Also Q needs to pass it out quicker from the double/triple team in order for Carey to get more touches and involved in the offense. Too much time comes off the clock when Q holds the ball against the double team. I agree, but the spacing we use often leaves Wahab double or triple teamed with nobody to pass to. See the attached photo. While he's not double teamed here, there are many similar instances where he is. The offense needs better spacing. Yes, need a shooter in the near side corner. But Qudus is somewhat of a black hole, not many passes out of the post.

I think Carey becoming a secondary scoring option will be critical towards our success going forward. I had high hopes for him and so far the returns are mixed. Has looked good in stretches but other times he’s invisible. Also really can’t seem to create his own shot off he dribble at this point. Carey has definitely become more a part of the offense. Also, Bile needs to be on the floor longer and much sooner.

We have a big two in Pickett and Blair but we need to have a big three. Carey where you at? Bile where you at? Q where you at?

Hard to get to the line when you don’t have players who can drive to the basket and force contact. Mac was good at this and took it to the rim without fear of mixing it up. By the way, this also led to injuries. For example with Blair, you are not drawing fouls if you finish your drives with floaters and not at the rim. Agree we have shooters more than “attackers” but our veteran scorers (Pickett, Blair, Carey) need to be more savvy about drawing fouls. Pickett has 58 field goal attempts and only 5 FT attempts, Blair 74 FGA and 16 FTA, and Carey 36 FGA and only 2 FTA. These are veterans that need be able to pick their spots to initiate some contact (if necessary) and get to the line. Too often we are just trying to get shots up as quickly as possible. I can't see how Picekt can draw more fouls. Trying to do that would probably lead to more turnovers or fouls on himself. He's a jump shooter and his handles aren't great driving to the basket. Only place he could pick up fouls are offensive rebounds and then quick putbacks close to the basket but he can't really control when that would happen.

We don't have a single player who can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket with any consistency, except perhaps Dante Harris. This means our bigs are going to be the only players regularly drawing fouls. This is why our foul shooting percentage has been much worse than last season. Wahab, Ighoefe, and Bile have drawn most of our fouls because they are the guys posting up or getting offensive rebounds. None of them are particularly good foul shooters.
Last year we had a bunch of guards drawing fouls by attacking the basket. Akinjo early, Mac drawing through his injury, and Allen/Mosely late in the season. Plus Yurtseven drew a lot of fouls in the post, and he was a good foul shooter for.a big man.
Our fouls shooting percentage has been about what you would expect this season, given who is able to draw fouls.

I would be surprised if he shoots over 70% again from the line this year. He does not look like that consistent a foul shooter so far this season. But hopefully he is just in a small sample size slump.

Well considering he was injured and could practice or play for a long time basically since last February, I am giving him a little leeway as being rusty. I have seen improvement in each game so that only supports that hypothesis.

On free throws, last year 21.1% of our total points came from free throws 73rd highest in country), whereas this year it is 12.4% (303rd of 357). That's a huge hit on efficiency, even leaving all else equal.
