OSU game was a clinic in what a pass-first PG can do to unlock a team. Maybe I am out of date with current trends in basketball, but this is the kind of basketball I enjoy watching. This is exactly what most top teams have returned. A lot of the ball dominant guards in high school have been working on changing their game to be more of a pass friendly and create really well for other type of guard. Not all of them, but hearing it from a lot of college coaches recruiting, top travel team coaches working to get their players into top school, etc.

Don't forget (I know I did) that Allen is a Dematha kid who came home to play his final year. Brings hoops IQ (and other I'm betting) and hopefully some local fandom with him. Getting him and now spotlighting him may help with local WCAC recruiting (recruiting that we all hope keeps rolling with the Williams/Gonzaga "get" but even if that goes South we still will have had a foot firmly in the door).

Took his team to a win away from the Final Four last year. We are a better run team with him at the helm.

Terrell Allen aka "The Insurance Policy" aka "Dime Dropper", aka "Pocket Full of Dimes", aka "True OGPG", aka "Have them Hands Ready" aka "He'll Find Ya" aka "The Floor General" aka "The Chef & The Server" aka "Oprah Winfrey" (you get buckets, you get buckets, everybody gets buckets), aka "Everybody Eats" aka "I Love That Dude"!
What a massive pickup. Prefect fit for this team. He makes every body on the court with him better. A true PG and extension of the coach on court.
Really looks like we were being held back by that other dude...

As much as I like what is happening with the other 4 starters, this kid has truly emerged as the leader and stabilizing force for this team. What a solid addition and how eye-opening a single addition can be.

Can we grab a grad transfer PG every season? Asking for a friend.

Would love to get a grad transfer PG every year....but not every grad transfer was 5th in the nation in assists last year.

I don’t know whether to give Pat credit for getting Allen or shake my head and wondering if he would’ve ever made the move without JA leaving. It became quite apparent after a couple game that Allen was exactly what the starting lineup needed, a willing distributor that played great D. I Dont think after watching us essentially squander away another transfer last year, Greg, that did exactly what we needed that he would’ve got his chance.

Fair question, hard to say. Patrick certainly brought Allen in for a reason, to have a quality backup, but expected James to have the lion's share of the minutes. At the same time, Ewing's obvious increasing frustration with the lack of ball movement may have been getting to the point that Terrell was going to get his chance, if for no other reason than to send Akinjo the message that he needed to buy into the plan.

Yea guess we will never know. If I had to guess it would’ve played out like the Mac/Greg situation last year for no other reason than Live by the Mackinjo, die by the Mackinjo attitude he seemed to have.

Whether by design, or through sheer accident, hopefully this can be a blueprint for recruiting great grad transfer PGs going forward, at least until we have good homegrown distributors in the pipeline

In the college game you usually think of the team taking on the coach’s personality, but it seems more like this team is taking on its point guard’s personality.
Akinjo seemed to want to challenge everyone he went against to a Mano-a-Mano duel. James returning Quincy McKnight’s floor slap may have been the highlight of last season, but at times this style also meant stubbornly driving into the trees and taking I’ll advised shots. The rest of the team seemed to follow suit—Hoyas wanted to engage in individual battles, opponents did not often reciprocate.
Terrell Allen is a totally different animal. He is pure provider, and only looks for his own shot when it’s in the game’ rhythm. He tries to make everyone else better, give Mac and Blair and etc. the chance to put up the numbers while he mixes the drink.
And it’s not just Allen dropping dimes. In each of the last 2 games, 5 players have had at least 2 assists. Everyone is following Allen’s lead.
To be clear, I liked watching Akinjo and thought he’d become a star. But he hadn’t developed the PG’s skill of making those around him better (at least not yet) and Hoyas suffered as a result.
It’s Allen’s team now—and so far that’s a very good thing.

Maybe that's what happened, Patrick's frustration had reached his max and after the UNGB game he let it be known that Allen would start and James said I'm out. Possibly.

Akinjo's uncle did include Allen in his post-Ok. State rambling
