We really struggled defensively against SMU last year. They have a real good tactical coach, a Larry Brown protege. They played 5 out a lot. their center could shoot, so he pulled Govan away from the basket by hitting 3s. Then he took Jesse off the dribble if he came out to deny the three. And the lane was wide open for the other SMU players to attack the rim, with Jesse out near the 3 point line. It was brutal, we had zero answers. We only lost by 8 because they were not all that talented, but because we could not stop them it never really felt like we are going to win the game.
From a quick look at their stats so far this season - looks like they have been good defensively, pretty average offensively. But they have a few really high efficiency players - looks like they probably don't take a lot of bad shots, which is consistent with how they played against us last season. Hard to have much sense of how good they are, gven the weak schedule they have played. But any time we face a coach who knows how to design a really good offensive scheme, I get pretty nervous.

I believe they moved on to Dallas either last night or today, though I’m not 100% sure. Cool, Thanks. Glad to see the "new" team be able to bond without any distractions etc. They were practicing in the Mavericks practice facility today (Thursday).

Unfortunately, I think they come out in the teal uniforms as they just wore navy at Oklahoma State. The Hoyas always rock in navy, just ask OSU and Texas.

I don't expect the team to play as well as they did last night in every game. We are now VERY dependent on Mac's jumper and Omer's low post game. If those are off, we're in a heap of trouble. What I would like to see is: consistent high levels of effort -- no more of this not showing up every other game; and a commitment to running the offense and defense as the coaching staff wants. That's all I can ask. Agree. I want to see a dedication to rebounding. A dedication to grabbing loose 50-50 balls. A dedication to team defense. A dedication to ball movement.

Exactly - the kinds of things that guys do when they are playing for each other and not for themselves!

That's all I can ask. Yeah, I want to see evidence that team chemistry issues caused the prior up and down play vis-a-vis opponents. What I'm looking for is that the Ok State game was truly a reset in attitude, confidence and energy. Shot-making can be an up and down thing, but you can still win on off nights if the effort and communications are solid. I also want to see Omer dominate, because I think that's something he can do just about every game. I’m hoping Ok St was more about the PG dribbling into the lane and moving the ball than more about attitude. Ball movement has been the biggest correlation with playing well under Ewing than anything else IMO. That in itself builds chemistry as everyone is touching the ball frequently

Interested to see what the opening line will be This actually really interests me too. The Hoyas are 3-0 ATS as underdogs and 0-5 ATS as favorites. That's drastic. Also, 0-5 ATS at home and 3-0 ATS neutral/on the road. So, one of these trends could break if the Hoyas are listed as favorites. But, the main thing that interests me as a Hoyas fan is the team is 2-1 straight up as underdogs and 3-2 straight up as favorites. So, the Hoyas have been better as underdogs in all aspects than as favorites. Hopefully they don't play down to opponents, especially solid teams like SMU like they did against a very talented UNCG team. This team hasn't responded well as favorites, but has responded well on the road. It's really bizarre. We are road underdogs!!! The chances we play as well as last game are pretty low. The question is can we be average and still beat a decent team.

The terrifying part is that from game to game we never know who will be in uniform come tip-off time.

Omer could be better, but Mac isn't putting up 33 on 21 shots often. However, with the Hoyas playing as road underdogs, they are on the right track. Also, one of my personal favorite things to attack are teams that look good because of bad schedules. SMU apparently has the worst schedule to date and even if they get out to an early lead, teams who haven't played talented teams don't respond well when eventually their opponent goes on a run. Much like the Cowboys in the NFL, Dallas could have another team like that.

SMU will be rolling out new uniforms Saturday, according to reports.
During football season, they sported jerseys that read "Dallas" instead of "SMU" and it brought good luck en route to the Mustangs' 10-2 season. They apparently have the same in mind tonight.
In other news, the folks over at the PonyFans message board are asking about student turnout. Turns out it's the "winter formal" weekend with the sororities. 43% of SMU undergrads are in Greek clubs.

If we can keep the crisp.passing, ball movement, and rebounding on the same level as Wednesday, I'm feeling good. Most of all, let's show up with energy and ready to work as a team!!

Pretty discouraging that the SMU fans are questioning if today’s students know Georgetown. Whether they know what we once were.

Hoya Chris and DFW attending?!?!?! That is a GREAT omen for our guys. If we have the same roster available as Wednesday, I predict a solid victory.
Hey, is everyone as excited to see this team play again as I am? Last game was so encouraging. 6 hours to tip off.
Go Hoyas!!
