Morko is the X-factor on defense. Given our scoring options elsewhere in the starting lineup, that might be marginally more important. Haven't seen enough of Alexander's defensive game to know who's better in that regard, but we do know Pickett's length gives other teams fits. Agree that Pickett’s defense will keep him on the court (as long as he stayed committed to it) for some minutes (my initial guess is 15-20min). We can’t really tell about Alexander or Gardner’s defense from Kenner. Honestly if Pickett could rebound better and bang just a little he could be earn some minutes as a “big” as well. Agree it's hard to gauge defensive ability from Kenner but it sounds like Allen was recruited as a defensive specialist. So if we are facing a smaller team a three guard lineup with Allen might restrict Picketts minutes even more.

Here's what I'm thinking
Akinjo 32 Allen 8 McClung 30 Mosley 5 Blair 5
Pickett/Alexander 60%/40% depending on matchup and offensive firepower of the opponent. Maybe a few minutes per game for Gardner or Mosley in special situations. The starter at the 3 will be the biggest question between now and the first game.
Leblanc 30 Tim5-10. Pickett sporadic minutes at the 4, possibly more if Tim is more similar to Wilson than a LeBlanc as a freshman - however based on that picture a few weeks ago I'm thinking he will be good enough for some backup minutes.
Yurt7 - 25-30. Q 10-15

Gardner is definitely going to get more than a few minutes per game. His handle is better than Pickett's and almost comparable to Blair's, while his physical strength and intensity is among tops on the team, as an 18-year old. And his shooting is passable as a wing. He has elements of his game that remind me of Trawick, Bowen, and Freeman, especially with the ability to drive into the lane and elevate through contact. I don't think he's going to crack the starting lineup, but he appears to be someone who's going to work his way into the regular rotation pretty quickly.

The biggest question mark for me will be who is playing back-up 4 minutes. Can one of Pickett, Alexander, Gardner slide down to the 4? Whichever one can do it effectively will get minutes. TBH it may be Pickett's best chance for PT if he can focus on defending other 4s then be ready on the wings for spot 3s. Both Alexander and Gardner seem to be more comfortable at the skills a 3 should have (slashing, shooting, and rebounding outside of their zone). Does Coach try to go two bigs and slide Yurt or Q to the 4? I sure hope not outside of an experiment.

With Howard & Powell in the conference, Allen & Mosely are going to see plenty of minutes in those match-ups. That is why this roster has the chance to be special. Lots of guys with + skills that will allow coach Ewing to show his coaching skills.

You have to be able to bang at the four, not sure Pickett is up for that. Depends on matchups I guess.

Lots of guys with + skills that will allow coach Ewing to show his coaching skills. We’ll need all the new defensive help we can get and a new defensive strategy. Last year, Jagan and Co. were not that effective against those two, who went for 28+ pts in their four games (minus Howard’s injury game) vs GU. The name of the game against them is containment and Pat needs to come up with a better strategy. That SH BET loss should still hurt the team...

Guards: Akinjo and Mcclung should be getting the bulk of the minutes with Mosely and Blair getting spot time. SF: whoever is playing better of Alexander, Gardner, and Pickett. It seems that Gardner and Alexander have the upper hand now based upon Kenner performances. PF: Leblanc should get a ton of time here and will probably have one of the above SFs sub him out C: Yurt7 getting the bulk of the minutes with Wahab as backup or Josh in a small lineup
There are a lot of guys jockeying for minutes on this team, which is a good problem to have.

After watching the first Bahamas game, this is the line-up I want to see a bit
Allen Myron Galen Pickett Big (say Q)
This line up is tall, long, athletic, and good defensively. Allen showed himself to be able to create really nicely for others. Combine Pickett deep shooting with Myron’s slashing and this could be a heck of a change of pace line-up.

I dont envy Coach this season..or maybe I do - for having to allocate minutes. This team has so many potential combos.

In my opinion, the only new addition to the starting 5 will be Omer. I think Jamorko has/will raise his game enough to keep his job. A Junior, three year starter at the 3. How sweet it is. 3 sophomores who were All BE Freshmen last year A Four year college player, who was once a 5 Star recruit, replaces outgoing All BE Jesse Govan at the 5
Now add in a TON of quality backups Terrell Allen - 5th year college player who was a starting PG for 3 years Jagan Mosley, senior guard Jahvon Blair, 3rd year player, former BE All Rookie, sharpshooter who seems to have regained his deadeye shooting Galen ALexander and Myron Gardner are both ready to play - talented, athletic, confident Oh, and then we have 3 more back-up seven footers behind Yurtseven. And all three look like they will have at least solid careers at GU.
Things are looking up in Hoyaland!

Alexander's physique is well developed and he handles, is quick. He is very confident. Not sure about his jump shot. I like Jamorko, and want to see how he handles the competition from Alexander and Gardner. Watching him Saturday, he looks like he's still growing. He's slim and has not filled out yet. There will be a good place for him on this team. Wilson has lots of development to do. He's relatively fast, he's quick and can catch the ball. He's quite slender and needs to work on skills. He will be great by the time he leaves the program. I haven't seen Gardner play at Kenner, but I expect a lot of good things from him. He will contribute. I watched a couple of games on Saturday. !

I would love to be a fly on the wall in a scrimmage of 1's vs 2's.
Akinjo/Mac/Pickett/Leblanc/Yurt Allen/Blair/Gardner/Alexander/Wahab
Don't lock the 3's out of the gym though as they may not score many points but good luck getting anything uncontested at the rim!
Mosely/Robinson/Muresan/Wilson/Tim I

A thought and speculation...
While many coaches seemed to be enamored with the type of player they were, I wonder if PE isn’t tell us something. We have 4 centers on the roster and we appear to continue making offers to recruits who play center. Off the top of my head, I can’t recall a roster with 4 centers.
I think Ewing might be showing us that if is comfortable playing two centers when they are mobile and athletic. Maybe the line ups in the Bahamas were meaningless....or perhaps he was showing that this playing approach is one that he will utilize.

Of the centers on the team, the question really becomes which could play minutes at PF. A lot will also depend on who the opponent will be and whether they have a stretch 4 or more of a back to basket type of guy. At first glance, it seems that Wahab and Timothy I. both are traditional centers at this point in their development. While Yurt has an expanded skill set...I think he would struggle guarding a more mobile and athletic stretch 4. Of our 4 bigs, the guy who seems most naturally suited to play minutes at PF is Malcolm Wilson. While he may not be ready to play significant minutes this year...I could see him getting some run at the 4 in years to come.
