This isnt the next game, but it is on the near horizon.
Watching WV vs. VCU. This will be a tough, tough match-up.
Q, Tim, and Malcolm had better pack a lunch. We will need every one of those 15 fouls.
Hopefully, the team has some back door plays as the passing lanes are completely over-played.
It will be interesting to see who steps up offensively. We may not break 40 points if we can’t get some offensive momentum going.
So far VCU can’t get anything other than wishful fast breaks going.

Western Kentucky up 10 on them right now... Hadn’t seen that. Doesn’t WKU have a 5* 6’’11” center, Bassey? IIRC, he is a wide body. That might be what you need to battle WVU down low.

I’m watching WV play as well. They have big strong front court. I think we can handle their backcourt. Go Hoyas!

This is going to be a much heavier lift than the first 2 games and will require far more cohesion on both ends of the floor.

Will be instructive to see how this team reacts to getting kicked in the junk by Navy.

Knowing this team, watch them win. As soon as I give up hope they have a habit of doing that (Ok St, Cuse, Butler, etc games all come to mind).

There was a time during the end of jt3’s tenure where I looked at bad losses as a step closer to a coaching change. I am not there yet....but another 30-35 more losses over the next two years will start getting me back to that point.

I’m guessing they’ll be able to figure those guys out after about 3 minutes of film.

Yes, I am living in the past. 2008Can you imagine the ending of that game being dissected today with 5-10 minutes review of countless angles and the refs likely still not getting the call right? Everyone remembers the last block, but I'm glad that highlight showed the absolute stones Sapp had. Would kill for a kid like him right now.

My dislike for what passes for WVU fans was enhanced by some of the post- game comments that I recall. And yes on Jesse. I wonder what option he was at the beginning of the play.

Not expecting a win, but definitely a few small things I would like to see trend in the right direction on Sunday:
Free throws. Last year's team shot at a 77.1% clip (16th nationally) and got to the line at an above average rate (143rd). Small sample size, but so far this year, we are shooting 58.1% (222nd) at a below average rate (211th). Aside from Blair, no one has shot more than 4 FTs this season. I don't think we can do much about getting to the line more with our current roster (aside from Wahab not playing fearful of charge calls whenever he starts a post move), but we can't be giving up 4-5 free points a game not executing fundamentals that largely should be independent of talent.
Putting Carey in a position to succeed. He's got the best stroke on the team by a lot. It's up to Jalen Harris as the PG to break down a defense and get him open looks. Carey shouldn't be putting the ball on the floor enough to be averaging 3.5 TOs a game. He needs to be taking shots any time they're available.
Minutes at the backup 3/4. We saw Clark and Bile's auditions in the first two games; think the clear edge goes to Clark, who passes the eye test for playing under control while with the most energy as well as being our most efficient rebounder and defender (86.4 Adj D Efficiency). These minutes should go to Clark not only for development, but because he's the better option.
Minutes at the backup 5. When refusing to explain why Wilson, who outperformed Tim in limited time, could find any time on the floor against Navy vs. Tim's 11 largely ineffective minutes, Ewing's reply of "that's just how I feel" won't cut it. Being raw and unpolished is great when you have the ability to refine, but at some point that just shifts to developmentally delayed and non-contributor. Having played basketball for longer shouldn't be a negative; let's see if Malcom can build off of an encouraging performance against UMBC and see if we can get his confidence level up.
If we haven't seen the wholesale defensive adjustments we've been all asking for by now, it's not happening now absent a shift in staff. So no expectations there.
Hoping that the game remains competitive for the majority, but I'm not holding my breath.

Having played basketball for longer shouldn't be a negative; let's see if Malcom can build off of an encouraging performance against UMBC and see if we can get his confidence level up. . This is that old chestnut that the guy/bench QB who isn't playing is a HOF. Never fails. There's an appeal to this because if you play little you can do nothing wrong. I remember when Mourning was on the bench, you heard the same thing about how unstoppable he is and why isn't he playing. And then when he started playing, it was a 180 and how horrible he is. You can even see it with Q. Last year, Yurt7 was horrible and Q had nothing but praise heaped on him. but with Q starting this year, he's getting battered with comments just like Yurt7 was. But this is all based on the data we have which is limited to what we see in games whereas the coaching staff have 5 times the data based on what they see in practice.

I agree. I think our backup center situation is the least of our problems. And whoever isn’t playing we are bound to overrate. Wilson looked composed in his limited minutes, but whether he or Igohefe are spelling Wahab, the difference is probably immaterial.
