After an almost unhealthy obsession with our schedule, he seems to be talking up the program for us...

The subtext here is that "hey, it's a top 20 job nationally, can't they do better than Ewing?"
Don't take this as a compliment. Also, it's couched in "everyone disagrees with me that it's a top 20 job".

Yea it’s not a ringing endorsement but it I don’t think it’s a negative take either. Unlike many a tweet last year.

Reading through the comments provides some context to why people disagree on Goodman's premise: a lot of them see Georgetown as still being trapped in the amber of the 1980's. Whether we like it or not, Georgetown finds institutional comfort in selling the 1984-1996 Hoyas and all it represented instead of a more contemporary message. In 2018, Stadium ranked it the best Big East coaching job. watchstadium.com/news/big-east-basketball-coaches-rank-the-best-jobs-in-the-conference-11-02-2018/

Why do fans from other schools equate our program to the 1980’s Hoyas? Because every broadcast the producers feel the need to replay our greatest moments in the 1980’s and our legendary players/coach. We are proud of our history and every non Hoya fans knows about it but from some reason it gets replayed over and over again.
That’s why everyone thinks we are a yesteryear program.

With the exception of Texas Western (UTEP) beating Kentucky in the national championship game, what other program has simultaneously had the impact both on the court and off the court as did the Hoyas in the early 1980s. Combine some incredible basketball talent that played with an aggressive edge that was uncommon at the time, with a large, black articulate and outspoken coach who used his platform to address controversial social issues at a predominantly white Catholic university in the nation's capitol and it is easy to understand why Georgetown will continue to be identified with that period in its basketball history. Since that time the Hoyas have neither been unique on the court or a center of social activism off the court. Nor has any other school combined these elements.

It’s a crutch for broadcasters. Can’t say much about the recent status of the program so we’ll talk up what happened 30 years. Which explains why we are viewed as a has been. Goodman is right in that this HC job should be a top 20 job; it isn’t. But Pat can certainly get us back there.

About 8 or 9 years ago, I (and several others) watched Jeff Goodman pick & eat a booger at Virgil's BBQ in NYC. True story.
That is all.

It's not bizarre. It's very petty! IMO It's about access. Goodman has none and never had any going back to when Georgetown was a perennial top 10-15 program in the good JT3 years. JT3 was much more friendly with Andy Katz at ESPN. Goodman probably wanted access to info and instead was shown the door. He obviously took it personal and now he's revelling in the team not doing well the last 5 years and making it known every chance he gets. That's why I personally don't use him as a primary source of information and if I do accidentally see something noteworthy he has posted, I double and triple check out with other media heads before giving it any credence...
