I created this thread to tell my all time favorite player and the now coach for the Hoyas, Patrick Ewing, to please take the 6ers job should he is offered the position.
Coach, it is your dream to get back to the NBA as a coach. We love you here at Georgetown, your alma mater and the place where it all began for many of us. However, if you’re given the chance for an interview, please take the interview. If you’re given the offer to coach the 6er’s, please take the job with no hesitation.
When you arrived on campus, I was a fourteen year old kid who fell in love with college basketball. More importantly, I fell in love with Georgetown basketball led by Coach Thompson, yourself and Hoya Paranoia. During those four years when you were at Georgetown, I was in utopia. Those days of watching you and the rest of the guys make history was fantastic and I became a real big fan of you and Georgetown University.
When you retired from the NBA and decided to return back to your alma mater to coach the team, I was thrilled! I said to myself, Patrick is going to put Georgetown right back on the map!!! Well life is a whole lot different than when I was a kid in sports bliss. From a basketball perspective, Georgetown is still trying to dig itself out of the hole that it has put itself in over the last 20 years. It isn't the same as it was when you first step foot on the campus coach.
Before you came back to the hilltop, we were struggling with recruiting the best talented players in the country and it help set the program back. Sure the brand is still there but it isn't as strong as it once was when you were a player coach and some subsequent years after you graduated into the NBA. The program did well under a few coaches such as JT3 but something happened that cost us to fall behind in terms of getting talented players; the program has suffered and we, the fans of Georgetown basketball, have been going through it.
Yeah, you are doing a great job on the hilltop and we appreciate your efforts to revive the program. Top kids are putting us in their final top five, final top ten which is a testament to your people skills and your recruiter's pitch to the kids choosing their final destination to further their education and basketball career.
Coach, I can say that I want you to stay here at Georgetown and I could root for you to turn the program around and bring us back to national prominence. I have the utmost respect for you and I’m confident that you would bring the program back to national prominence. But, coach that would be selfish of me to want those things and you not getting what you want which is your ultimate dream of being a head coach of an NBA team, just to please a fan or fans of yours and fans of the Georgetown Hoyas.
I know I don’t have to say it because I believe you would do the right thing anyway. However, I am going to say it anyway. Coach, if you get the opportunity, please, please, please, interview for the job and do well so that you can land it. Please if you get offered the job, take it. It is your dream and we love you regardless if you’re a Hoya’s coach or 6er’s coach. Please coach, do your very best to land that job so you can coach the team and one of your young favorite players in Embiid. Good luck coach!
Your fan for life!

I'm all for Coach Ewing going back to the NBA. But IMO it won't feel right unless its the Knicks job. Would hate him see us leave Georgetown for some random NBA team, but if it was the Knicks I would understand because we all know coaching them has always been his dream, and the franchise means as much to him as we do if not more.

If Coach gets offered an NBA job that he wants, he should take it. It would hurt more if he took another college job, but an NBA job wouldn't bother me in the slightest. That being said, there's next to no chance he gets offered an NBA job in this offseason. He hasn't proved anything yet.

Is Pat actually being considered for the 76ers job, or is this just wishful thinking by some Ewing critics who would be happy if Gtown would be rid of Ewing (and Big John) without having to fire anyone?

You have had guys in the past that had no or very little coaching experience who were head coaches in the NBA so why not Patrick?

Probably neither. I read it as spitballing about when Patrick wants to pursue an NBA job, not much more than that.

Yeah! It’d be great. You might even get the chance to draft McClung with your number one pick. How awesome would that be!

I think coach Ewing's best opportunity for success as a head coach is right where he is now. It is extremely difficult to have meaningful success in the NBA, you have to have great players and decent chemistry and the 76ers job is an impossible gig for any coach with Embid as their superstar. Embid is a tremendous talent but man, I wouldn't want to coach him.... he is a coach killer.
If Ewing takes a pro job and fails, which is what most NBA coaches do, he's unlikely to get another opportunity to be a head coach anywhere.

Why would anyone want that hot mess, salary cap straddled job in Philly??? They have to trade Embiid. No way around it. If Patrick were offered that job and took it, the chances at success are minimal. Regardless, Philly is, likely, going to be looking for an established, proven NBA coach to try to avoid dumping salaries in the hopes of jamming pieces together that don't fit because, on the nearly zero percent chance that it works, it's far less painful than the alternative.

You have had guys in the past that had no or very little coaching experience who were head coaches in the NBA so why not Patrick? I think it's pretty close to undeniable that Ewing's results the last three seasons are not the type of results that typically result in elevation from college to the NBA. Despite those 15 years as an assistant, Ewing had a tough time getting an NBA job before Georgetown, and if anything, the last three years have significantly diminished those chances. With the Knicks, you always have the nostaglia/strong connection, which could make it viable under the right circumstances (plus Dolan is incompetent, so you never know what he will do), but the 76ers? It seems highly unlikely. If Ewing truly wants to coach in the NBA, his best chance would be to turn around Georgetown, win at the college level, and then move on. If Ewing cannot turn around Georgetown, he will never coach in the NBA.

If Ewing cannot turn around Georgetown, he will never coach in the NBA. I totally disagree with your assesment. College level and pro level are two different situations and you can't say because someone doesn't win the national title, they are not deserving of coaching in the NBA. Avery Johnson coached in the NBA and he was succesful at the NBA level yet his college experience weren't the best. I'm pretty sure that if I think hard enough, I can come up with many more examples to debunk your claim. So that throws that arguement out the window. Also, what do you mean when you say Ewing's results the last three seasons are not the type of results that typically result in elevation from college to the NBA? What results are you talking about? Are you talking about success, wins and losses, program direction, what?
