Does Texas have a basketball thread? I’ve been trying to find one & see what they think about the matchup but all I see is football post. I found the same. I guess the Georgetown brand has fallen a bit to not make the radar. It is a big football weekend though vs. a pre-season basketball tourney.

There's a podcast called 'Big Game Pod' that features a preview between Georgetown and Texas, based on the team concepts offensively and defensively. It's about an hour long, and while it's not very favorable towards our team or Ewing as a coach, it's interesting to listen to some of the different approaches that each team can take.

I guess the Georgetown brand has fallen a bit to not make the radar. It is a big football weekend though vs. a pre-season basketball tourney. It's not that big a football weekend after Baylor lost but the Orangebloods are not happy about UT sitting at 6-4. They'll stumble to the Alamo Bowl but that's not what they're paying Tom Herman $27.75 million over five years to do. The Georgetown brand is down, even if the FS1 universe doesn't acknowledge it as such. What was the last non-conference win of significance for the program? But Texas basketball isn't exactly a hot topic either, and Shaka has worn out the welcome mat on the Forty Acres. He's got a $9 million buyout after 2019-20 and that's a number that UT could arrange if it came to that. But there aren't a lot of big names that are in line waiting to fix UT basketball. Hiring Kevin Willard or Josh Pastner doesn't solve the problem either. This is the "lady or the tiger" dilemma in college coaching--when to move, when to stay put. If someone had said five years ago that Shaka Smart would be an afterthought, few would have believed it.

Interesting point from the podcast...Texas aggressive defense could cause fouls that play to Georgetown strength making free throws. This probably means the most for Omer as the players with the highest fouls charged rates are all bigs - Sims/Baker/Hamm

Smart took the money which was a bad move at the time and even worse in hindsight considering what his style of play was/is...

On MM365 Podcast (41:00 mark) Andy Katz has us beating Texas and hanging with Duke. Commented on recent doubt about Georgetown and said he gets it but we looked like the tram we are expected to be in the second half of Georgia State and so he’s going with the “faith pick.”

OMG -- that 2006 game was JT3's "coming out" party. Brandon Bowman! Hoyas just ran those guys off the floor - until JJ Redick nearly brought them back. But for now? I want to see us beat TEXAS!

Absolutely beat Texas--or at least play two strong halves and then talk about whomever is next. Until I see a complete game it's hard to think past the next opponent.

I have a feeling we will play up to the moment ant the opponent. Just keep driving, drawing fouls, and wearing other teams out over 40 minutes. Our depth may not be as quality as many of us hoped but it's still there. Win the boards, don't turn the ball over, and let's see some press!

Mac gets fouled almost every time he drives, it’s just a matter of what mood the refs are in.

Posting this link about Michigan and Texas Tech defenses for a few reasons (apologies if this was posted elsewhere as it's from last season):
1. Texas hired Michigan's defensive coordinator Luke Yaklich in offseason, so this should give some insight to his preferred scheme.
2. The Texas Tech scheme is fascinating to me and goes to show how you can dictate to the offense. It's easy to say it given their success but this would be my preferred scheme in ideal world. Switch screens, ice pick n rolls, invite baseline and knowing your rotations is easier because the drive is always coming from same place
At end of video, the narrator makes the point that it's more about the players executing the schemes than the schemes themselves, but still shows different ways to approach defense.

I’m surprised by the amount of optimism going into this. I’m actually concerned this could be a painful two days, so much so I’m on the fence about going to the Garden despite having tickets and being a short train ride away (part of that has to do with possibly enduring my Duke friend’s taunts if I go with him).
It’s like we go through this cycle every 3-4 days around games. The day before a game everyone is optimistic. Then the game comes and we lay an egg and every starter must be benched and Patrick should be fired. Then 48 hours pass and suddenly we are beating Texas and Duke on consecutive nights. I have seen maybe 25 decent minutes of basketball from this team, so I find it hard to believe we are going to show well against the two ranked teams who are every bit our equal physically and athletically.
Obviously as a fan I’m rooting for the opposite and my heart will try to talk me into how we can win, but I just don’t see it. To me a game against Cal on Friday is a 50/50 proposition at best. Just surprised given last game how many more people have convinced themselves we are going to suddenly improve over night against higher competition.
