It seems likely that at least one of Malcolm and Tim is going to get minutes this season, and that the staff needs to be looking at ways to have multiple bigs on court at the same time, given our limited roster options. I'm curious to see which of the two (or both) hits the court against UMBC and our next two opponents. I would have guessed Malcolm as the more likely redshirt, at the beginning of the season. But given his speed, I'm wondering if they'd be looking at him as an emergency 4 now that they need someone to guard Pickett in practice! What makes anyone think we will see Malcom or Tim? Patrick showed us against Cuse: he will rather play a walk-on (I love George btw) over them. We are more likely to go 4 guards or play Yurt and Wahab together. Only way we are seeing them at this point is if one of our 5s get injured. I think the redshirt year will do both good for their development and Coach seems to think so as well. Personally, I would love to see both but there are reasons we are not and it begins in practice. If we do see one, I agree it's more likely to be Malcolm due to his defensive abilities and ability to be on the court with Yurt or Wahab. Tim would be a better true 5 but there must be something missing from his game currently. Again though, going 7 deep is not that rare. I think Pat likes what he sees from his top 7 and that is what we will get barring injuries or foul trouble.

Outside of discussing the four that have left the program, we haven't been mentioned on SportsCenter. That changes tonight. We will have a top play of many this season.

Darnell Rogers hasn't played the last 4 games for UMBC. But I can't find anything on google about it to know when he's expected back except this excerpt from an ESPN+ article: "UMBC sits at 6-6 and has greatly missed its leading scorer, 5-foot-2 point guard Darnell Rogers, who is injured."
They played on the 15th and he did not play. They're 1-3 without him.

GAMEDAY!!!
While this could be thought of as a trap game, I think the guys will come out ready. The score may be closer then we would like due to Pat tinkering with line-ups, which I am sure will cause much angst and a resurgence of posters thinking Patrick has no idea what he is doing. These are the types of games where the goal is to work on weaknesses, not blow the other team out. That said, now that we have such a limited line-up, there is only so much work to do. I expect we see Greg M a good amount and a variety of other unique line-ups but they still need to all play hard. UMBC knows they can beat a better program so we can't take anything for granted.
Come out focused and ready to play as a team, show effort even against a "lesser" opponent, move the ball, and REBOUND!
Go Hoyas!

For what it's worth Rogers is not listed in the expected starting 5 for UMBC on their game notes.

I would like to see a defensive clinic tonight. The offense has been great but let's shut a team down.

The only way we see Tim or Malcolm (IMO of course) is if we have an even greater emergency - injuries to our bigs, or a critical game where we have multiple players foul out. Otherwise we don't waste a full season of eligibility on a few minutes of play for someone who is still a project.

I feel like we have to lead the country the last couple years in playing teams without their best players. We have been very lucky in that regard. I suspect this will be a feed Yurt and Q game more than the last couple as they have very little size down low. If there is a game to regress from 3 it shouldn't hurt us too bad. Or maybe we just keep shooting 46% on our way to a national title!

UMBC 60 Georgian Court 48
Who? I assumed that this was some sort of English traveling team, but no. Whatever the school is, it's in Jersey, which is a long way from England. What's interesting is that they've stayed off of our schedule over the years.

Founded in 1908 by the Sisters of Mercy, the university has more than 1,500 undergraduates and nearly 600 graduate students. In 2004, the institution was recognized with university status by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education." They are a Division II school.

Georgian Court University is named for the architectural style of the former Jay Gould estate, at which it is located; Gould was a New York railroad magnate and financial speculator, and was considered one of the infamous 19th century robber barons. Lakewood was a popular wintertime resort beginning in the late 1800s, and a separate estate once owned by John Rockefeller is now a county park (known to the locals as "Rocky's"). GCU only recently became a co-educational school at the undergraduate level, and this is only the second season that they are fielding a men's basketball team.
In other words, had GCU been playing basketball in the late 1970s, we would have seen them at McDonough along with the likes of St. Leo and Stonehill.

Seems like it dropped to -15 on some betting sites. It was as high as -17.5 when the line opened. And this is after we covered against Cuse and upset SMU and OK St. Still getting no respect smh
