the rest of the team can chip in and get them the rest of what they need to win. Convincing Carey, or Blair, to return and possibly adding a grad transfer that can create points/offense is going to be critical to them having a better record next year. If they can't add that experience somehow the team may still likely show a lot of growth and improvement all year, but they are going to lose a lot of games because of playing so many young guys.

Another year like this one isn't an option for alumni, donors or recruiting. Well, we have 0 additional scholarships available for next season. So from your point of view, the die is cast. 1st)Next season the NCAA is granting a 1-time Covid exemption to exceed the limit of 13. So, Pat can add extra players. And before anyone pushes back, we spend millions per year on the program, taking on 1-3 extra schollies for a year isn’t preventative- even if the actual cost for adding a player was equivalent to a year of tuition (which it is NOT - the school can literally have a student body of 2/3 more kids next year. Admission and enrollment are not zero sum games.) 2nd)Even if all the above were not true, your hands still aren’t tied. In 2021, you better be prepared to process kids at the bottom of your roster (Nos. 12/13) annually if you want to stay competitive. And once again before anybody pushes back, this is the way it works these days in flagship programs, so kids are completely level-set and prepared to deal with it accordingly. And in fact, many act proactively, exiting for playing time at smaller programs to pursue their dreams rather than staying to sit. As I said, this is a flagship issue. It’s not like we’re running off kids on the track team who have a half of a schollie and are more students than student-athletes. This applies to only bball at GU and maybe men’s soccer. So, I would be shocked, absolutely gobsmacked, if we enter next season with Q and Tim as our only upperclassmen. IMO, that would be coaching malpractice.

If he’s solid in locker room, and his quotes seem to indicate he is, I think he would be a perfect complement to guys who are coming in - grinding, lunch pail PF with BE body and athleticism.

Smokey my only pushback to your post is that pre-injury Kobe was getting PT and praise from the board. So either he can play and he is still bothered by the ankle or something else happened. Also alot of kids make huge jumps between freshman and sophomore year. Usually you start seeing it by mid-February and right now I don't see a candidate but maybe Dante.

A solid grad transfer at PF or PG would be best I think to move on as a program and bridge the gap for the freshmen a bit. If Carey seemingly leaves the experience would be decent enough (Not ideal I know) with a junior in Q, a grad transfer, sophomore Harris, and a fair few sophomores that have been or will contribute like Sibley, Berger, Clark.

I truly do think Bile brings more of what team will need in terms of leadership and blue collar tools than Pickett. Plus Aminu is a 2/3 and Riley a straight three (his highlight film is all drive-and-dunk stuff), so what we need most next season is a dirty work 4. For all his ability to rebound, Morko is not a dirty work guy. Grit might be last word I’d use to describe him. I love small ball lineup options with Bile at 4. I also think if he had legit options around him, which he really doesn’t at present, Chudier wouldn’t lapse into so much hero ball.

That’s largely how we use him this year, though he would rather hang out on the perimeter and chuck threes half the time;) 6-7 has become fairly typical size for a college 4, though his 6-7, 190 lbs would be a little small historically to play 4, and is prototypical stature for a wing/swing/SF. All that stuff is largely less important than the way you play. And he can function as either a 3 with lousy handles or a solid, though shortish, 4. To put it another way, he’s a stretch 4 in a swingman’s body. I can’t see him at 5 unless he decided to put on a Creighton uni;)

To me, a small ball lineup is a forward at the 5 which Bile fits. We dont do it often but there have been a few lineups like that. Bile at the 4 sounds like a pretty typical lineup to me.
