5 Star Makur Maker to HBCU Howard over UCLA, although Kentucky and Memphis. By time he completes a year a potential top 5 pick.
With CV-19, racial injustice movement, his statement of wanting to make a difference in life and with others.
Hey, starting to like this. It may be just a crack in the under table big program money, but will take that crack anytime.
Rumors of a possible one or two others.

Whether they beat us or not, this move by this young man is good for college basketball.

Finally a young man who realizes that he's good enough that it doesn't matter where he goes, he's going to get drafted and make a lot of money in the pros. Pro scouts aren't going to miss him at Howard, or anywhere he goes. He might as well go where he wants to.
The myth of the blue bloods exclusively preparing 5 stars for the pros deservedly takes a serious hit.

Broadus just landed a Wake Forest transar who started 21 games last year as a freshman. He’s got a crazy class coming in.

Is anyone else a little bit nervous about Howard being a serious player in DC now? If they do end up with a couple five stars every so often, that could be bad for us recruiting wise locally. Glad kids are starting to pick HBCU's though.

Howard finished 4-29 (1-15 MEAC) last year. Unless they get a UK like haul in addition to Maker, they still aren't likely to be any good.

Last year, Howard was ranked on KenPom at 350 of 353. Yes, there were only 3 schools worse than Howard. Howard was really, really, bad last year, in fact it's worst year EVER in the modern analytics era. I have no idea how Howard's roster is changing other than Maker. While Maker might be able to lift them out of very bottom of the basement, Howard is still going to be really bad, and we should easily be able to beat them with or without Maker.
The recruiting gurus can help me out, but as far as MEAC conference play, isn't Maker likely to play guys who were worse than the best of AAU/high school competition? Clearly, Maker does not care about that if he chose Howard, but I just do not see this being attractive to most recruits.

Kenny Blakeney is a good person and a great pickup by Howard.

While I was hoping this kid would pick UCLA (and I may be a minority of one here on that, but so be it), I have to admire what he is doing. I do think, though, that it will not help his development as a player, so that may well not be a good thing for him in the long run, even if it doesn't significantly affect his draft status.

They definitely are a team to watch next season, but I'm a big coach Moton (NCCU) guy so I don't think they win the conference, personally. This ranking, compared to last seasons since KenPom rankings don't become available for us for a while, would put them second in the conference, above MEAC champs North Carolina Central yet one below T2 Norfolk State.

That's a risk at almost any school. Having said that, the NBA doesn't draft on skill. They draft on potential. That certainly works in the young buck's favor in terms of limiting that particular risk.

See Program Approach Under Ewing thread. I think we will see a lot more quality black players opt for HBCU's, or schools with large and very active black student bodies. I definitely think it will hurt us in the future. Face it, under JT2 we were able to attract quality black basketball players because JT2 was in the vanguard of what today we call BLM. His presence got us talked about in the black community and his success became a matter of pride for that community. Thanks to him we got Ewing, Mourning, Iverson and probably many more and created a black power image that lasted for years. However, I think those days are over and I think our disastrous last season was an indication.
