So it seems that every game the Hoyas play, shade will be thrown Akinjo's way and although I don't disagree I feel somewhat bad for the young man. I hope he's able to learn from this experience and develop a style that's more to the modern game, pass first and get yours when available and listen to those that have come before you. Let us move on. It is over. But remember it was/is Akinjo's choice.

I pray this is a cramp with Pickett I do too. I didn't like that look! My initial thought when Pickett landed, and on his reaction, was that it reminded me on KD’s achilles injury in the NBA finals. But based on the way he was icing it, I’m relieved.

Pickett was playing well and with confidence prior to the injury. Hope he heals up quickly! Omer was basically unstoppable unless they double or tripled him. Lucky to have him and Allen on this team. Blair looked multidimensional tonight with the ability to pass and score in different ways. Didn't need Mac to go off tonight and I think Coach did the right thing by resting him and Yurt7 for the last 7 minutes or so. We will need those minutes later in the season. Great win!

Complete effort and a show of progress tonight from the team. As others have already said, we easily put away a team we were supposed to handle at home, didn't let up at the end of the game, and got some precious development time for our bench.
The unselfishness has really started to permeate the team and you can see it extending beyond Allen now. Everyone is looking to get others involved instead of forcing themselves. The skip passes, which were nearly non-existent at the beginning of the year, are a big help in getting out of troublesome situations and allowing us to continuing probing the D for a weak spot/situation to exploit.
Yurt was expected to dominate tonight and he did. Could have easily gone for 30+ had we let him. Understand it's a cupcake, but if he can keep up a higher rate of conversion inside of 7-8 feet, it's really going to take us to the next level.
I feel like in the past few games Mosely has finally hit his senior "a-ha moment" much like Henry Sims. Have seen some quotes from him in recent days about how he realizes it's his last year now and final chance to make the tourney. He's always played with effort, but now he's also been playing like a senior with a renewed sense of urgency and leadership. It's been a beautiful thing to see.
Wahab continue to impress. For how physical he is, he seems to be pretty smart about staying in control and not doing more than he can. That FT shooting too; for a big (and a frosh at that) to come in and hit at roughly an 80% clip could be a huge asset moving forward.
The new guys: thought Timmy looked mobile enough in limited time, but it's obvious he's extremely raw at this point. A project for sure, but there is potential there if it can be unlocked. Just not sure there's a role for him as the 3rd 5 at the moment. Chuma and Jaden weren't overmatched by mid-major personnel which is good. Muresan is what he is. Glad they all got time, but none are close to pushing hard for inclusion into the main rotation outside of spot minutes in extreme circumstances.
Hope Pickett's injury is minor. Would look to play it safe the next 2 games if needed.

Yep, Pat is going to have to be prudent with players and get them rests when he can. Tonight was just what the team needed. Everybody (except Jagan!) got some rest, and bench players got some time. Game was never in doubt and the coach could try some different things. Really couldn't have scripted that one much better. Hope next game is even more of the same!

Only on HoyaTalk does anyone assume Ighoefe or Wilson are going to get redshirted. Who in their right mind cares about the 2023-24 season? It’s a long season and there’s a good chance either Wilson develops in practice and earns PT or there will come a night where the team needs minutes and fouls. The RS fixation is silly given the complete lack of precedence for Gtown. Also Pickett was icing his calf after the injury. Looked like a cramp from the good seats. He bent over to pick up the ball to inbound and seized up. Needs to hydrate more. What a long time coming - beating the spread and running away with victory. Also Mac needed to let the game come to him tonight and not force it. Too much dribbling.

It wasn't much of a look, but Timmy I was active and mobile. I want to see more.

I was happy to see the bench get to play. We never know when they will be needed. I think the freshman big guys need to get used to the speed and pace of the college game. But they will be okay. We have a really interesting squad with the departure of those guys. Everyone will have to step up including the reserves. I can't get over how long limbed our young bigs are especially when looking at the smooth, coordinated moves of Yurtseven. Ighoefe is one big, strong guy!

When Ewing called for Ighoefe, like 5 guys on the bench all got super excited and were patting him on the back as he stood up to check in. Cool to see.

Back in the day, the Hoyas would demonstrate that many of the opponents were simply outclassed by being on the same court. The games were never in doubt. We have not had a game like that in far far too long...against any level of competition. It was that way again tonight.
Finally.

I haven’t done a study, but it seems like red shirts are used a lot less often than in the past across basketball.

We seem to have trouble keeping players for more than three months, so let's see someone actually stay four years in the Ewing era before we start freaking out about someone not being red shirted.

That’s four wins now. The sample size is growing. I like what I’m seeing.

UMBC was just outmatched. Credit to the Hoyas, but you have to look at their injuries. They were missing their leading scorer and two rotational players. The team played well, and there clearly seems to be some chemistry now. The guys were celebrating on the bench and happy the lesser played guys got in. I have to say that if this is the only minutes Tim I gets, it's a waste of a season if he can't get a redshirt. I hope he plays more and shows some progress throughout the season. That being said, I can't complain about tonight.

Looked like cramps, game had to stop for him to get off the court but he never fell. Was icing both calf and hip. It's gonna happen when he's the only 4. You don’t ice cramps especially the hip. He would’ve been sucking down liquids as well. I don’t know what it was as they didn’t show it but I’d be surprised if it was cramps. He likely strained something and was being overly cautious. My first quite negative thought was Achilles tear, so was very happy to see the calf being iced. Hopefully just Muscle cramps and no game time lost.
